General

Fig/Item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the rear fairings, the transition panels, the fan exit guide vanes, the front liner panels, the middle liner panel, the rear liner panels and the panel rubber seals.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved penetrating oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No.1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the leading edge.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-150 Remove Silicone Compound from the Fan Exit Guide Vanes (FEGVs) and the Transition Panels

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Make sure that the fan frame and the fan case assembly is installed horizontally on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-003-A00 (DISASSEMBLY-003, CONFIG-001).

    3. NOTE

      Make sure that the workmat has sufficient dimensions to give full protection to the lower half of the fan case.

      Put a workmat in position in the fan case.

      4. CAUTION

        DO NOT DAMAGE THE SURFACES OF THE FEGVS.

        Remove silicone compound filled in the 40 recesses in the FEGV outer platforms and the 40 recesses in the FEGV inner platforms.

      1. Remove the silicone compound around the bolt in each recess with a scraper or an equivalent hand tool.

      5. CAUTION

        DO NOT DAMAGE THE SURFACES OF THE TRANSITION PANELS.

        Remove silicone compound filled in the 20 recesses in the transition panels.

      1. Remove the silicone compound around the bolt in each recess with a scraper or an equivalent hand tool.

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-151 Remove the Rear Fairings from the LP Compressor Bleed Duct

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the screws, the sleeves, the socket head bolts and the washers which attach the rear fairings to the LP compressor bleed duct.

    3. Remove the five rear fairings from the LP compressor bleed duct.

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-152 Remove the Transition Panels from the FEGVs

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the five transition panels from the FEGVs.

      1. Remove the 20 bolts and washers which attach the five transition panels to the FEGVs. Remove the transition panels.

    4. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-153 Remove the Brackets from the LP Compressor Rear Case

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the eight brackets A, B, C, D, E, F, G and H from the rear flange of the LP compressor rear case.

      1. Remove the 23 bolts (01-720) which attach the eight brackets to the rear flange.

      2. Remove the brackets.

    5. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-154 Remove the FEGVs from the Fan Case

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the 20 FEGVs from the fan case.

      1. Remove the two bolts and washers which attach each FEGV inner platform to the bush in the LP compressor stage 2.5 vanes.

      2. Remove the two bolts and washers which attach each FEGV outer platform to the fan case. Remove the FEGVs.

    3. Remove the workmat from the fan case.

    6. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-155 Remove the Front Liner Panels, the Middle Liner Panel and the Rear Liner Panels from the Fan Case

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. CAUTION

        DO NOT DAMAGE THE SURFACES OF THE PANEL RUBBER SEALS, THE LINER PANELS AND THE STRUTS.

        Remove the 10 front liner panels from the fan case.

      1. Remove the 30 screws which attach the front liner panels to the fan case.

      2. Remove the front liner panels.

      3. Remove the middle liner panel from the fan case.

      1. Remove the two screws which attach the middle liner panel to the fan case.

      2. Remove the middle liner panel.

      4. Remove the 10 rear liner panels from the fan case.

      1. Remove the 40 screws and four nuts which attach the rear liner panels to the fan case.

      2. Remove the rear liner panels.

    7. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-227-A00 Remove the Panel Rubber Seals (Pre SBE 72-0156)

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the screws and the nuts which attach the 10 panel rubber seals to the fan case.

      3. Remove the panel rubber seals.

      1. CAUTION

        CAREFULLY USE A THIN BLADE CUTTER. THE CUTTER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE PANEL RUBBER SEALS AND THE FAN CASE.

        Cut the silicone compound between the panel rubber seals and the fan case if the silicone compound prevents removal of the panel rubber seals. Use a thin blade cutter or an equivalent hand tool.

    8. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-227-B00 Remove the Panel Rubber Seals (SBE 72-0156)

      SBE 72-0156: Replace the fan case No. 1 rubber seal

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the screws and the nuts which attach the 10 panel rubber seals to the fan case.

      3. Remove the panel rubber seals.

      1. CAUTION

        CAREFULLY USE A THIN BLADE CUTTER. THE CUTTER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE NO. 1 PANEL RUBBER SEAL AND THE FAN FRAME NO. 1 STRUT.

        Cut the silicone compound between the No. 1 panel rubber seal and the fan frame No. 1 strut if the silicone compound prevents removal of the panel rubber seal. Use a thin blade cutter or an equivalent hand tool.

      2. CAUTION

        CAREFULLY USE A THIN BLADE CUTTER. THE CUTTER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE PANEL RUBBER SEALS AND THE FAN CASE.

        Cut the silicone compound between the panel rubber seals and the fan case if the silicone compound prevents removal of the panel rubber seals. Use a thin blade cutter or an equivalent hand tool.

    9. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-228-A00 Remove the Unwanted Silicone Compound from the Panel Rubber Seals and the Fan Case (Pre SBE 72-0156)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. CAUTION

      CAREFULLY USE A SCRAPER. THE SCRAPER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE PANEL RUBBER SEALS AND THE FAN CASE.

      Use a scraper or an equivalent hand tool to remove the silicone compound from these:

      - the rear ends of the No.1 thru 10 panel rubber seals.

      - the fan case.

    10. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-228-B00 Remove the Unwanted Silicone Compound from the Panel Rubber Seals, the Fan Case and the Fan Frame No. 1 Strut (SBE 72-0156)

      SBE 72-0156: Replace the fan case No. 1 rubber seal

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. CAUTION

      CAREFULLY USE A SCRAPER. THE SCRAPER CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE OF THE PANEL RUBBER SEAL, THE FAN CASE AND THE FAN FRAME NO. 1 STRUT.

      Use a scraper or an equivalent hand tool to remove the silicone compound from these:

      - the front end of the No. 1 panel rubber seal.

      - the rear ends of the No. 1 thru 10 panel rubber seals.

      - the fan case.

      - the fan frame No. 1 strut.
