General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha-variants refer to the IPC.

Lubricate all threads with approved engine oil, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

For the torque tightening procedure refer to SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and SPM TASK 70-41-01-400-501. For the lockwire data refer to SPM TASK 70-40-01-400-501.

For data on the electrical connectors refer to SPM TASK 70-43-00-400-501 and SPM TASK 70-43-01-400-501.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials, refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 71-00-00-030-003 Disconnect the Bleed Valve Servo Supply Pipeline

      NOTE

      If you cannot easily get access to connect the test set hose to the bleed valve servo supply tube, it is possible to use the green color-coded test set hose and connect directly to the bleed valve connection. This is only possible with the C-ducts open.
      If this procedure is used, the bleed valve servo pipelines will not be tested.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Cut and discard the lockwire that safeties the bleed valve servo supply connector at (B).

    3. Disconnect the bleed valve servo supply connector.

    4. NOTE

      Make sure you get sufficient access to the bleed valve servo supply tube connector.

      Remove the bleed valve servo supply tube.

    2. SUBTASK 71-00-00-430-003 Install the Test Set

      NOTE

      If you cannot easily get access to connect the test set hose to the bleed valve servo supply tube, it is possible to use the green color-coded test set hose and connect directly to the bleed valve connection. This is only possible with the C-ducts open.
      If this procedure is used, the bleed valve servo pipelines will not be tested.

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Set the test select switch on the test set to bleed valve.

      2. Set the pressure/vacuum mode switch on the test set to vacuum.

      3. Set the select vent switch on the test set to open, then to closed.

      4. Connect the bleed valve servo tube connector to the test set blue vacuum hose.

      5. Connect the vacuum hose to the test set bleed valve vacuum input quick release fitting, color-coded blue.

      6. Torque the bleed valve servo connector to 159 to 177 lbf-in (18 to 20 N.m).

    3. SUBTASK 71-00-00-720-003 Test the Stage 7 Bleed Valve

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. NOTE

      After each stroke, stop for three seconds. This will let the air flow into the pump valves and make the task easier.

      Use the hand pump to get 11.6 lb/sq in (80 kPa) on the bleed valve vacuum gage.

      3. WARNING

        THE ELECTRONIC STETHOSCOPE CAN GENERATE LOUD NOISES. SWITCH ON THE STETHOSCOPE BEFORE WEARING THE HEADSET. USE A LOW VOLUME TO BEGIN WITH. INCREASE THE VOLUME SETTING SLOWLY AS NECESSARY.

        NOTE

        When the test is started, listen carefully for bleed valve operation. Use the stethoscope supplied. If possible, use a torch and a mirror to see bleed valve operation.

        Push and hold the test set test switch.

    4. Release the test set test switch.

    5. Do steps A. to C. again, to do a check for intermittently defective operation,

    4. SUBTASK 71-00-00-080-003 Remove the Test Set

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Disconnect the test set blue vacuum hose from the bleed valve servo tube connector.

    3. Disconnect the test set blue vacuum hose from the test set quick release fitting.

    5. SUBTASK 71-00-00-430-003 Connect the Bleed Valve Servo Supply Pipeline

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Connect the bleed valve servo supply tube to the solenoid valve, at (B).

    3. Torque the connector to 159 to 177 lbf-in (18 to 20 N.m).

    4. Safety the connectors with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.
