The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK numbers are in the SPM.

This Repair scheme gives the procedure for plasma spraying the snap diameter of the rotor center shaft.

The use of clean gloves is necessary to carefully prevent contamination by perspiration or by salts.

NOTE

Equivalent equipment may be used.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-325-056 Machine the Worn Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Locate the rotor center shaft on a lathe, set the rotor center shaft to run true. Secure the rotor center shaft.

      2. Use a lathe.

    3. Dimensionally inspect the snap diameter in order to determine material removal.

      1. Machine the snap diameter to between 9.8207 in (249.446 mm) and 9.8095 in. (249.160 mm) to remove the worn area. Break any sharp edges.

      2. NOTE

        Machining data is given for guidance only.

        65.62 ft (20 m) per minute

        Rate of feed

        0.100 in. (2.54 mm) per revolution

        NOTE

        Hold the diameter to the minimum, to allow for subsequent repairs.
        Any previous coating and damage must be removed.
        If any worn area (scores, etc.) still exists, at the diameter 9.8207 in. (249.446 mm), reject the rotor center shaft.
    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-220-147 Inspect the Rotor Center Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual inspection for the machined area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-21-01-220-501.

    3. Dimensionally inspect the snap diameter.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-230-065 Examine the Rotor Center Shaft for Cracks

      1. Do a crack test.

        1. No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-380-061 Shot Peen the Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply the masking tape.

        1. Apply the masking tape to the area which is not to be shot peened.

      1. Shot peen the snap diameter to an intensity of 6A.

        1. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-04-300-503.

        2. Complete coverage is required.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask off areas that are not to be plasma sprayed.

      1. Abrasive blast the rotor center shaft surface to be plasma sprayed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-340-057 Apply Plasma Spray on the Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Touch up masking if necessary.

      1. Apply plasma spray. Minimum diameter of 9.794in. (248.75 mm) is required after plasma spraying.

    3. Dimensionally inspect the snap diameter after the plasma spraying.

      1. NOTE

        Make sure that subsequent machined profile shall be option 1 or option 2.

        Machine the plasma sprayed snap diameter to between 9.8049 in. (249.046 mm) and 9.8032 in. (249.000 mm).

      2. Use a lathe.

    4. Dress to remove the metal spray step from the lead in chamfer, blend to form a uniform chamfer profile.

      1. Visually examine the plasma sprayed area for chips, cracks, lifted material and coating that is not attached to the parent material. Surfaces that show heat cracks are not permitted.

      2. Use a magnification glass.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-350-072 Identify the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Make a beehive symbol mark with the letters PS inside the beehive and mark VRS1942 adjacent to the part number as shown.

        1. Make a permanent mark as given in the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        2. Use electrolytic permanent mark.
