Preliminary Requirements

Procedure

1. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-053 Remove the Rear Lock Nut

   NOTE

   If the removal of the No. 5 bearing inner race and the carbon seal is necessary continue with this SUBTASK. If the removal of these two parts is not necessary, continue with Step.

   1. Refer to Figure.

   2. Disengage the retaining ring from the rear lock nut. Remove the retaining ring with the locking ring from the rear lock nut.

   3. Attach the IAE 1F10037 Wrench support 1 off to the inner rear flange of the turbine exhaust case.

   4. Install the IAE 1F10038 Torque wrench 1 off through the wrench support. Engage the torque wrench with the rear lock nut of the LP turbine shaft.

   5. Install the IAE 1F10039 Anti-torque adapter 1 off through the torque wrench. Lock the anti-torque adapter to the LP turbine shaft.

   6. Install the IAE 1F10016 Mechanical wrench 1 off to the torque wrench. Safety the anti-torque adapter to the mechanical wrench with the IAE 1F10040 Anchor wrench plate 1 off.

   7. Operate the mechanical wrench to release the rear lock nut.

   8. Remove the tools from the engine as follows:

      1. Remove the anchor wrench plate and the mechanical wrench.

      2. Disengage the lock mechanism of the anti-torque adapter and remove the adapter.

      3. Remove the torque wrench.

      4. Remove the wrench support.

   9. Remove the rear lock nut of the LP turbine shaft.

2. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-071 Disconnect the Oil Feed Tube of the No. 5 Bearing

   1. Refer to: Figure

   2. Remove the three nuts and bolts which attaches the bracket to the oil feed tube and to the external turbine exhaust case flange. Remove the bracket.

   3. Remove the nut and the bolt which attaches the clamp on the oil feed tube to the bracket. Remove the clamp.

   4. Remove the two nuts and bolts which attaches the bracket to the inner support of the turbine exhaust case. Remove the bracket.

   5. Remove the three bolts which attaches the flange of the oil feed tube to the No. 5 bearing compartment. Disconnect the tube from the flange and discard the metallic seal.

3. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-072 Remove the Oil Jet and Filter of the No. 5 Bearing

   1. Refer to: Figure

   2. Release and remove the oil filter from the oil jet. Use IAE 1P16426 remove/installation driver 1 off.

   3. Move the oil transfer tube rearwards in to the oil jet until the removal of the oil jet is possible.

   4. Move the oil jet forward and disengage from the front flange of the No. 5 bearing compartment. Remove the oil jet.

   5. Remove the oil transfer tube from the oil jet and discard the two seal rings.

   6. Put all removed parts in a protective bag.

4. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-054 Install the Guide Pogo Stick to the LP Turbine Shaft

   1. Refer to: Figure

   2. Install the IAE 1F10074 Guide pogo stick 1 off through the inner diameter of the LP turbine shaft. Use an applicable webbing sling.

   3. Make sure that the centering diameter of the guide pogo stick is installed correctly to the LP turbine shaft. Turn clockwise the screw at the rear end of the guide pogo stick to safety the guide pogo stick to the LP turbine shaft.

5. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-055 Install the Remove/Installation Fixture to the Turbine Exhaust Case

   1. Refer to: Figure

   2. Attach a hoist equipment to the upper supports of the IAE 1F10073 remove/installation fixture 1 off.

   3. Install the remove/installation fixture to the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case. Attach the remove/installation fixture with 13 bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts.

6. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-056 Remove the Turbine Exhaust Case from the LP Turbine case

   
   CAUTION
   HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU LOOSEN AND REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE LP TURBINE CASE/TURBINE EXHAUST CASE FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED.

   1. Remove the 114 bolts, washers and nuts and the 16 brackets from the turbine exhaust case and from the LP turbine case.

   2. Turn the jack-screw (part of IAE 1F10073 remove/installation fixture) clockwise to release the turbine exhaust case from the LP turbine case.

   3. Move the turbine exhaust case carefully upwards on the guide pogo stick.

   4. Remove the turbine exhaust case from the guide pogo stick and install it to the IAE 1F10178 Storage and Turnover adapter 1 off.

7. SUBTASK 72-50-00-030-059 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Inner Race and the Carbon Seal (Pre SBE 72-0142 and SBE 72-0142)

   1. SBE 72-0142: Provide a new carbon seal for the No. 5 bearing compartment

   2. Make sure that the rear lock nut is removed. Install the IAE 1F10035 Hydraulic Removal puller 1 off to the rear face of the LP turbine shaft. Engage the jaws of the puller with the grooves of the carbon seal.

   3. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the puller.

   4. Operate the hydraulic pump until the No. 5 bearing inner race and the carbon seal are free of the LP turbine shaft.

   5. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the puller.

   6. Pre SBE 72-0142: Release the jaws of the puller and remove the No. 5 bearing inner race and the carbon seal. Refer to Figure. SBE 72-0142: Release the jaws of the puller and remove the No. 5 bearing inner race and the carbon seal. Refer to Figure.
