General

This TASK gives the procedure to install the scavenge oil filter element.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha-variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

For the torque tightening procedures, refer to SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and TASK 70-41-01-400-501.

Special torque data is identified with the symbol * after the torque value.

After assembly apply CoMat 07-038 AIR DRYING ENAMEL to any damaged surface protection, joint flanges and attach parts. Use the correct color of the air drying enamel. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-21-380-501.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-073 Remove the Covers

    1. Remove all the covers, caps or plugs from all the openings.

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-074 Install the Guide Pins IAE 1F10082

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Install the IAE 1F10082 Guide Pin 2 off on the flange of the oil filter housing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-550). Make sure there is a space of more than one hole between each pin.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-075 Install the New Scavenge Oil Filter Element (79-22-44, 01-100)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Install the new Scavenge Oil Filter Element (79-22-44, 01-100) oil filter element 1 off in to the oil filter housing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-550).

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-076 Install the Oil Filter Cover Assembly (79-22-43, 01-250)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate a new Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-155) packing 1 off with clean CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL and install it on the cover Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-250).

    3. Use the IAE 1F10082 Guide Pin 2 off to install the cover Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-250) onto the oil filter housing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-550).

    4. Attach the cover Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-250) to the oil filter housing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-550) with three bolts Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-145) and the three washers Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-150). Tighten the bolts finger tight.

    5. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-077 Remove the Guide Pins IAE 1F10082

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the two IAE 1F10082 Guide Pins from the oil filter housing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-550).

    6. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-078 Install the Remaining Bolts

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Install the remaining three bolts Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-145) and the three washers Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-150).

    3. Torque the six bolts Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-145) to 85 lbfin to 95 lbfin (9.6 Nm to 10.7 Nm).

    7. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-079 Install the Plug (79-22-43, 01-120) (Pre SBE 79-0101)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate a new Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-100) packing 1 off with clean CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL and install it on the plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120).

    3. Install the plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120) on the cover Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-250).

    4. Torque the plug to 53 * lbfin to 71 * lbfin (6 Nm to 8 Nm).

    5. WARNING

      USE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

      Safety the plug with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.

    8. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-095 Install the Plug (79-22-43, 01-120A) (SBE 79-0101)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate a new Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-100A) packing 1 off with clean CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL and install it on the plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120A).

    3. Install the packing Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-100A) and plug Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-120A) to the filter cover assembly cover Scavenge Oil Filter Housing (79-22-43, 01-250).

    4. WARNING

      USE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.

      Torque the plug to 53 * lbfin to 71 * lbfin (6 Nm to 8 Nm).

    5. Safety the plug with CoMat 02-119 LOCKWIRE.

    9. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-080 Fill the Oil System

    1. CAUTION

      DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK IN TO THE OIL SYSTEM.

      Fill the engine oil system as necessary with clean CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.
