The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK numbers are in the SPM.

This Repair scheme gives the procedure for plasma spraying the snap diameter of the rotor center shaft.

The use of clean gloves is necessary to carefully prevent contamination by perspiration or by salts.

NOTE

Equivalent equipment may be used.

NOTE

To identify the consumable materials refer to the PCI.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-325-055 Machine the Worn Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Locate the rotor center shaft on a lathe, set the rotor center shaft to run true. Secure the rotor center shaft.

      2. Use a lathe.

    3. Dimensionally inspect the snap diameter in order to determine material removal.

      1. Machine the snap diameter between 10.3837 in. (263.748 mm) and 10.3723 in. (263.456 mm) to remove the worn area. Break any sharp edges.

        Machining data is given for guidance only.

        NOTE

        Hold the diameter to the maximum, to allow for subsequent repairs.
        Any previous coating and damage must be removed.
        If any worn area (scores, etc) exists at the diameter 10.3723in. (263.456 mm), reject the rotor center shaft.
    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-220-145 Inspect the Rotor Center Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a visual inspection for the machined area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-21-01-220-501.

    3. Dimensionally inspect the snap diameter.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-230-064 Examine the Rotor Center Shaft for Cracks

      1. Do a crack test.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-03-230-501 or TASK 70-23-04-230-501 or TASK 70-23-08-230-501.

        2. No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-81-380-060 Shot Peen the Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply the masking tape.

        1. Apply the masking tape to the areas which are not to be given shot peen treatment.

      1. Shot peen the snap diameter to an intensity of 6A.

        1. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-04-300-503.

        2. Complete coverage is required.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-120-056 Abrasive Blast the Rotor Center Shaft

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask off areas that are not to be plasma sprayed.

      1. Abrasive blast the rotor center shaft surface to be plasma sprayed.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501.

        2. Amount of dimensional change by blasting is negligible and does not affect subsequent procedure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-340-056 Apply Plasma Spray on the Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Touch up masking if necessary.

      1. Apply plasma spray. Maximum diameter of 10.400 in. (264.16 mm) is required after plasma spraying.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-324-062 Machine the Snap Diameter

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Dimensionally inspect the snap diameter after the plasma spraying.

      NOTE

      Make sure that subsequent machined profile shall be option 1 or option 2.
      1. Machine the plasma sprayed snap diameter between 10.3900in. (263.908 mm) and 10.3881in. (263.856 mm).

      2. Use a lathe.

    4. Dress to remove the metal spray step from the lead in chamfer, blend to form a uniform chamfer profile.

      1. Visually examine the plasma sprayed area for chips, cracks, lifted material and coating that is not attached to parent material. Surfaces that show heat cracks are not permitted.

      2. Use a magnification glass.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-51-350-071 Identify the Repair

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Make a beehive symbol mark with the letters PS inside the beehive and mark VRS1943 adjacent to the part number as shown.

        1. Make a permanent mark by the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        2. Use electrolytic permanent mark.
