TASK 72-50-10-030-011-A00 LPT Case And Rotor Assembly - Disassemble The LPT Diffuser Outer Segments And The LPT Stage 3 Stator Vanes From The LPT, Disassembly-011

General

Refer to TASK 72-50-10-030-001 (Prepare for Disassembly) before you do this TASK.

Fig/item numbers in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts and parts with an interference fit. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Remove and discard the lockwire before parts are disconnected or removed.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and keywashers removed in this procedure.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-121 Attach the Lifting Brackets

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Attach the IAE 1M14039 Lifting bracket 2 off at the front side of the rear flange of the LP turbine case with the seven bolts.

    3. Tighten the bolts.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-122 Lift and Turn the LP Turbine Case

    1. Use hoist equipment. Lift the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off above the LP turbine case.

    2. Install the two cables sling to the lifting brackets.

    3. Loosen the 25 screws which secure the LP turbine case front flange to the IAE 1M14010 Assembly/Disassembly fixture 1 off. Remove the screws.

    4. Lift and turn the LP turbine case by 180 degrees.

    5. Put the LP turbine case rear flange down on to the IAE 1M14031 Assembly stand 1 off.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-124-A00 Remove the Outer Duct of the Diffuser (Pre SBE 70-0889)

      WARNING

      DURING DISASSEMBLY DO NOT BREATHE DUST OF THE LOOSENED BOLTS. PREVENT SKIN AND EYE CONTACT WITH RELEASED DUST. THE DUST CONTAINS NICKEL PARTICLES WHICH CAN POSE A HEALTH HAZARD. BEFORE DISASSEMBLY LUBRICATE ACCESSIBLE BOLTS AND BOLT HEADS, NUTS AND EXPOSED THREADS WITH AN APPROVED, SUITABLE PENETRANT OIL. WEAR A FACE MASK AND GOGGLES. DO NOT REMOVE DUST DEPOSITS WITH COMPRESSED AIR. REMOVE ANY SURFACE DUST PARTICLES WITH A DISPOSABLE DAMP RAG OR SIMILAR. AFTER END OF THIS PROCEDURE CLEAN YOUR HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN WHERE POSSIBLE.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Loosen and remove all the 16 bolts which secure the diffuser outer duct assemblies and the diffuser support.

    3. Remove all the 16 assembly segments.

    4. Remove all the 16 strip seals from the assembly segments.

    5. Put the segments and the strip seals in a basket.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-124-B00 Remove the Outer Duct of the Diffuser (SBE 70-0889)

      WARNING

      DURING DISASSEMBLY DO NOT BREATHE DUST OF THE LOOSENED BOLTS. PREVENT SKIN AND EYE CONTACT WITH RELEASED DUST. THE DUST CONTAINS NICKEL PARTICLES WHICH CAN POSE A HEALTH HAZARD. BEFORE DISASSEMBLY LUBRICATE ACCESSIBLE BOLTS AND BOLT HEADS, NUTS AND EXPOSED THREADS WITH AN APPROVED, SUITABLE PENETRANT OIL. WEAR A FACE MASK AND GOGGLES. DO NOT REMOVE DUST DEPOSITS WITH COMPRESSED AIR. REMOVE ANY SURFACE DUST PARTICLES WITH A DISPOSABLE DAMP RAG OR SIMILAR. AFTER END OF THIS PROCEDURE CLEAN YOUR HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN WHERE POSSIBLE.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Loosen and remove all 16 bolts which secure the diffuser outer duct assemblies and the diffuser support.

    3. Remove all the 16 heatshields.

    4. Remove all the 16 strip seals from the assy segments.

    5. Put the heatshield, the segments and the strip seals in a basket.

    5. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-125 Lift and Turn the LP Turbine Case

    1. Lift and turn the LP turbine case by 180 degrees.

    6. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-126 Put the Assembly Plate on to the Assembly Stand

    1. Put the IAE 1M14037 Assembly plate 1 off in the center of the assembly stand.

    2. Lower the LP turbine case carefully with the front end down on to the assembly plate.

    7. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-127 Install the Retaining Blocks

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Keep the stage 3 vane segments with the IAE 1M14038 Retaining block 29 off. Install the retaining blocks to each joint of the stage 3 vanes.

    8. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-128 Remove the Inner Duct of the Diffuser

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. WARNING

      DURING DISASSEMBLY DO NOT BREATHE DUST OF THE LOOSENED BOLTS. PREVENT SKIN AND EYE CONTACT WITH RELEASED DUST. THE DUST CONTAINS NICKEL PARTICLES WHICH CAN POSE A HEALTH HAZARD. BEFORE DISASSEMBLY LUBRICATE ACCESSIBLE BOLTS AND BOLT HEADS, NUTS AND EXPOSED THREADS WITH AN APPROVED, SUITABLE PENETRANT OIL. WEAR A FACE MASK AND GOGGLES. DO NOT REMOVE DUST DEPOSITS WITH COMPRESSED AIR. REMOVE ANY SURFACE DUST PARTICLES WITH A DISPOSABLE DAMP RAG OR SIMILAR. AFTER END OF THIS PROCEDURE CLEAN YOUR HANDS AND EXPOSED SKIN WHERE POSSIBLE.

      Loosen and remove all the 29 bolts which secure the assembly support, the support ring and the stage 3 air seal ring.

    3. Remove the stage 3 air seal ring.

    4. Lift the LP turbine case.

    5. Remove the diffuser inner duct assembly from the assembly plate.

    9. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-129 Install the Assembly Fixture to the Assembly Plate

    1. Install the IAE 1M14036 Assembly fixture 1 off on to the assembly plate.

    2. Make sure that the dowel pin is in the guide slot on the center hole of the assembly plate.

    3. Turn the assembly fixture counterclockwise until the outer front flange touches the assembly plate.

    10. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-130 Put the LP Turbine Case on to the Assembly Plate

    1. Lower the LP turbine case on to the assembly plate.

    2. Move the lifting ring of the assembly fixture upwards until it touches the stage 3 vane assembly.

    3. Remove the two cables sling.

    11. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-131 Remove the Retaining Blocks

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove all the 29 retaining blocks from each joint of the stage 3 vanes.

    12. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-132-A00 Install the Lifting Fixture

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      NOTE

      Make sure that the rear hub hooks from all the vanes become free from the groove in the turbine case.

    2. Lower the lifting ring, part of the assembly fixture.

    3. Install the IAE 1M14035 Lifting fixture 1 off above the stage 3 vane assembly.

    4. Lower the lifting fixture carefully on to the stage 3 vane assembly. Put the lifting fixture in the center. Turn the lifting fixture to engage the hooks through the vane segments. Each hook must engage through the second and third vane airfoils of the vane cluster.

    5. Remove hoist equipment.

    6. Make sure that the lifting fixture correctly touches the inner and outer shroud of the stator.

    7. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT EACH TAIL OF THE HOOKS IS ATTACHED CORRECTLY TO THE STAGE 3 VANES. IF NOT THE PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED. THE HOOKS CAN BE SEEN THROUGH THE APERTURE OF THE LIFTING FIXTURE.

      Push the 15 hooks down. Turn the hooks by 90 degrees so that they engage the front edges of the second vane airfoils.

    8. Attach the hooks with the knurled knobs. Tighten the knurled knobs.

    13. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-133 Remove the Stage 3 Vane Assembly

    1. Attach hoist equipment on to the electronic balance load. Lift the electronic balance load above the LP turbine case. Attach the IAE 1M14035 Lifting fixture 1 off to the electronic balance load. Use the lifting sling.

    2. Hoist the electronic balance load until the balance scale shows the value of approximately 96.0 lb (43.5 kg) plus the weight of the lifting sling.

    3. CAUTION

      WHILE REMOVAL OF THE STAGE 3 VANE ASSEMBLY MAKE SURE THAT THE BALANCE SCALE KEEPS APPROXIMATELY AT THE SAME POSITION TO PREVENT DAMAGES.

      Compress the ropes of the lifting sling while you disengage the vane assembly from the LP turbine case grooves.

    4. Lift the stage 3 vane assembly with the lifting fixture and the electronic balance load out of the LP turbine case.

    5. Put the stage 3 vane assembly on to the IAE 1M14032 Mounting plate 1 off.

    6. Release the hooks of the lifting fixture. Remove the lifting fixture from the stage 3 vane assembly. Remove the electronic balance load from hoist equipment.

    14. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-134 Remove the Stage 3 Front Heatshield

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the stage 3 front heatshield from the LP turbine case.

    3. Put the front heatshield on a rack pallet.

    15. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-135 Remove the Assembly Supports of the Diffuser Outer Duct

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the eight assembly supports of the diffuser outer duct from the LP turbine case.

    3. Remove the eight strip seals from the assembly supports.

    4. Put the assembly supports and the strip seals in a storage box.

    16. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-136 Disassemble the Stage 3 Vanes

    1. Move all vane segments out of the mounting plate.

    2. Put the vane segments and the sealing strip seals in baskets.

    17. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-137 Remove the Support Ring, the Diffuser Assembly Support and the Inner Segment Duct

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the support ring from the rear flange of the diffuser inner duct.

    3. Remove the diffuser assembly support.

    4. Remove the 12 segment ducts.

    5. Put all parts in basket.

    18. SUBTASK 72-50-10-030-138 Remove the LP Turbine Case from the Assembly Plate

    1. Use hoist equipment. Install the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off. Lift the LP turbine case with the two cables sling from the assembly plate.

    2. Put the LP turbine case on a storage stand.

    3. Remove the two cables sling from the LP turbine case.

    4. Remove the two cables sling from the hoist equipment.

    5. Loosen the seven bolts of the two lifting brackets. Remove the bolts and the lifting brackets from the LP turbine case.

    6. Remove the assembly fixture from the assembly plate.

    7. Remove the assembly plate from the assembly stand.
