TASK 70-38-43-380-501 Application Of CoMat 10-0151 Antigallant Compound
General
To identify the consumable materials, refer to the Consumable Materials Index.
Preliminary Requirements
Pre-Conditions
| Action/Condition | Data Module/Technical Publication |
|---|---|
| Make sure that all of the specified cleaning and inspection procedures are completed before you do this procedure. Refer to the Engine Manual. The specified cleaning includes removal of the antigallant compound, and it is necessary to fully remove the antigallant compound before you do the specified inspections. | |
| Do all heat treatments of other procedures that use temperatures higher than 600 F (316 C) before you do the steps to apply the antigallant compound in this procedure. |

WARNING
Procedure
Remove grease and oil from the areas to be coated. Use SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503, then dry in ambient air.
NOTE
The shelf life of the compound is nine months from the date of manufacture if you keep the compound in the manufacturers initial sealed container at temperatures of 40 - 90 F (4 - 32 C).Do a check of the expiration on the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT container.
If necessary to make it easier to apply the compound, it is permitted to add thinner to the compound. Refer to the manufacturers instructions.
Fully mix the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT. Refer to the manufacturers instruction.
If it is not possible or practical to use a spray, apply the mixed CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT with a brush to get a thickness that is sufficient to not let the base metal show, and is approximately equal in all areas.
If it is not possible to use a spray or a brush, it is permitted to apply the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT with a swab.
NOTE
The material and thickness of the test specimen must be similar to those of the section of the part that must have CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT.Immediately use a spray to apply one layer/coat of CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT to the specified surfaces of the part, and to a representative test specimen, to get a thickness that is sufficient to not let the base metal show, and that is approximately equal in all areas.
Let the antigallant compound dry on the part and the test specimen in air for 30 minutes minimum.
Fully mix the antigallant compound immediately before you apply each layer/coat.
After you apply each layer/coat, let the antigallant compound on the part and the test specimen dry in air for 30 minutes minimum.
Apply more layers/coats of CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT as necessary to get a total coating thickness of approximately 0.0003 - 0.0007 inch (0.0076 - 0.018 mm) on the part and on the representative test panel.
It is permitted to use a brush or swab to apply CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT to areas that do not have sufficient CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT.
Examine the part for full coverage of the specified surfaces with CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT.
Cure the antigallant compound on the part and the test specimen in air at 350 - 400 F (177 - 204 C) for 45 - 75 minutes.
Cure the antigallant compound on the part and the test specimen in air at 275 - 325 F (135 - 163 C) for 105 - 135 minutes.
NOTE
The cure cycle time does not start until the part surface temperature is in the specified cure temperature range.Do one of the subsequent cure cycles to cure the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT:
Air cool.
If you can blow the pile away easily as powder, coating is sufficiently cured.
If the pile is gummy, the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT is not fully cured.
Scrape the coating from the related test specimen into a pile with a sharp, flat instrument.
Examine the test specimen to make sure the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT is fully cured. Do the subsequent procedure:
The cured antigallant compound must have a gray-black matte surface.
The color of the cured antigallant compound must be approximately equal on all coated areas.
The cured antigallant compound coating must be smooth.
The cured antigallant compound coating must be well bonded with no signs of flakes, cracks, or loss of bond.
The cured antigallant compound coating must have no imperfections that can cause unsatisfactory operation of the part.
NOTE
It will be necessary to do the applicable EM repair to replace the paint.Strip the coating by SPM TASK 70-12-07-120-501.
If the part is a painted steel part, strip the paint by SPM TASK 70-11-05-300-503.
Do this procedure to apply CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT and treatment again.
If coating thickness is not in the limits given, do as follows:

Requirements After Job Completion
Follow-On Conditions
| Action/Condition | Data Module/Technical Publication |
|---|---|
| Do not let petroleum solvents or petroleum compounds touch the cured CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT. | |
| For painted steel parts on which it was necessary to remove the CoMat 10-151 COMPOUND AND TREATMENT, ANTI-GALLANT and the paint because of unsatisfactory antigallant compound coating thickness, do the applicable EM repair to replace the paint. |
