Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-325-054 Machine the Worn Seal Surface

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Locate the rotor center shaft on a lathe, set the rotor center shaft to run true. Secure the rotor center shaft.

      2. Use a lathe.

      1. Machine the seal surface between 7.4198 in. (188.463 mm) and 7.4079 in. (188.160 mm). Break any sharp edges.

      2. Machining data is given for guidance only.

        Machining data

        Machine speed

        65.62 ft (20 m) per minute

        Rate of feed

        0.1in. (2.54 mm) per revolution

        NOTE

Hold the diameter to a minimum to allow for subsequent repairs. However any previous coating and damage must be removed.
If more than 7.4198 in. (188.463 mm), reject the rotor center.
    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-220-113 Inspect the Rotor Center Shaft

      1. Do a visual inspection for the machined area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-21-01-220-501.

    2. Dimensionally inspect the machined area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-230-063 Examine the Rotor Center Shaft for Cracks

      1. Do a crack test.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501.

        No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-380-059 Shot Peen the Rotor Center Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply the masking tape.

      2. Apply the masking tape to the areas which are not to be shot peened.

      1. Shot peen the seal surface to an intensity of 6A.

      2. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-04-300-503.

        Complete coverage is required.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-120-055 Abrasive Blast the Rotor Center Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask off areas that are not to be plasma sprayed.

      1. Abrasive blast the rotor center shaft surface to be plasma sprayed.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501.

        2. Amount of dimensional change by blasting is negligible and does not affect subsequent procedure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-340-055 Apply Plasma Spray on the Seal Surface

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Touch up masking if necessary.

      1. Apply plasma spray. A diameter of 7.391 in. (187.75 mm) is required after plasma spraying.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-324-061 Machine the Seal Surface

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the plasma sprayed seal surface between 7.4040 in. (188.063 mm) and 7.4016 in. (188.000 mm).

      2. Use a lathe.

        NOTE

Machining data is given for guidance only.

        Machining data

        Machine speed

        65.62 ft (20 m) per minute

        Rate of feed

        0.1in. (2.54 mm) per revolution

    3. Dress to remove the metal sprayed step from the lead in chamfer, blend to form a uniform chamfer profile.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-220-114 Examine the Rotor Center Shaft

      1. Do a visual inspection.

        1. Us a magnification glass.

        2. Visually examine the plasma sprayed area for chips, cracks, lifted material and coating that is not attached to the parent material. Surfaces that show heat cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-350-070 Identify the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Make a beehive symbol mark with the letters PS inside the beehive and mark VRS1941 adjacent to part number as shown.

        1. Make a permanent mark by the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        2. Use electrolytic permanent mark.
