    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-350-062 Remove the Strip Seals from the Fan Exit Guide Vane

      1. Remove the strip seals from the fan exit guide vane.

      2. Refer to VRS1772, TASK 72-32-88-300-007 (REPAIR-007).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-053 Remove the Polyurethane Rubber from the Fan Exit Guide Vanes Assembly

      1. Examine and identify damaged vanes, outer platform and unbonds.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-88-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

      1. If necessary, remove oil, grease and contamination with cloth made moist with isopropyl alcohol.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-054-A01 Remove the Polyurethane Rubber from the Fan Exit Guide Vane Assembly - Cooling Method - Assembly A

    2. WARNING

      DURING THE OPERATION, WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES AND GOGGLES TO PROTECT AGAINST EXTREME LOW TEMPERATURE FOR COOLING.

      WARNING

      MAKE SURE THERE IS SUFFICIENT VENTILATION DURING THE OPERATION.

      WARNING

      DISPOSE OF REMOVED POLYURETHANE RUBBER INTO A SPECIFIED BOX FOR PLASTIC WASTE.

      WARNING

      AVOID EXTREMELY STRONG STROKES DURING HAMMERING IN ORDER NOT TO DAMAGE VANE, INNER AND OUTER PLATFORM.

      NOTE

      This Step is an alternative to Step.

      Put the fan exit guide vane in a stainless cage and set it into cooling tank, then cool by liquified nitrogen.

      1. Cool the fan exit guide vane at minus 274 to minus 310 deg F (minus 170 to minus 190 deg C) for 40 to 60 minutes.

      1. Hammer the inner and /or outer platform to separate vanes from platform, as soon as the fan exit guide vane is drawn out from the cooling tank.

        1. Hit the outside inner or outer platform toward the inside by hammer.

        2. Use wooden or plastic hammer.

      1. If the fan exit guide vane can not be disassembled completely, do this SUBTASK again.

        1. Extra cooling time should be 20 to 30 minutes.

        2. Total cooling time must be less than 90 minutes.

      Put the fan exit guide vane assembly into the oven.

      1. Heat the fan exit guide vane assembly at 302 to 329 deg F (150 to 165 deg C) for 40 to 60 minutes.

      2. Use an electric oven.

    3. Take vanes off from inner and outer platform by hand, as soon as the fan exit guide vane is drawn out from the oven.

      1. WARNING

        MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE IN THE SOLDERING IRON SHOULD NOT EXCEED 338 DEG. F (170 DEG. C) IN ORDER TO PREVENT GENERATING POISONOUS GAS AND DAMAGING ALUMINUM OF BASE METAL.

        WARNING

        WEAR HEAT RESISTANT GLOVES AND GOGGLES DURING OPERATION.

        WARNING

        MAKE SURE THERE IS SUFFICIENT VENTILATION DURING THE OPERATION.

        WARNING

        DISPOSE OF REMOVED POLYURETHANE RUBBER INTO A SPECIFIED BOX FOR PLASTIC WASTE.

        Scrape residual polyurethane rubber from vane, inner and outer platform by soldering iron and scraper.

        1. Keep the temperature of the iron at 302 to 329 deg F (150 to 165 deg C).

        2. A presence of residual polyurethane as a thin brownish color film is acceptable.

        3. Use soldering iron.

        4. Use bamboo scraper.

    2. Air blast to remove residual contamination and residues.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-055-A02 Remove the Residual Polyurethane Rubber from the Fan Exit Gude Vane Assembly - Non-Chlorine Solvent Method - Assembly A

      1. NOTE

        This Step is an alternative to Step.

        NOTE

        If the residual polyurethane is forming a smooth thin film of brownish color on the surface, this SUBTASK is no necessary. It can be removed by dry abrasive blast 15.C.

        Soak the vane platform in stripping solution, at temperature of 160 to 212 deg F (71 to 100 deg C) for 1 to 2 hours.

    2. Put the vane and platform fully in cold water tank, then spray rinse with cold water.

    3. Put the vane and platform fully in hot water at 150 to 200 deg F (66 to 93 deg C).

    4. Air blast to remove residual contamination and residues.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-055-B01 Remove the Residual Polyurethane Rubber from the Fan Exit Gude Vane Assembly - Soldering Iron Procedure - Assembly B

      1. WARNING

        MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE IN THE SOLDERING IRON SHOULD NOT EXCEED 338 DEG. F (170 DEG. C) IN ORDER TO PREVENT GENERATINF POISONOUS GAS AND DAMAGING ALUMINUM OF BASE METAL.

        2. A prescence of residual polyurethane as thin brownish color film is acceptable.

        3. Use soldering iron.

        4. Use bamboo scraper.

    2. Air blast to remove residual contamination and residues.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-055-B02 Remove the Residual Polyurethane Rubber from the Fan Exit Gude Vane Assembly - Non-Chlorine Solvent Procedure - Assembly B

      1. CAUTION

        DO NOT SOAK THE OUTER PLATFORM OF ASSEMBLY B IN NON-CHLORINE SOLVENT. IF THE OUTER PLATFORM IS SOAKED IN NON-CHLORINE SOLVENT, THE OUTER PLATFORM MUST BE SCRAPPED.

        NOTE

        Do Step Soldering iron method for the outer platform of assembly B.

        NOTE

        This Step is an alternative to Step.

        NOTE

        If the residual polyurethane is forming a smooth thin film of brownish color on the surface, this SUBTASK is not necessary. It can be removed by dry abrasive blast in 17 deg C.

        Soak the vane and platform in stripping solution, except outer platform of assembly B, at temperature of 160 to 212 deg F (71 to 100 deg C) for 1 to 2 hours.

    2. Put the vane and platform fully in cold water tank, then, pressure spray rinse with cold water.

    3. Put the vane and platform fully in hot water at 150 to 200 deg F (66 to 93 deg C).

    4. Air blast to remove residual contamination and residues.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-230-057-A00 Examine the Outer Platform, Inner Platform and Vane for Cracks - Assembly A

      1. Fluorescent penetrant examine the outer platform, inner platform and vanes.

        1. Make sure there are no cracks in the outer platform, inner platform and vanes.

        2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

        3. Refer to TASK 72-32-88-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

        4. Use penetrant crack test equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-230-057-B00 Examine the Inner Platform and Vanes for Cracks - Assembly B

      1. Fluorescent penetrant examine the inner platform and vanes.

        1. Make sure there are no cracks in the inner platform and vanes.

        2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

        3. Refer to TASK 72-32-88-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

        4. Use penetrant crack test equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-290-052 Make the Test Piece for the Tensile Test

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Make the three test pieces.

      2. Refer to ASTM D2240.

      1. Prepare the surface of the test pieces.

      2. Refer to Step.

        1. Refer to SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-055.

        2. Step A,B,C,E through M, for the use of the same mixed batch as applied to FEGV in mold.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-360-057 Prepare the Surface of the Inner Platform, Outer Platform and Vanes, Assembly A and B

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the grease from the inner platform, outer platform and vanes.

      2. Use CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL with lint free cloth.

      1. Mask inner platform, outer platform and vanes without the molding surfaces.

      1. Dry abrasive blast the molding surface with the silicon carbide grit at 75.8 to 81.4 psi (523.1 to 561.6 KPa) pressure and 45 degree impingement angle.

    3. Remove masking tape.

    4. Remove residual abrasive by vacuuming.

      1. Clean the blasted surfaces.

      2. Use CoMat 01-124 ISOPROPYL ALCOHOL with lint free cloth.

    5. CAUTION

      AFTER PREPARATION THE PREPARED SURFACE MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND, TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION.

      Dry the blasted surfaces at room temperature for 15 minutes minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-360-058 Apply and Cure the Primer to Molding Surfaces on Outer Platform - Assembly B

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. CAUTION

        AFTER PREPARATION THE PREPARED SURFACE MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND, TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION.

        Apply a mask to the areas where the molding is not to be applied.

      1. Apply a thin layer of primer to molding surfaces of outer platform.

    3. Dry the primer at room temperature fo 15 minutes.

      1. Cure the primer at 338 to 356 deg F (170 to 180 deg C) for one hour.

      2. Use an electric oven.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-055 Apply and Cure the Polyurethane Resin - Assembly A and B

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. WARNING

        YOU MUST USE PLASTIC GLOVES, DURING PREPARATION AND USE OF THE RESIN TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE SKIN.

        Apply a thin layer of the primer to molding surfaces of inner and outer platform and vanes within half an hour after cleaning.

      2. Use CoMat 07-068 PRIMER with lint free cheese cloth and tweezers.

    3. CAUTION

      IN LESS THAN EIGHT HOURS THE PRIMER MUST BE APPLIED AND CURED AND THE POLYURETHANE RESIN MUST BE APPLIED TO THE FEGV AND SPECIMENS.

      Dry the component at room temperature for 15 minutes.

      1. Cure the component at 239.0 to 249.8 deg F (115 to 121 deg C) for 13 to 15 minutes.

      2. Use an electric oven.

      1. Assemble the new or serviceable vanes, the inner platform and outer platform onto molding fixture.

      2. NOTE

        Locally manufactured tool may be used instead of IAE 3J12834 Molding fixture if all the requirements in Figure and Figure.re satisfied after the molding.
      1. Prepare the polyurethane resin.

        1. Put 5.29 oz (150 g) of the part A into teflon beaker.

        2. Put 0.88 oz (25 g) of part B into another beaker.

        3. The quantity of the part A and B above can be applied between three vanes and inner or outer platform.

      1. Heat the polyurethane resin to reduce the viscosity sufficient to allow for pour and pump.

        1. Heat the part A at 167 to 185 deg F (75 to 85 deg C) and part B at 275 to 293 deg F (135 to 145 deg C).

        2. Use an electric oven.

      1. Before mixing, remove entrapped air from part A.

      2. Use vacuum vessel and vacuum pump.

        1. Put part B into the part A teflon beaker, and mix with stainless spoon.

        2. Part A 99.0 to 101.0 parts by weight.

        3. Part B 16.2 to 17.2 parts by weight.

      1. Remove entrapped air from the mixture caused by mixing, under 0.19 in.Hg (5 mm Hg) for one minute maximum.

      2. Use vacuum vessel and vacuum pump.

      1. NOTE

        Locally manufactured tool may be used instead of IAE 3J12834 Molding fixture if all the requirements in Figure and Figure.re satisfied after molding.

        Apply polyurethane resin to FEGV and test pieces.

    4. First cure at room temperature for 4 to 16 hours.

      1. Then cure at 239.0 to 260.6 deg F (115 to 127 deg C) for four to four and a half hours.

      2. Use electric oven.

    5. After cooling, remove the molding assembly from the fixture.

    6. Remove the excess polyurethane resin to the specified shape.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-330-056 Apply the Surface Protection on the Fan Exit Guide Vane Assembly - Assembly A and B

      1. Apply chromate conversion coating to the tool marks on the fan exit guide vane assembly.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 72-32-88-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-220-079 Examine the Pepaired Area of the Fan Exit Guide Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Visually inspect the molded areas for cracks, peeling, pits, voids and unwanted material.

      1. Do a hardness test for the polyurethane rubber.

        1. Use hardess tester (Durometer A).

        2. Hardness: 85 to 96.

      1. Do a tensile test for the three test pieces.

        1. Refer to ASTM D412.

        2. Use tensile tester.

        3. Tensile strength min. 2418 psi (1.7 kg/mm2).

      1. Dimensionally inspect the fan exit guide vane assembly including molding areas.

      2. Use IAE 3J12836 Inspection fixture and depth gage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-350-063 Install the Strip Seals to the Fan Exit Guide Vane

      1. Install the strip seals to the fan exit guide vane.

      2. Refer to VRS1772, TASK 72-32-88-300-007 (REPAIR-007).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-88-350-064 Mark Repair Number on the Fan Exit Guide Vane Assembly

      1. Write VRS1771, adjacent to the part number on the fan exit guide vane assembly.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        2. Use the vibrating marking pencil.

      1. Apply the chromate conversion coating to the marked repair number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.
