Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-093 Open the Shipping Equipment

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Loosen and remove the safety parts of the IAE 5F10125 Shipping equipment 1 off.

    3. Install hoist equipment to the upper half of the shipping equipment.

      NOTE

      1. If the handling fixture is installed at the LP turbine module continue with SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-097.

      2. If the No. 5 bearing compartment cover and turbine blind cap are not installed continue with SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-096.

    4. Lift the upper half of the shipping equipment and remove it.

    2. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-094 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Compartment Cover

      NOTE

      Safety the IAE 1F10080 Horizontal stand 1 off with the three arms. Refer to Figure.

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Remove the 13 bolts that attach the compartment cover to the exhaust case.

    3. Remove the No. 5 bearing shields. Make sure that the three jaws of the IAE 1P17038 Slide puller 1 off are in the outward position..

    4. Engage the IAE 1P17038 Slide puller 1 off onto the compartment cover. Make sure that the three jaws are correctly engaged behind the flange at the compartment cover.

    5. Slide the ring over the jaws to hold slide puller jaws in place.

    6. Move the knocker puller rearwards quickly to hit the handle.

    7. Repeat step E. until the compartment cover is free from the exhaust case.

    8. Remove the ring from the jaws. Move the three jaws outward until compartment cover is free from slide puller.

    3. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-095 Remove the Blind Cap of the LP Turbine Shaft

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Remove the internal ring of the blind cap.

    3. Install the IAE 1P17039 Slide puller 1 off into the turbine shaft. Make sure that the guide of the slide puller is correctly aligned with the turbine shaft.

    4. Move the hammer forward until the head touches the blind cap. Push against the body of the slide puller until the jaws engage into the groove of the blind cap.

    5. Move the dent remover rearward quickly until it hits the grip.

    6. Repeat step D. until the blind cap is free from the turbine shaft.

    7. Remove the slide puller and the blind cap from the LP turbine shaft.

    8. Release the head of the slide puller and remove the blind cap.

    9. CAUTION

      DO NOT DAMAGE THE SLOT SURFACE WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SEALING RING FROM THE SLOT OF THE BLIND CAP WITH HAND TOOLS. DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE WILL CAUSE OIL LEAK.

      Remove the sealing ring from the blind cap and discard it.

    4. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-096 Attach the Handling Fixture to the LP Turbine Module

    1. Refer to: Figure

      NOTE

      The No. 5 bearing nozzle can be damaged during Assembly of the IAE 1F10063 Expanding retainer. Remove the No. 5 bearing nozzle. Refer to TASK 72-00-50-420-004-C00.

    2. Install the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the rear spools of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off.

    4. Install the expanding retainer to the inner diameter of the LP turbine shaft. Attach the support fixture to the rear inner flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    5. Turn the handwheel counterclockwise until the support is installed safely in the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    6. Turn the knob counterclockwise to push the clamps against the inner diameter of the LP turbine shaft.

    7. Lift the handling fixture and install it to the expanding retainer. Align the handling fixture with the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case.

    8. Attach the handling fixture to the rear flange of the turbine exhaust case with 13 screws. Tighten the screws.

    9. Safety the expanding retainer to the handling fixture with the two nuts. Tighten the nuts.

    10. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE NUTS ARE TIGHTENED, IF THE FIXTURES ARE NOT CORRECTLY SECURED THE LP TURBINE CASE AND ROTOR PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED DURING HANDLING OF THE LP TURBINE MODULE.

      Install the two cables sling to the front spools of the handling fixture.

    5. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-097 Install the Transportation Blanks to the LP Turbine Module

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Loosen and remove the seven bolts from each of the IAE 1M14146 Support plate 2 off. Remove the support plates from the front flange of the LP turbine case and from the LP turbine shaft, refer to Figure.

    3. Install the transportation blanks (part of IAE 5F10125 Shipping equipment) to the LP turbine module.

    6. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-098 Remove the LP Turbine Module from the Horizontal Stand

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Attach the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the front spool of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture which is installed at the LP turbine module.

    3. Loosen the nut of the eyebolt (part of the IAE 1F10080 Horizontal stand 1 off).

    4. Loosen the ringnut A. Turn the ringnut A to the end position.

    5. Loosen the ringnut B from the rear end of the support.

    6. Disengage the eyebolt. Turn the block in open position.

    7. Loosen and remove the 12 head caps crews which attach the LP turbine module to the rear support of the horizontal stand.

    8. Move the LP turbine module carefully rearwards, to get it free from the horizontal stand. Lift the LP turbine module from the horizontal stand.

    9. Loosen the ringnut C and remove the shaft (part of the horizontal stand) from the LP turbine shaft.

    10. Install the shaft to the front support of the horizontal stand. Close the block and safety with the eyebolt and the nut.

    11. Install the shaft which is part of the IAE 5F10149 Shipping frame 1 off to the front end of the LP turbine shaft. Safety the shaft to the LP turbine shaft with the ringnut C.

    7. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-099 Install the LP Turbine Module to the Shipping Equipment

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Lower the LP turbine module carefully to the front support of the IAE 5F10149 Shipping frame.

    3. Move the LP turbine module slowly down and align the shaft in the front support of the shipping frame.

    4. Make sure that the LP turbine shaft is correctly aligned to the front support. Align the bolt holes of the LP turbine case front flange with the bolt holes of the shipping frame.

    5. Attach the LP turbine module with the 28 head capscrews to the shipping frame. Tighten the capscrews.

    6. Turn the ringnuts A and B to the support to safety the LP turbine module axially to the front support of the shipping frame. Tighten the ringnuts A and B.

    7. Turn the opened block down and safety the support. Engage the eyebolt. Tighten the nut of the eyebolt.

    8. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-100 Remove the Handling Fixture from the LP Turbine Module

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Attach the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the front spools of the handling fixture.

    3. Turn the knob (part of IAE 1R18907 Expanding retainer 1 off) clockwise until it is blocked.

    4. Loosen the nut and turn it rearwards to the end position.

    5. Loosen and remove the 13 bolts, washers and nuts.

    6. Move the handling fixture carefully 4in. (101 mm) rearwards until it is free from the turbine exhaust case flange.

    7. Move the handling fixture carefully downwards to disengage it from the expanding retainer.

    8. Lift the handling fixture carefully away from the LP turbine module and store it.

    9. Remove the two cables sling from the handling fixture.

    10. Remove hoist equipment from the two cables sling.

    11. Turn the handwheels (part of the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off) clockwise to disengage the support from the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    12. Disconnect the bearing protection from the turbine exhaust case rear inner flange. Remove the support fixture and the retainer.

    9. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-101 Install the Compartment Cover Temporarily

    1. Put the blind cap, the internal retaining ring of the LP turbine module and the No. 5 bearing nozzle in to a bag of the shipping equipment. Install a protective plug on the oil feed tube.

    2. Put nine bolts of the compartment cover into a bag of the shipping equipment.

    3. Attach the compartment cover and the No. 5 bearing sheilds with four bolts to the turbine exhaust case. Tighten the bolts.

    4. Install the IAE 1F10107 Protective cover 1 off to the rear flange of the LP turbine module.

    10. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-102 Put the Desiccant into the MVP Bag

    1. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE DESICCANT BAGS WILL NOT BE DAMAGED OR RUPTURED. IF PARTICLES OF DESICCANT ENTER THE LP TURBINE MODULE, REMOVE THE LP TURBINE MODULE FROM THE SHIPPING FRAME. DISASSEMBLE THE LP TURBINE MODULE AS FAR AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE ALL DESICCANT PARTICLES COMPLETELY (REFER TO TASK 72-50-00-030-001-C00 AND TASK 72-50-10-030-007-B00).

      Put the necessary quantity of CoMat 12-022 DESICCANT SELF INDICATING into the MVP bag of the shipping equipment.

    11. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-061 Put the Engine Documentation into the Shipping Equipment

    1. Put the engine documentation into a CoMat 12-004 P.V.C. SHEET.

    2. Put the PVC sheet into the MVP bag of the shipping equipment.

    12. SUBTASK 72-50-00-530-104 Close the Shipping Equipment

    1. Refer to: Figure

    2. Seal the MVP bag.

    3. Install hoist equipment to the upper half of the shipping equipment.

    4. Install the upper half of the shipping equipment to the lower half.

    5. Safety the two halves of the shipping equipment with the attaching parts.
