Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-350-090 Remove Identified Vane from the LPC Stage 1.5 Stator Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. CAUTION

BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE SURFACE OF VANE AND RING WHEN REMOVING MOLDING RUBBER.

Remove molding rubber to break the connection between vane and inner ring. Remove the identified vane from the inner ring.

      2. Use a clean, plastic chisel type tool.

      1. Remove molding rubber from AREA A and AREA B.

      2. Use a clean, plastic chisel type tool.

      1. Remove the remaining molding rubber from the remove vane if it is serviceable. Refer to Repair, VRS1765 TASK 72-32-83-300-047 (Repair-047). If the rubber is serviceable then it should be protected from possible damage during this repair by installing protective shield.

        NOTE

If abradable seal silicone rubber on inner ring is to be replaced, remove rubber after vanes are removed. New rubber should be installed and cured after new vanes are installed and bonded.
      2. Use a clean, plastic chisel type tool.

      1. Remove the remaining molding rubber from AREA A, AREA B and/or the removed vane, if the remaining rubber is not fully removed in Step or Step.

        1. Apply adhesive tape for masking to the areas which do not require removing the remaining rubber.

        1. Use dry plastic blast to remove the remaining rubber.

        2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-07-120-501.

      2. Remove adhesive tape for masking.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-110-066 Prepare the Bonding Area

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply adhesive tape for masking to the areas which do not require the molding compound.

      1. Apply dry abrasive blast to the bonding area.

    3. Remove the remaining abrasive by vacuuming or clean air blow.

    4. NOTE

After cleaning the component you must not touch it by hand and must be covered by craft paper to prevent contamination.

Dry by air for 15 minutes minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-112 Apply the Primer to the Bonding Area

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. CAUTION

THE PRIMER MUST NOT BE APPLIED TO THE SILICONE RUBBER.

Apply the primer to the bond surfaces.

      2. The primer must be applied to the metal surface only.

    3. Dry in air for 30 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-113 Make up of CoMat 08-042 Silicone Rubber Compound

      1. NOTE

When mixed, the life of the silicone rubber compound is a maximum of 1.5 hours at room temperature.

Mix 9.5 to 10.5 parts by weight of the base material with 0.8 to 1.2 parts by weight of the curing agent in 8 to 10 minutes at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C) until the material is a constant color.

      2. Use CoMat 08-042 SILICONE RUBBER COMPOUND, and a clean spatula or equivalent.

      1. Remove all the air from the mixture at 28 in. (711.2 mm) of mercury for a minimum of 15 minutes.

      2. Use the vacuum pump.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-114 Apply CoMat 08-042 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Set up the mold with the molding fixture and install the new or serviceable blade vane in position.

      1. Apply the silicone rubber compound to the mold area.

      2. Use an air pressure type injector.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-115 Cure CoMat 08-042 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Cure the silicone rubber compound at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C) for a minimum of 4 hours with the molding fixture attached.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-116 Make up of CoMat 08-036 Silicone Rubber Compound

      1. Mix the base material and the curing agent.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-04-360-501.

      1. Remove all air from the mixture.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-04-360-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-117 Apply CoMat 08-036 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Apply the silicone rubber compound to the remaining mold area.

      2. Use an air pressure type injector.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-118 Cure CoMat 08-036 Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Cure the silicone rubber compound at room temperature for 16 hours followed by being kept at 290 to 310 deg F (143 to 153 deg C) for 2 hours with the molding fixture attached.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-186 Examine the Repaired Areas
