Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-065 Machine the No. 5 Bearing Seat

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. If chrome plate was present.

      2. Remove the existing chrome plate by SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501. If chrome plate was not removed completely by SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501, grind to remove the chrome plate.

      1. If chrome plate was not present, machine to remove damage from the No. 5 bearing seat.

      2. The diameter must be between 5.527 to 5.537 in. (140.392 to 140.638 mm).

        Surface rough must be 32 micro-in. (0.8 micron) before plating.

        Remove all damage and wear.

        Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-151 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. If grinding method was used to remove chromium plate, then do a local fluorescent penetrant inspection of the repair area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501. Use medium sensitivity, water washable. No cracks permitted.

      1. Clean the repair area locally.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-380-062 Apply a Mask to the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Apply a mask to the areas of the turbine exhaust case that are not to be plated.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-330-057 Chromium Plate the No. 5 Bearing Seat

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do the chromium plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

        Plate to a sufficient thickness to permit the machining to the last dimension.

        The plate out of the seat is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the mask.

      1. Bake the turbine exhaust case assembly after chromium plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

        Do this process as soon as possible in less than four hours after chromium plate.

      1. Do a visual inspection of the plating for finish and bond.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-220-502.

      1. Grind the seat of the No. 5 bearing.

      2. The last dimension of the seat must be between 5.5210 to 5.5230 in. (140.232 to 140.278 mm).

        Clean up the edges of groove and chamfer, where necessary.

      1. Clean the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      1. Examine the turbine exhaust case after chromium plate.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-220-502.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-061 Record the Repair

      1. Mark VRS5408 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Make a permanent mark by the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501. Use vibration peen method. Remove the metal lifted by marking the number.
