TASK 72-41-30-040-001-C00 HPC Front Case And Vane Assembly - Disassemble The HP Compressor Upper And Lower Half Front Cases, Disassembly-001 - SBE 72-0564 And 72-0571 (SelectOne Production Standard)

General

This TASK gives the procedure to disassemble the HP compressor upper and lower half front cases, which have SBE 72-0564 and SBE 72-0571 (SelectOne Production Standard) incorporated.

Refer to TASK 72-41-00-040-001-B00 to disassemble the HP compressor assembly.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the EIPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the EIPC.

Apply the approved CoMat 10-058 PENETRATING OIL before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal.

Discard all rubber seal rings and cotter pins removed in this procedure.

Remove and discard the lockwire before the part is disconnected.

Refer to SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501 for the procedure to make identification marks.

Refer to Figure for a sectional view of the HP compressor front case.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-067 Remove the Stage 6 Stator Vanes

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Identify each stator vane with its position number as the vanes are removed. Use vibration peening equipment to identify the vanes. Refer to Figure for the position for identification marks.

      1. Remove the stop vane and stator vanes from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the stop vane at position 1 and the stator vanes at positions 2 to 21.

        NOTE

        The stop vane at position 22 is removed in Step
      3. Remove the stator vanes at positions 23 to 42.

      1. Remove the stop vane and stator vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the stop vane at position 43 and the stator vanes at positions 44 to 63.

        NOTE

        The stop vane at position 64 is removed in Step
      3. Remove the stator vanes at positions 65 to 84.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-068 Remove the Stage 5 Actuating Ring and the Stage 5 Stator Vanes

      1. Remove the L/H and R/H bridging piece assemblies.

      2. Remove the eight bolts and eight self locking nuts.

      3. Remove the four stage 5 L/H and R/H bridging pieces.

      1. Remove the stage 5 actuating levers.

      2. Remove the 64 bolts which attach the 64 actuating levers.

      3. Remove the upper actuating levers and the upper actuating ring.

      4. Remove the lower actuating levers and the lower actuating ring.

      1. Remove the stage 5 stator vanes from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. CAUTION

        YOU MUST NOT LET THE BOLTS TURN WHEN YOU REMOVE THEM AS THE BOLTS ARE A CLOSE TOLERANCE FIT. IT MAY CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ITEM/EQUIPMENT.

        Remove the 16 nuts and bolts which attach the front and rear half shrouds to the stage 5 stator vanes inner pivot point.

      3. Remove the front and rear half shroud one piece bushes.

      4. Remove the 32 stage 5 stator vanes from positions 1 to 32.

      5. Remove and discard the 32 O-ring seals from the spindles of the stage 5 stator vanes.

      1. Remove the stage 5 stator vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the 32 stage 5 stator vanes of positions 33 to 64 from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in step E.(1) to E.(4).

      1. Remove the centralizer support assemblies.

      2. Remove the 16 self locking nuts which attach the eight stage 5 centralizer support assemblies to the upper and lower actuating rings.

      1. Remove the stage 5 drive bracket from the stage 5 lower actuating ring.

      2. Remove the two bolts and two self locking nuts which attach the drive bracket to the lower actuating ring.

      3. Remove the drive bracket.

    2. Remove the six rigging pins.

      1. Remove the stage 5 stator vane bushes.

        NOTE

        The bosses are at positions 1, 32, 33 and 64.
        1. Use IAE 1R18823 Bushing extractor 1 off to remove the four bushes at the four booses.

        2. Install the pin into one of the bushes to be removed.

        3. Install the two split bushes on the bush to be removed.

        4. Install the nut X on the pin. Tighten the nut X to hold the extractor in the correct position.

        5. Install the nut W on the pin.

        6. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off, on the pin.

        7. Tighten the nut W, installed in step (d) to attach the extractor to the impact extractor.

        8. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

        9. Remove the bush from the bush extractor.

        10. Remove the remaining three bushes as given in steps (a) to (h).

        1. Use IAE 1R18270 Removal adapter 1 off to remove the remaining 60 bushes.

        2. Install the screw in to one of the stage 5 stator vane bushes (short bosses) to be removed.

        3. Install the two halves of the body on the screw and over the bush.

        4. Install the nut Z on the screw. Lightly tighten the nut Z to hold the body in position.

        5. Install the hose clip on the body. Tighten the hose clip on the body.

        6. Tighten the nut Z.

        7. Install the nut Y.

        8. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off on the screw.

        9. Tighten the nut Y on the impact extractor to attach the impact extractor to the screw.

        10. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

        11. Remove the bush from the extractor adapter.

        12. Remove the remaining 59 stage 5 stator vane bushes (short boss) as given in steps (a) to (j).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-069 Remove the Stage 4 Actuating Ring and the Stage 4 Stator Vanes

      1. Remove the stage 4 L/H and R/H bridging piece assemblies.

      2. Remove the eight bolts and eight self locking nuts.

      3. Remove four stage 4 L/H and R/H bridging pieces.

      1. Remove the stage 4 actuating levers.

      2. Remove the 50 bolts which attach the 50 actuating levers.

      3. Remove the upper actuating levers and the upper actuating ring.

      4. Remove the lower actuating levers and the lower actuating ring.

      1. Remove the stage 4 stator vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the 12 bolts, 24 washers and the 12 nuts which attach the stage 4 half shroud to the stage 4 stator vanes at the inner pivot point.

      3. Remove the front half shroud with the integral seal and rear half shroud and the one piece bushes.

      4. Remove the 25 stage 4 stator vanes from positions 1 to 25.

    2. Remove and discard the 25 O-ring seals from the spindles of the stage 4 stator vanes removed in step E.(3).

      1. Remove the stage 4 stator vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the 25 stage 4 stator vanes of positions 26 to 50 from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in steps E.(1) to E.(5).

      1. Remove the centralizer support assemblies.

      2. Remove the 16 self locking nuts which attach the eight stage 4 centralizing support assemblies to the upper and lower actuating rings.

      1. Remove the stage 4 drive bracket from the stage 4 lower actuating ring.

      2. Remove the two bolts and two self locking nuts which attach the drive bracket to the lower actuating ring.

      3. Remove the drive bracket.

    3. Remove the six stage 4 rigging pins.

      1. Remove the 50 stage 4 stator vane bushes. Use IAE 1R18823 Bushing extractor 1 off.

      2. Install the pin into one of the bushes to be removed.

      3. Install the two split bushes on the bush to be removed.

      4. Install the nut X on the pin. Tighten the nut X to hold the extractor in the correct position.

      5. Install the nut W on the pin.

      6. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off on the pin.

      7. Tighten the nut W, installed in step J.(4) to attach the extractor to the impact extractor.

      8. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

      9. Remove the bush from the bush extractor.

      10. Remove the remaining 49 stage 4 stator vane bushes as given in steps J.(1) to J.(8).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-070 Remove the Stage 3 Actuating Ring and the Stage 3 Stator Vanes

      1. Remove the stage 3 L/H and R/H bridging piece assemblies.

      2. Remove the eight bolts and eight self locking nuts.

      3. Remove four stage 3 L/H and R/H bridging pieces.

      1. Remove the stage 3 actuating levers.

      2. Remove the 32 bolts which attach the 32 actuating levers.

      3. Remove the upper actuating levers and the upper actuating ring.

      4. Remove the lower actuating levers and the lower actuating ring.

      1. Remove the stage 3 stator vanes from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the eight bolts, the 16 washers and the eight nuts which attach the stage 3 front and rear half shroud to the stage 3 stator vanes at the inner pivot points.

      3. Remove the front half shroud with the integral seal and rear half shroud and the one piece bushes.

      4. Remove the 16 stage 3 stator vanes.

      5. Remove and discard the 0-ring seals from the spindles of the stage 3 stator vanes.

      1. Remove the stage 3 stator vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the 16 stage 3 stator vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in steps E.(1) to E.(4).

      1. Remove the centralizer support assemblies.

      2. Remove the 14 self locking nuts which attach the eight stage 3 centralizing support assemblies to the upper and lower actuating rings.

      1. Remove the stage 3 drive bracket from the stage 3 lower actuating ring.

      2. Remove the two bolts and two self locking nuts which attach the drive bracket to the lower actuating ring.

      3. Remove the drive bracket.

    2. Remove the six stage 3 rigging pins.

      1. Remove the stage 3 stator vane bushes.

        NOTE

        The short bosses are at positions 8 and 9.
        1. Use IAE 1R18270 Removal adapter 1 off to remove the two bushes at the two short bosses.

        2. Install the screw in to one of the stage 3 stator vane bushes (short bosses) to be removed.

        3. Install the two halves of the body on the screw and over the bush.

        4. Install the nut Z on the screw. Lightly tighten the nut Z to hold the body in position.

        5. Install the hose clip on the body. Tighten the hose clip on the body.

        6. Tighten the nut Z.

        7. Install the nut Y.

        8. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off on the screw.

        9. Tighten the nut Y on the impact extractor to attach the impact extractor to the screw.

        10. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

        11. Remove the bush from the extractor adapter.

        12. Remove the remaining stage 3 stator vane bush (short boss) as given in steps (a) to (j).

        1. Use IAE 1R18822 Bushing extractor 1 off to remove the remaining 30 bushes.

        2. Install the pin into one of the bushes removed.

        3. Install the two split bushes on the bush to be removed.

        4. Install the nut X on the pin. Tighten the nut X to hold the extractor in the correct position.

        5. Install the nut W on the pin.

        6. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off on the pin.

        7. Tighten the nut W, installed in step (d) to attach the extractor to the impact extractor.

        8. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

        9. Remove the bush from the bush extractor.

        10. Remove the remaining 29 stage 3 stator vane bushes as given in steps (a) to (h).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-071 Remove the Inlet Guide Vane Actuating Ring and the Inlet Guide Vanes

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove the VIGV L/H and R/H bridging piece assemblies.

      2. Remove the eight bolts and eight self locking nuts.

      3. Remove the four VIGV L/H and R/H bridging pieces.

      1. Remove the VIGV actuating levers.

      2. Remove the 40 bolts which attach the 40 actuating levers.

      3. Remove the upper actuating levers and the upper actuating ring.

      4. Remove the lower actuating levers and the lower actuating ring.

      1. Remove the inlet guide vanes from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the three nuts and the three bolts which attach the inlet guide vane half shroud to the split ring assembly.

      3. Remove the inlet guide vane half shroud with the one piece bushes and the split ring assembly.

      4. Remove the 20 inlet guide vanes.

      1. Remove the inlet guide vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the inlet guide vanes from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in steps E.(1) to E.(3).

      1. Remove the centralizer support assemblies.

      2. Remove the 10 self locking nuts and two centralizer bolts which attach the eight VIGV centralizing support assemblies to the upper and lower actuating rings.

    3. Remove the six rigging pins.

      1. Remove the inlet guide vane spindle bushes.

        1. Use IAE 1R18819 Bushing extractor 1 off to remove the two short spindle bushes. These are at the positions 10 and 11 on the upper half HP compressor front case.

        2. Install the screw in to one of the variable inlet guide vane bushes (short spindle) to be removed.

        3. Install the two halves of the body on the screw and over the bush.

        4. Install the nut Z on the screw. Lightly tighten the nut Z to hold the body in position.

        5. Install the hose clip on the body. Tighten the hose clip on the body.

        6. Tighten the nut Z.

        7. Install the nut Y.

        8. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off on the screw.

        9. Tighten the nut Y on the impact extractor to attach the impact extractor to the screw.

        10. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

        11. Remove the bush from the bush extractor.

        12. Remove the remaining variable inlet guide vane bush (short spindle) as given in steps (a) to (j).

        1. Use IAE 1R18289 Bushing extractor 1 off to remove the remaining 38 spindle bushes.

        2. Install the pin into one of the bushes to be removed.

        3. Install the two split bushes on the bush to be removed.

        4. Install the nut X on the pin. Tighten the nut X to hold the extractor in the correct position.

        5. Install the nut W on the pin.

        6. Install IAE 1R18266 Impact extractor 1 off on the pin.

        7. Tighten the nut W, installed in step (d) to attach the extractor to the impact extractor.

        8. Use the impact extractor to remove the bush.

        9. Remove the bush from the bush extractor.

        10. Remove the remaining 37 variable inlet guide vane bushes as given in steps (a) to (h).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-072 Remove the Stages 4 to 6 Rotor Path Rings

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove the stage 6 rotor path ring with liners from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove and discard the stage 6 front and rear liners.

      3. Remove the segment of the stage 6 rotor path ring at the opposite flange to the anti-rotation stop.

      4. Remove the stage 6 stop vane installed at the center position. Use vibration peening equipment to identify the stop vane with its position number.

      5. Remove the sealing strip from between the segments of the stage 6 rotor path rings.

      6. Remove the remaining segment of the stage 6 rotor path ring.

    3. Remove the stage 6 rotor path ring with liners from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in Step to Step.

      1. Remove the stage 5 rotor path ring from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the segment of the stage 5 rotor path ring at the opposite flange to the anti-rotation pin.

      3. Remove the sealing strip from between the segments of the stage 5 rotor path ring.

      4. Remove the remaining segment of the stage 5 rotor path ring.

    4. Remove the stage 5 rotor path ring from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in steps D.(1) to (3).

      1. Remove the stage 4 rotor path ring from the upper half HP compressor front case.

      2. Remove the segment of the stage 4 rotor path ring at the opposite flange to the anti-rotation pin.

      3. Remove the sealing strip from between the segments of the stage 4 rotor path ring.

      4. Remove the remaining segment of the stage 4 rotor path ring.

    5. Remove the stage 4 rotor path ring from the lower half HP compressor front case as given in steps F.(1) to (3).

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-073 Remove the Stage 3 and 6 Borescope Blanks

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the two bolts which attach the stage 3 stator borescope blank to the lower half HP compressor front case.

    4. Use IAE 1R18648 Puller extractor 1 off to remove the stage 3 stator borescope blank.

    5. Remove the two bolts which attach the stage 3 rotor borescope blank to the lower half HP compressor front case.

    6. Use IAE 1R18648 Puller extractor 1 off to remove the stage 3 rotor borescope blank.

    7. Remove the two bolts which attach the stage 6 stator borescope blank to the lower half HP compressor front case.

    8. Use 1R18648 puller extractor 1 off to remove the stage 6 stator borescope blank.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-30-040-074 Remove the Support Tool Blanks and the Blanking Plates

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the two bolts which attach the support tool blank and the bracket to the upper half HPC front case. Remove the support tool blank and the bracket.

    4. Remove the four bolts which attach the two support tool blanks and the bracket to the lower half HPC front case. Remove the two support tool blanks and the bracket.

    5. Remove the four bolts which attach the two blanking plates to the upper and lower half HPC front case. Remove the two blanking plates.
