General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the oil feed adapter, the main oil distributor, the oil feed tube, the rear seal drain tube, the bush and the dowel pins.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No. 1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the No. 1 strut leading edge.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-188 Turn the Fan Frame Assembly to the Horizontal Position

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Make sure that the fan frame assembly is installed, vertically with the front end up, on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-013 (DISASSEMBLY-013).

    4. Release the lock pin from the holes in the handle and the support C of the turnover stand.

    5. Turn the handle to set the fan frame assembly horizontal with the No. 6 strut up.

    6. NOTE

      Make sure that the hole in the support C and one of the eight holes in the handle are aligned. If necessary, turn the handle to make the two holes aligned.

      Install the lock pin in to position to lock the handle of the turnover stand.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the three bolts which attach the oil tube cover to the oil feed adapter, Figure. Remove the oil tube cover.

    4. Remove the oil feed tube from the No. 4 strut, Figure. Remove the three sealing rings and two packings from the oil feed tube and discard them.

      1. Remove the main oil distributor from the No. 4 strut.

      2. Remove the three bolts and washers which attach the main oil distributor to the No. 4 strut. Remove the main oil distributor.

      3. Remove the sealing ring from the main oil distributor and discard it.

    5. Remove the three bolts and washers which attach the oil feed adapter to the fan frame assembly. Remove the oil feed adapter.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-190 Remove the Rear Seal Drain Tube from the Fan Frame (Pre SBE 72-0211)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the bolt which attach the drain tube to the fan frame assembly.

    4. Remove the drain tube.

    5. Remove the sealing ring from the drain tube and discard.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-201 Remove the Bush from the Fan Frame

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the IAE 1J12446 Pusher 1 off to the fan frame.

    4. Engage the pusher (part of the IAE 1J12446 Pusher) with the bush by the pusher nut A (part of the IAE 1J12446 Pusher).

    5. Turn the pusher nut B (part of the IAE 1J12446 Pusher) until the bush is released from the hole on the fan frame.

    6. Remove the pusher.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-202 Remove the Dowel Pins from the Fan Frame

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the four nuts and washers which attach the dowel pins to the rear flange of the fan frame.

    4. Attach IAE 1J12443 Puller 1 off on to the rear flange of the fan frame.

    5. Turn the puller nut to pull out the dowel pin from the rear flange of the fan frame.

    6. Do steps C. and D. again for the remaining three four dowel pins.
