TASK 72-32-00-030-002-A00 LPC/Intermediate Case Module - Remove The Front Fairings, No. 1 And No. 6 Strut Fairing Panels, Fan Exit Pressure Boss, And Block, Disassembly-002

General

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No.1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the No. 1 strut leading edge.

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the front fairings, the No. 1 and No. 6 strut fairing panels, the fan exit pressure boss and the block. For the other parts of the LP compressor/intermediate case module, refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-000 (DISASSEMBLY-000).

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-082 Remove the Bolts, from the Fan Case

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure that the LP compressor/intermediate case module is installed, vertically with the rear end up, on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-001 (DISASSEMBLY-001).

    3. Remove the bolts (01-540) from the threaded holes in the No. 5 and No. 7 struts, Figure.

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-083 Turn the Fan Frame and Fan Case Assembly Horizontal with the No.1 Strut Up

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Release the lock pin from the holes in the handle and the support C (part of the turnover stand).

    3. Turn the handle to set the fan frame and fan case assembly horizontal with the No. 1 strut up.

    4. NOTE

      Make sure that the hole in the support C and one of the eight holes in the handle are aligned. If necessary, turn the handle to align the two holes.

      Install the lock pin into position to lock the handle.

      5. Install the stopper base and stopper assembly (part of the turnover stand) to hold the fan case front flange.

      1. Put the stopper base and stopper assembly on to the turnover stand.

      2. Turn the adjuster (part of the turnover stand) clockwise to lift the stopper until it fully engages with the fan case front flange.

      3. Tighten the set screw (part of the turnover stand) to lock the adjuster in position.

      4. Tighten the two knobs (part of the turnover stand) to hold the fan case front flange to the stopper.

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-084 Remove the Panel Corner Fillers and the Corner Strut Fillers from the Fan Frame Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the LH and RH panel corner fillers from the No. 1 and No. 6 strut fairing panels and the fan frame assembly.

      1. Remove the bolts and washers which attach each panel corner filler to the strut fairing panel and the fan frame assembly.

      2. Remove the panel corner fillers.

      3. CAUTION

        CAREFULLY USE A SCRAPER TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SURFACES OF THE CORNER STRUT FILLERS.

        Remove sealant filled in each recess in the LH and RH corner strut fillers before the removal of the screws in the recesses.

      1. Remove the sealant around the screw in each recess with a scraper or an equivalent hand tool.

      4. Remove the LH and RH corner strut fillers from the fan frame assembly strut.

      1. Remove the nut, the washer and the screw which attach each corner strut filler to the fan frame assembly.

      2. Remove the corner strut fillers.

    4. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-213 Remove the Mount Tube Stopper from the Fan Frame Assembly (SBE 72-0150)

      SBE 72-0150: Provide a new weight reduced fan frame assembly and associated details.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the nuts and the screws which attach the stopper to the fan frame assembly.

    3. Remove the stopper.

    5. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-085-A00 Remove the No. 6 Strut Fairing Panel and the Panel Supporting Bracket from the Fan Frame and the Fan Case (Pre SBE 72-0051 and Pre SBE 72-0435)

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Remove the No. 6 strut fairing panel from the panel supporting bracket and the fan frame.

      1. Remove the nuts, bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the panel supporting bracket.

      2. Remove the bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the fan frame.

      3. Remove the strut fairing panel.

      3. Remove the panel supporting bracket from the fan case at the 6 o'clock position.

      1. Remove the bolts, washers and nuts which attach the panel supporting bracket to the fan case.

      2. Remove the panel supporting bracket.

    6. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-085-B00 Remove the No. 6 Strut Fairing Panel and the Panel Supporting Bracket from the Fan Frame and the Fan Case (Pre SBE 72-0051 and SBE 72-0435)

      SBE 72-0435: Fan case, panel and bracket scalloped for No.4 scavenge tube reroute

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Remove the No. 6 strut fairing panel from the panel supporting bracket and the fan frame.

      1. Remove nuts, bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the panel supporting bracket.

      2. Remove the bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the fan frame.

      3. Remove the strut fairing panel.

      3. Remove the panel supporting bracket from the fan case at the 6 o'clock position.

      1. Remove the bolts, washers and nuts which attach the panel supporting bracket to the fan case.

      2. Remove the panel supporting bracket.

    7. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-085-C00 Remove the No. 6 Strut Fairing Panel and the Panel Supporting Bracket from the Fan Frame and the Fan Case (SBE 72-0051 and Pre SBE 72-0435)

      SBE 72-0051: Incorporation of fuel drain tube in fan frame.

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Remove the No. 6 strut fairing panel from the panel supporting bracket and the fan frame.

      1. Remove the nuts, bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the panel supporting bracket.

      2. Cut and discard the lockwire.

      3. Remove the bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the fan frame.

      4. Remove the drain pipe which is attached to the fan case through the strut fairing panel.

      5. Remove the strut fairing panel.

      3. Remove the panel supporting bracket from the fan case at the 6 o'clock position.

      1. Remove the bolts, washers and nuts which attach the panel supporting bracket to the fan case.

      2. Remove the panel supporting bracket.

    8. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-085-D00 Remove the No.6 Strut Fairing Panel and the Panel Supporting Bracket from the Fan Frame and the Fan Case (SBE 72-0051 and SBE 72-0435)

      SBE 72-0051: Incorporation of fuel drain tube in fan frame.

      SBE 72-0435: Fan case, panel and bracket scalloped for No.4 scavenge tube reroute

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Remove the No. 6 strut fairing panel from the panel supporting bracket and the fan frame.

      1. Remove the nuts, bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the panel supporting bracket.

      2. Cut and discard the lockwire.

      3. Remove the bolts and washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the fan frame.

      4. Remove the drain pipe which is attached to the fan case through the strut fairing panel.

      5. Remove the strut fairing panel.

      3. Remove the panel supporting bracket from the fan case at the 6 o'clock position.

      1. Remove the bolts, washers and nuts which attach the panel supporting bracket to the fan case.

      2. Remove the panel supporting bracket.

    9. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-214 Remove the No. 1 Strut Fairing Panel and the Panel Supporting Bracket from the Fan Frame Assembly and the Fan Case

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the No. 1 strut fairing panel from the panel supporting bracket and the fan frame assembly.

      1. Remove the nuts, the washers and the bolts which attach the strut fairing panel to the panel supporting bracket.

      2. Remove the bolts and the washers which attach the strut fairing panel to the fan frame assembly.

      3. Remove the strut fairing panel.

      3. Remove the panel supporting bracket from the fan case.

      1. Remove the nuts, the bolts and the washers which attach the panel supporting bracket to the fan case.

      2. Remove the panel supporting bracket.

    10. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-198-A00 Remove the Fire Shields from the No.1 Strut Fairing Panel (Pre SBE 72-0216)

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the shields from the No. 1 strut fairing panel.

      1. Remove the nuts, the washers and the screws which attach the shields to the No. 1 strut fairing panel.

      2. Remove the shields.

    11. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-198-B00 Remove the Fire Shields from the No.1 Strut Fairing Panel (SBE 72-0216 and Pre SBE 72-0230)

      SBE 72-0216: Additional plate nut on the No.1 strut fairing panel.

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the shields from the No. 1 strut fairing panel.

      1. Remove the screws which attach the shields to the No. 1 strut fairing panel.

      2. Remove the shields.

    12. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-215 Remove the Pressure Boss and the Block from the Fan Case

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the bolts which attach the fan exit pressure boss to the fan case. Remove the fan exit pressure boss.

    3. Remove the stopper and the pin which attach the block to the fan case flanges. Remove the block.

    13. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-086-A00 Remove the Front Fairings from the Brackets (Pre SBE 72-0136)

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. NOTE

      Make sure that the work mat has sufficient dimensions to give full protection to the lower half of the fan case.

      Put a work mat in position in the fan case.

      3. Remove the screws and the dimpled washers which attach the front fairings to the brackets.

      1. Remove the screws.

      2. Use a screwdriver or an equivalent hand tool to cause separation of each dimpled washer from the front fairing.

      3. Remove the dimpled washers.

    4. CAUTION

      CAREFULLY USE A THIN BLADE CUTTER TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE FAN OUTLET INNER VANE ASSEMBLY AND THE FRONT FAIRINGS.

      Use a thin blade cutter to break the silicone compound between the fan outlet inner vane assembly and the front fairings.

    5. Remove the front fairings from the brackets.

    14. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-086-B00 Remove the Front Fairings from the Brackets (SBE 72-0136)

      SBE 72-0136: Deletion of polyurethane coating on the front fairing.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. NOTE

      Make sure that the work mat has sufficient dimensions to give full protection to the lower half of the fan case.

      Put a work mat in position in the fan case.

      3. Remove the front fairings.

      1. Remove the screws which attach the front fairings to the brackets on the LP compressor booster stage assembly, Figure.

      2. Remove the front fairings from the brackets.
