NOTE

This repair scheme is a Special Procedure and does not replace piece part, repair VRS6306 (Repair damaged helicoil or thin wall inserts).

NOTE

If this repair performed without the front case installed, ensure that suitable precautions are taken to avoid damage to the bare rotor blades and stator vanes.

This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-00-41-200-001 Inspection/Check (Special Procedure 01).

This TASK gives the procedure to repair missing and/or damaged helicoil or thinwall insert(s) in the HP compressor rear outer case assembly, by replacement.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK/SUBTASK number are in the SPM.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-41-220-047 Examine the Assembly

    2. NOTE

      Adjacent components which prevents the access during the repair or damaged components, must be removed. Use applicable disassembly tasks.

      Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Examine and identify the repair location.

      1. Mark all damaged insert hole(s).

      2. Make sure access to all the repair areas.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-41-350-001 Mask the Assembly

    2. NOTE

      This SUBTASK is to prevent foreign objects falling into the engine.

      Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Mask all repair holes opening to the inner side of engine.

    4. Mask holes other than repair holes.

      1. Mask all open holes adjacent to the repair area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-41-350-002-A00 Remove the Damaged Helicoil Insert(s), Assembly A

    2. Remove the damaged helicoil insert(s).

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-08-300-501, SUBTASK 70-35-08-350-001.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-41-350-002-B00 Remove the Damaged Thinwall Insert(s), Assembly B

    2. Remove the damaged thinwall insert(s).

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-26-300-501, SUBTASK 70-35-26-350-001.

    2. Locally clean the repair hole(s).

      1. Locally clean the repair hole(s) to remove the debris.

    3. Locally degrease the repair area.

      2. Use AGS3732 insert HPC Rear Outer Case And Related Parts (72-41-23, 02-432), 90 off and/or AGS3733 insert HPC Rear Outer Case And Related Parts (72-41-23, 02-433), 20 off as necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-41-350-004-B00 Install the Thinwall Insert(s), Assembly B

    2. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT TOO MUCH FORCE FOR SWAGING OPERATION. IT CAN DAMAGE THE COMPRESSOR CASE.

      Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Install the thinwall insert(s).

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-26-300-501, SUBTASK 70-35-26-350-001.

      2. Use AS52761 INSERT - SCREW THREAD (02-432), 80 off and/or AS52762 INSERT - SCREW THREAD (02-433), 20 off, as necessary.
