TASK 72-00-50-020-002 LPT Module - Remove The LPT Module (Horizontal) - Method 1, Removal-002

General

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved oils and procedures, refer to SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all rubber seal rings, cotter pins and key washers removed in this procedure.

NOTE

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-051 Remove the Engine from the Transport Stand

    2. Remove the engine from the transport stand and install it on the support pedestals. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-560-001 (REMOVAL-001).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-136 Install the Cradle Pedestal

    2. Install the IAE 1P16002 Cradle pedestal 1 off below the diffuser case about 1.0 in. (25.4 mm) forward of the diffuser case rear flange.

    3. Turn the adjusting nut until the neoprene cradle touches the diffuser case.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-052 Remove the Inlet Cone

    2. Remove the inlet cone. Refer to TASK 72-38-11-020-001.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-053 Remove the Module Dressings

    2. Remove the module dressings. Refer to TASK 72-00-50-020-001-A00 (REMOVAL-001, CONFIG-001 (A1 MODEL) and CONFIG-2 (A5 MODEL).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-054-A00 V2500-A1: Remove the No.5 Bearing Compartment Cover (Pre SBE 72-0063)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the 12 bolts that attach the compartment cover to the exhaust case.

    4. Remove the rear thermal blanket.

    5. Make sure that the expansion case of the IAE 1F10036 Removal puller 1 off is in the rear position.

    6. Engage the removal puller on to the compartment cover. Make sure that the three clamps are correctly engaged behind the flange at the compartment cover.

    7. Tighten the expansion case until the three spring-loaded braces are in a stable position.

    8. Move the sliding hammer rearwards quickly to hit the handle.

    9. Do Step until the compartment cover is free from the exhaust case.

    10. Loosen the expansion case. Move the expansion case rearwards until the compartment cover is free from the removal puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-054-C00 V2500-A1: Remove the No. 5 Bearing Compartment Cover (SBE 72-0063)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the 13 bolts that attach the compartment cover to the exhaust case.

    4. Remove the No. 5 bearing shields.

    5. Make sure that the three jaws of the IAE 1P17038 Slide puller 1 off are in the outward position. Make sure that the three jaws are correctly engaged behind the flange at the compartment cover.

    6. Slide the ring over the jaws to hold the slide puller jaws in position.

    7. Move the knocker puller rearwards quickly to hit the handle.

    8. Do Step until the compartment cover is free from the exhaust case.

    9. Remove the ring from the jaws. Move the jaws outward until the compartment cover is free from the slide puller.

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the 13 bolts that attach the compartment cover to the exhaust case.

    4. Remove the No. 5 bearing shields.

    5. Make sure that the three jaws of the IAE 1P17038 Slide puller 1 off are in the outward position. Make sure that the three jaws are correctly engaged behind the flange at the compartment cover.

    6. Slide the ring over the jaws to hold the slide puller jaws in position.

    7. Move the knocker puller rearwards quickly to hit the handle.

    8. Do Step until the compartment cover is free from the exhaust case.

    9. Remove the ring from the jaws. Move the jaws outward until the compartment cover is free from the slide puller.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-055-A00 V2500-A1: Remove the Blind Cap of the LP Turbine Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the internal retaining ring of the blind cap.

    4. Install IAE 1J12221 Impact hammer 1 off into the LP turbine shaft. Make sure that the piston of the impact hammer is correctly aligned with the LP turbine shaft.

    5. Move the impact hammer forward until the head touches the blind cap. Push against the body of the impact hammer until the jaws engage into the groove of the blind cap.

    6. Move the hammer rearwards quickly until it hits the grip.

    7. Do Step until the blind cap is free from the LP turbine shaft.

    8. Remove the impact hammer and the blind cap from the LP turbine shaft.

    9. Release the head of the impact hammer and remove the blind cap.

    10. CAUTION

      DO NOT DAMAGE THE SURFACE OF THE BLIND CAP SLOT WITH THE HAND TOOLS WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SEALING RING. DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE CAN CAUSE AN OIL LEAK.

      Remove and discard the sealing ring from the blind cap.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-055-B00 V2500-A5: Remove the Blind Cap of the LP Turbine Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the internal retaining ring of the blind cap.

    4. Install the IAE 1P17039 Slide puller 1 off into the turbine shaft. Make sure that the guide of the slide puller is correctly aligned with the LP turbine shaft.

    5. Move the slide puller forward until the head touches the blind cap. Push against the body of the slide puller until the jaws engage into the groove of the blind cap.

    6. Move the dent remover rearward quickly until it hits the handle.

    7. Do Step until the blind cap is free from the turbine shaft.

    8. Remove the slide puller and the blind cap from the LP turbine shaft.

    9. Release the head of the slide puller and remove the blind cap.

    10. CAUTION

      DO NOT DAMAGE THE SURFACE OF THE BLIND CAP SLOT WITH THE HAND TOOLS WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SEALING RING. DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE CAN CAUSE AN OIL LEAK.

      Remove and discard the sealing ring from the blind cap.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-224 Remove the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the two bolts and key washers which attach the No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube to the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle.

    4. Install the IAE 1P16624 Slide Puller 1 off into No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube.

    5. Move the knocker puller rearwards quickly and hit the handle to remove the No. 5 Bearing Transfer Tube from the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle.

    6. Remove the No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube and the three packings from the No. 5 Bearing Packing Transfer Tube. Discard the packings.

    7. Remove the two bolts which attach the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle.

    8. Remove the No. 5 Bearing Nozzle and packing. Discard the packing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-056-A00 V2500-A1: Attach the Handling Fixture to the LP Turbine Module

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the rear spools of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off.

    4. Install the expanding retainer into the inner diameter of the LP turbine shaft. Attach the support fixture to the rear inner flange of the turbine exhaust case (TEC).

    5. Turn the handwheel counter-clockwise until the support is installed safely in the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    6. Turn the knob counter-clockwise to push the clamps against the inner diameter of the LP turbine shaft.

    7. Remove the 13 bolts, washers and nuts from the handling fixture. Lift the handling fixture and install it to the expanding retainer. Align the handling fixture with the rear flange of the TEC.

    8. Attach the handling fixture to the rear flange of the TEC with the 13 bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten the bolts and nuts.

    9. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE NUTS ARE TIGHTENED. THE NUTS LOCK THE EXPANDING RETAINER TO THE HANDLING FIXTURE AND HOLD THE LP TURBINE ROTOR IN AXIAL DIRECTION. IF NOT CORRECTLY HELD, THE LP TURBINE CASE AND ROTOR PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED DURING HANDLING OF THE LP TURBINE MODULE.

      Attach the expanding retainer to the handling fixture with the two nuts. Tighten the nuts.

    10. Install the two cables sling to the front spools of the handling fixture.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-056-B00 V2500-A5: Attach the Handling Fixture to the LP Turbine Module

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the IAE 1F10052 Two cables sling 1 off to the rear spools of the IAE 1F10058 Handling fixture 1 off.

    4. Install the expanding retainer into the inner diameter of the LP turbine shaft. Attach the support fixture to the rear inner flange of the turbine exhaust case (TEC).

    5. Turn the handwheel counter clockwise until the support is installed safely in the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    6. Turn the knob counter-clockwise to push the clamps against the inner diameter of LP turbine shaft.

    7. Remove the 13 bolts, washers and nuts from the handling fixture. Lift the handling fixture and install it to the expanding retainer. Align the handling fixture with the rear flange of the TEC.

    8. Attach the handling fixture to the rear flange of the TEC with the bolts, washers and nuts. Tighten the bolts and nuts.

    9. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE NUTS ARE TIGHTENED. THE NUTS LOCK THE EXPANDING RETAINER TO THE HANDLING FIXTURE AND HOLD THE LP TURBINE ROTOR IN AXIAL DIRECTION. IF NOT CORRECTLY HELD, THE LP TURBINE CASE AND ROTOR PARTS CAN BE DAMAGED DURING HANDLING OF THE LP TURBINE MODULE.

      Attach the expanding retainer to the handling fixture with the two nuts. Tighten the nuts.

    10. Install the two cables sling to the front spools of the handling fixture.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-057 Remove the Turbine Shaft Front Lock Nut

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. NOTE

      If the LP compressor fan disk and blades are installed, do Step and continue then with Step. If the LP compressor fan disk and blades are not installed, do Step alternatively to Step.

      Release the internal retaining ring and remove the locking cap from the front end of the LP turbine shaft.

    4. Install the support B (part of the IAE 1J12260 Spanner wrench 1 off) to the retaining ring of the LP compressor disk. Attach the support B with the four bolts.

    5. Install the support A (part of the spanner wrench) to the curvic coupling of the LP stub shaft. Attach the support A with the four bolts.

    6. Install the drive bar and the drive coupling (parts of the spanner wrench) through the support A or B. Engage the outside spanner on to the front lock nut of the LP turbine shaft.

    7. Attach the rod and nut of the spanner wrench into the inner threaded hole in the LP turbine shaft.

    8. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THAT THE IMMOBILIZER IS FULLY ENGAGED WITH THE LOCK NUT TEETH BEFORE YOU LOOSE THE NUT.

      Carefully install the immobilizer in to the drive bar until a yellow line goes out of view.

    9. NOTE

      The immobilizer is correctly installed against the lock nut if the yellow line can not be seen.
    10. Install the center thumb nut on to the rod to safety the immobilizer.

    11. Assemble the IAE 1F10016 Mechanical wrench 1 off with a hoist to the spanner wrench.

    12. Install the spring, the anchor plate and the clamp disk on to the immobilizer. Safety with the two thumb nuts.

      1. If you use the support A operate the mechanical wrench to release the front lock nut of the LP turbine shaft as follow:

      2. Monitor the white line on the body of the drive bar.

      3. Stop to operate the mechanical wrench if there is an axial movement of the nut (white line) to 0.31 in. (8.0 mm).

    13. If you use the support B the white line of the drive bar cannot be seen. Stop the operation of the mechanical wrench when the axial movement of the nut (anchor plate) is near 0.31 in. (8.0 mm). Refer to the "CAUTION" which is on a label of the front face of the tool.

    14. Remove the two thumb nuts, the clamp disk, the anchor plate and the spring from the immobilizer.

    15. Remove the mechanical wrench with the hoist.

    16. Remove the center thumb nut from the rod.

    17. Remove the immobilizer from the drive bar.

    18. Remove the drive bar and drive coupling assembly from the engine.

    19. Remove the support A or the support B.

    20. Loosen and remove the front lock nut by hand from the LP turbine shaft.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-058-A01 V2500-A1 Method 1: Release the LP Turbine Module from the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE SHAFT/DISK FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED BY SCORES.

      Remove the 100 nuts and bolts which attach the LP turbine case to the HP turbine case. Remove the six brackets from the flange.

      1. Install the IAE 1J12220 Hydraulic pusher/puller 1 off to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:

        1. Install the inner subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller (which is made up of a spanner, a plunger and a nut C) into the threaded hole of the LP turbine shaft.

        2. Turn the inner subassembly fully clockwise.

        3. NOTE

          The procedure in Step makes easy the release of the inner subassembly from the LP turbine shaft in Step.

          Hold the LP turbine shaft rear end and turn the inner subassembly counter-clockwise by one turn to loosen it.

        1. Prepare the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller for the usage as a pusher.

        2. Remove nut B from the cylinder. The hydraulic cylinder must be attached to nut B.

        3. Install the hydraulic cylinder into the cylinder with nut B attached to the hydraulic cylinder.

      2. Remove the set screw and nut D if they are installed.

      3. NOTE

        Make sure that the hydraulic connection of the hydraulic cylinder is at the opposite side of the cylinder.

        Attach the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller (which is made up of a guide, a cylinder and a hydraulic cylinder) to the front flange of the LP stub shaft. The four stoppers of the guide must be in line with the scallops of the LP stub shaft.

      4. Turn the guide until the holes in its stoppers are in line with the slots in the front flange of the LP stub shaft. Put the four pins into the holes in the stoppers of the guide. Lock the pins to the guide with the four screws.

    4. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic connection on the hydraulic pusher/puller.

    5. NOTE

      The jackscrews must be identified by a red paint mark.

      Install the eight jackscrews (0.250-28UNJF3A thread) into the LP turbine case front flange bolt holes.

    6. CAUTION

      DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER WITH MORE THAN 7000PSI (483 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HYSRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER.

      NOTE

      Tighten the jackscrews and operate the hydraulic pump at the same time to prevent overloading of the handling fixture.

      Slowly operate the hydraulic pump to disconnect the spline between the LP stub shaft and the LP turbine shaft. At the same time, tighten the jackscrews to break the tight fit. Apply an equal amount of force all around the flange to smoothly disengage the flanges.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES. DRY ICE CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.

        Use CoMat 02-149 DRY ICE if you cannot disconnect the spline with 7000 psi (483 bar) pressure.

      2. Remove the hydraulic pressure/puller.

      3. Put the dry ice on to area A1. Refer to Figure.

      4. Install the hydraulic pusher/puller.

      5. Do Step.

    7. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the hydraulic pusher/puller.

      1. Remove the hydraulic pusher/puller from the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Loosen and remove the four screws which lock the pins to the guide of the IAE 1J12220 Hydraulic pusher/puller 1 off.

      3. Remove the four pins which attach the guide to the flange of the LP stub shaft.

      4. Loosen the set screw on the cylinder.

        1. Prepare the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller for storage.

        2. Remove the hydraulic cylinder from the cylinder with nut B attached to the hydraulic cylinder.

        3. Install nut B into the cylinder with the hydraulic cylinder attached to nut B.

      5. Remove the outer subassembly from the front flange of the LP stub shaft.

      6. Remove the inner subassembly from the inner thread of the LP turbine shaft.

    8. Remove the eight jackscrews from the bolt holes of the LP turbine case front flange after the spline is disconnected.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-058-A02 V2500-A1 Method 2: Release the LP Turbine Module from the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case module.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE SHAFT/DISK FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED BY SCORES.

      Remove the 100 nuts and bolts which attach the LP turbine case to the HP turbine case. Remove the seven brackets from the flange.

      1. Install the IAE 1J12512 Hydraulic pusher hydraulic pusher 1 off to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Install the guide (part of the hydraulic pusher) to the stub shaft. Safety the guide with pin and screw A.

      3. Install the cylinder to the guide with the 12 screws B. Tighten the screws B.

      4. Make sure that the handle (part of the hydraulic pusher) is installed in the plunger.

      5. Install the plunger in to the cylinder. Push the plunger until it is installed in to the LP turbine shaft.

      6. Install the hydraulic cylinder (part of the hydraulic pusher) in to the cylinder.

    4. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic connection on the hydraulic pusher.

    5. NOTE

      The jackscrews must be identified by a red paint mark.

      Install the eight jackscrews (0.250-28UNJF3A thread) in to the LP turbine case front flange bolt holes.

      1. NOTE

        Tighten the jackscrews and operate the hydraulic pump at the same time to prevent overloading of the handling fixture.

        Slowly operate the hydraulic pump to disconnect the spline between the LP stub shaft and the LP turbine shaft. At the same time tighten the jackscrews to break the tight fit at the LP turbine case. Apply an equal amount of force all around the flange to disengage the flanges smoothly.

      2. Supply the hydraulic pusher with pressure of 7000 psi (483 bar) or less. If the LP turbine shaft moves rearward within the maximum pressure, continue pressure supply until the piston of the hydraulic cylinder comes at the rear end. Go to Step.

      3. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES. DRY ICE CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.

        If the LP turbine shaft does not move with the maximum pressure, stop pressure supply. Go to Step.

      1. Cool the LP Turbine shaft with CoMat 02-149 DRY ICE.

      2. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the hydraulic pusher.

      3. Remove the hydraulic pusher (Refer to Step).

      4. Put the dry ice on to area A1. Refer to Figure.

      5. Install the hydraulic pusher (Refer to Step).

      6. CAUTION

        DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER WITH MORE THAN 10000 PSI (690 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER.

        Do Step with hydraulic pressure of 10000 psi (690 bar) or less.

    6. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the hydraulic pusher.

      1. Remove the hydraulic pusher from the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Remove the hydraulic cylinder from the cylinder.

      3. Remove the plunger from the guide.

      4. Remove the 12 screws B and cylinder from the guide.

      5. Remove the screw A and the guide pin to release the guide. Remove the guide from the LP stub shaft.

    7. Remove the eight jackscrews from the bolt holes of the LP turbine case front flange after the spline is disconnected.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-058-B01 V2500-A5 Method 1: Release the LP Turbine Module from the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE SHAFT/DISK FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED BY SCORES.

      Remove the 100 nuts and bolts which attach the LP turbine case to the HP turbine case. Remove the seven brackets from the flange.

      1. Install the IAE 1J12220 Hydraulic pusher/puller 1 off together with IAE 1J12270 Guide puller 1 off to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:

        1. Install the inner subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller (which is made up of a spanner, a plunger and a nut C) into the threaded hole of the LP turbine shaft.

        2. Turn the inner subassembly fully clockwise.

        3. NOTE

          The procedure in Step makes easy the release of the inner subassembly from the LP turbine shaft in Step.

          Hold the LP turbine shaft rear end and turn the inner subassembly counter- clockwise by one turn to loosen it.

        1. Prepare the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller to use as a pusher.

        2. Remove nut B from the cylinder. The hydraulic cylinder must be attached to nut B.

        3. Install the hydraulic cylinder into the cylinder with nut B attached to the hydraulic cylinder, refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the set screw and nut D if they are installed.

      3. NOTE

        Make sure that the hydraulic connection of the hydraulic cylinder is at the opposite side of the cylinder.

        Attach the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller (which is made up of a guide, a cylinder and a hydraulic cylinder) to the front flange of the LP stub shaft. The four stoppers of the guide must be in line with the scallops of the LP stub shaft.

      4. Turn the guide until the holes in its stoppers are in line with the slots in the front flange of the LP stub shaft. Put the four pins into the holes in the stoppers of the guide. Lock the pins to the guide with the four screws.

    4. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic connection on the hydraulic pusher/puller.

    5. NOTE

      The jackscrews must be identified by a red paint mark.

      Install the eight jackscrews (0.250-28UNJF3A thread) into the LP turbine case front flange bolt holes.

    6. CAUTION

      DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER WITH MORE THAN 7000 PSI (483 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DANAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER/PULLER.

      NOTE

      Tighten the jackscrews and operate the hydraulic pump at the same time to prevent overloading of the handling fixture.

      Operate slowly the hydraulic pump to disconnect the spline between the LP stub shaft and the LP turbine shaft. At the same time, tighten the jackscrews to break the tight fit. Apply an equal amount of force around the flange to smoothly disengage the flanges.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES. DRY ICE CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.

        Use CoMat 02-149 DRY ICE if you cannot disconnect the spline with 7000 psi (483 bar) pressure.

      2. Remove the hydraulic pusher/puller.

      3. Put the dry ice onto area A1. Refer to Figure.

      4. Install the hydraulic pusher/puller.

      5. Do Step.

    7. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the hydraulic pusher/puller.

      1. Remove the hydraulic pusher/puller from the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Loosen and remove the four screws which lock the pins to the guide of the IAE 1J12220 Hydraulic pusher/puller1 off together with IAE 1J12270 Guide puller 1 off.

      3. Remove the four pins which attach the guide to the flange of the LP stub shaft.

      4. Loosen the set screw on the cylinder.

        1. Prepare the outer subassembly of the hydraulic pusher/puller for storage.

        2. Remove the hydraulic cylinder from the cylinder with nut B attached to the hydraulc cylinder.

        3. Install nut B into the cylinder with the hydraulic cylinder attached to nut B.

      5. Remove the outer subassembly from the front flange of the LP stub shaft.

      6. Remove the inner subassembly from the inner thread of the LP turbine shaft.

    8. Remove the eight jackscrews from the bolt holes of the LP turbine case front flange after the spline is disconnected.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-058-B02 V2500-A5 Method 2: Release the LP Turbine Module from the LP Compressor/Intermediate Case Module.

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. CAUTION

      HOLD THE BOLTS IN THEIR POSITION WHEN YOU REMOVE THE NUTS FROM THE BOLTS. DO NOT TURN THE BOLTS OR MAKE TO-AND-FRO MOVEMENTS. THE SHAFT/DISK FLANGE AND/OR THE BOLTS CAN BE DAMAGED BY SCORES.

      Remove the 100 nuts and bolts which attach the LP turbine case to the HP turbine case. Remove the seven brackets from the flange.

      1. Install IAE 1J12512 Hydraulic pusher 1 off to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Install the guide (part of the hydraulic pusher) to the stub shaft. Safety the guide with the guide pin and screw A.

      3. Install the cylinder to the guide with the 12 screws B. Tighten the screws B.

      4. Make sure that the handle (part of the hydraulic pusher) is installed in the plunger.

      5. Install the plunger in to the cylinder. Push the plunger until it is installed in to the LP turbine shaft.

      6. Install the hydraulic cylinder (part of the hydraulic pusher) in to the cylinder.

    4. Connect the IAE 1F10026 Hydraulic hand pump 1 off to the hydraulic connection on the hydraulic pusher.

    5. NOTE

      The jackscrews must be identified by a red paint mark.

      Install the eight jackscrews (0.250-28UNJF3A thread) in to the LP turbine case front flange bolt holes.

      1. NOTE

        Tighten the jackscrews and operate the hydraulic pump at the same time to prevent overloading of the handling fixture.

        Slowly operate the hydraulic pump to disconnect the spline between the LP stub shaft and the LP turbine shaft. At the same time tighten the jackscrews to break the tight fit at the LP turbine case. Apply an equal amount of force all around the flange to disengage the flanges smoothly.

      2. Supply the hydraulic pusher with pressure of 7000 psi (483 bar) or less. If the LP turbine shaft moves rearward within the maximum pressure, continue pressure supply until the piston of the hydraulic cylinder comes at the rear end. Go to Step.

      3. If the LP turbine shaft does not move within the maximum pressure, stop pressure supply. Go to Step.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH DRY ICE WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES. DRY ICE CAN CAUSE REDDENING AND BLISTERING OF THE SKIN IF THE HANDS ARE NOT PROTECTED.

        Cool the LP turbine shaft with CoMat 02-149 DRY ICE.

      2. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the hydraulic pusher.

      3. Remove the hydraulic pusher (Refer to Step).

      4. Put the dry ice on to area A1. Refer to Figure.

      5. Install the hydraulic pusher (Refer to Step).

      6. CAUTION

        DO NOT SUPPLY THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER WITH MORE THAN 10000 PSI (690 BAR) PRESSURE. TOO MUCH HYDRAULIC PRESSURE CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE HYDRAULIC PUSHER.

        Do Step with hydraulic pressure of 10000 psi (690 bar) or less.

    6. Disconnect the hydraulic pump from the hydraulic pusher.

      1. Remove the hydraulic pusher from the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Remove the hydraulic cylinder from the cylinder.

      3. Remove the plunger from the guide.

      4. Remove the 12 screws B and cylinder guide.

      5. Remove the screw A and the guide pin to release the guide. remove the guide from the LP stub shaft.

    7. Remove the eight jackscrews from the bolt holes of the LP turbine case front flange after the spline is disconnected.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-059-A00 V2500-A1: Prepare the LP Turbine Module for Removal

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Disconnect the two halves of IAE 1J12280 Guide bar 1 off. Connect the half guide bar, of which two ends are flat, to the inner thread of the LP turbine shaft.

      1. Install IAE 1J12277 Guide support 1 off on to the front flange of the LP stub shaft as follows:

      2. Align the four holes in the guide support with the four slots in the flange of the curvic coupling.

      3. Attach the guide support to the LP stub shaft with the four pins.

      4. Lock the four pins to the guide support with the four screws.

    4. Move the LP turbine module rearwards, until the LP turbine case front flange is 1.5 ft (0.5 m) away from the HP turbine case rear flange.

    5. Connect again the two halves of the guide bar of which one end is conical to the thread of the other guide bar.

    6. Install the guide ring A2 (part of the guide bar) on to the lock nut at the rear face of the stage 2 turbine disk.

    7. Install the IAE 1M14127 Support plate 2 off in the six o'clock and the 12 o'clock positions to the LP turbine case front flange. Connect each segment of the support plate with the seven bolts and nuts.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-059-B00 V2500-A5: Prepare the Turbine Module for Removal

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Disconnect the two halves of the IAE 1J12280 Guide bar 1 off. Connect the half guide bar, of which two ends are flat, to the inner thread of the LP turbine shaft.

      1. Install IAE 1J12269 Guide support 1 off to the LP stub shaft front flange as follows:

      2. Align the four holes in the guide support with the four slots in the flange of the curvic coupling.

      3. Attach the guide support to the LP stub shaft with the four pins.

      4. Lock the four pins to the guide support with the four screws.

    4. Move the LP turbine module rearwards, until the LP turbine case front flange is 1.5 ft (0.5 m) away from the HP turbine case rear flange.

    5. Reconnet the two halves of the guide bar.

    6. Install the guide ring A2 (part of the guide bar) on to the lock nut at the rear face of the stage 2 turbine disk.

    7. Install the IAE 1M14146 Support plate 2 off in the six o'clock and the twelve o'clock position to the LP turbine case front flange. Connect each segment of the support plate with the seven bolts and nuts.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-060 Remove the LP Turbine Module

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Move the LP turbine module rearwards until the front flange of the LP turbine case is approximately 4.0 ft (1.20 m) behind the HP turbine case rear flange.

    4. Remove the guide ring A2 and install the guide ring A3 to the lock nut at the rear flange of the stage 2 turbine disk.

    5. Move the LP turbine module rearwards until the end of the turbine shaft is free of the guide ring A3.

    6. Remove the guide ring A3 and install the guide ring A1 to the lock nut at the rear flange of the stage 2 turbine disk.

    7. Disconnect the guide bar from the LP turbine shaft.

    8. Remove the adjusting ring from the LP turbine shaft. Use the IAE 1J12282 Expanding pliers 1 off.

      1. Remove the dry ice if it is used.

      2. Remove the dry ice from the LP turbine shaft.

      3. CAUTION

        INCREASE THE TEMPERATURE OF THE LP TURBINE SHAFT IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REMOVAL OF THE LP TURBINE SHAFT. IF THE LP TURBINE SHAFT STAYS COOL FOR A LONG TIME, CONDENSATION CAN BE MADE ON THE SHAFT.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT USE A BURNER. USE OF A BURNER CAN DAMAGE THE LP TURBINE SHAFT.

        Increase the metal temperature in the area A1 of the LP turbine shaft to room temperature with a hot air gun.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-105 Install the LP Turbine Module to the Horizontal Stand

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Open the block of the horizontal stand front support. Remove the shaft.

    4. Install the shaft (part of the IAE 1F10080 Horizontal stand 1 off) into the front end of the LP turbine shaft. Lock the shaft to the LP turbine shaft with the ringnut C.

    5. Lower the LP turbine module carefully to the front support of the IAE 1F10080 Horizontal stand 1 off.

    6. Move the LP turbine module slowly down and align the shaft in the front support of the horizontal stand.

    7. Make sure that the shaft is correctly aligned to the front support. Align the bolt holes of the LP turbine case front flange with the bolt holes of the horizontal stand.

    8. Attach the LP turbine module with the 12 head cap screws to the horizontal stand. Tighten the screws.

    9. Turn the ring nuts A and B to the support to hold the LP turbine module in the horizontal stand. Tighten the ringnuts A and B.

    10. Close the block and engage the eyebolt. Tighten the nut of the eyebolt.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-106-A00 V2500-A1: Remove the Handling Fixture from the LP Turbine Module

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Turn the knob, part of the IAE 1F10063 Expanding retainer 1 off clockwise, to disengage the retainer clamps in the LP turbine shaft.

    4. Loosen the nuts that hold the expanding retainer to the handling fixture.

    5. Loosen and remove the 13 bolts, washers and nuts that attach the handling fixture to the TEC flange.

    6. Move the handling fixture carefully 4 in. (101 mm) rearwards until it is free from the TEC rear flange.

    7. Move the handling fixture carefully downwards to disengage it from the expanding retainer.

    8. Lift the handling fixture carefully away from the LP turbine module and store it.

    9. Remove the two cables sling from the handling fixture.

    10. Remove the hoist equipment from the two cables sling.

    11. Turn the handwheels (part of the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off), clockwise to disengage the support from the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    12. Disconnect the protective cover from the TEC rear inner flange. Remove the protective cover and the retainer.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-106-B00 V2500-A5: Remove the Handling Fixture from the LP Turbine Module

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Turn the knob, part of the IAE 1R18907 Expanding retainer 1 off clockwise to disengage the retainer clamps in the LP turbine shaft.

    4. Loosen the nuts that hold the expanding retainer to the handling fixture.

    5. Loosen and remove the 13 bolts, washers and nuts that attach the handling fixture to the TEC flange.

    6. Move the handling fixture carefully 4 in. (101 mm) rearwards until it is free from the TEC flange.

    7. Move the handling fixture carefully downwards to disengage it from the expanding retainer.

    8. Lift the handling fixture carefully away from the LP turbine module and store it.

    9. Remove the two cables sling from the handling fixture.

    10. Remove the hoist equipment from the two cables sling.

    11. Turn the handwheels (part of the IAE 1F10084 Support fixture 1 off) clockwise to disengage the support from the rear end of the LP turbine shaft.

    12. Disconnect the protective cover from the TEC rear inner flange. Remove the protective cover and the retainer.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-50-020-061 Remove the Tools from the Engine

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the guide and the guide ring A1 bar from the engine.

      1. Remove the guide support from the engine. Refer to Figure.

      2. Loosen and remove the four screws which lock the pins to the guide support.

      3. Remove the four pins which attach the guide support to the flange of the curvic coupling.

      4. Remove the guide support from the curvic coupling of the LP turbine stub shaft.
