Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-107 Remove the Damaged Vane

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. CAUTION

BE CAREFUL NOT TO DAMAGE THE SURFACE OF VANE AND RING WHEN REMOVING MOLDING RUBBER.

Remove molding rubber to break the connection between vane and inner ring.

      2. Use a clean, plastic chisel type tool.

    3. Remove the damaged vane from the inner ring. Refer to Repair, VRS1756 TASK 72-32-83-300-043 (REPAIR-043). If rubber is serviceable as is, it should be protected from possible damage during this repair by installing protective shield.

      NOTE

If abradable seal silicone rubber on inner ring is to be replaced, remove rubber after vanes are removed. New rubber should be installed and cured after new vanes are installed and bonded.
      1. Remove the remaining molding rubber from the removed vane if it is serviceable.

      2. Use a clean, plastic chisel type tool.

      1. Remove the remaining molding rubber from the inner ring and/or the removed vane, if the remaining rubber is not fully removed in Step or Step.

        1. Apply adhesive tape for masking to the areas which do not require removing the remaining rubber.

        1. Use dry plastic blast to remove the remaining rubber.

        2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-07-120-501.

      2. Remove adhesive tape for masking.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-120-061 Clean the Surfaces which are to be Applied to the Silicone Rubber Compound

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply masking tape to the areas which do not apply the molding compound.

      1. Dry abrasive blast molding areas.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-36-04-360-501.

      3. Use dry blast system cabinet.

    3. Remove remaining abrasive by vacuuming or clean air blow.

      1. Wipe and clean blasted surfaces of the vane and inner ring.

    4. NOTE

After cleaning the component must not be touched by hand and must be covered by craft paper to prevent contamination.

Air dry for 15 minutes minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-108 Apply Primer to the Moulding Surfaces after Cleaning

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply primer to the molding surfaces of vane and inner ring.

    3. Dry in air for 30 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-109 Make up of CoMat 08-042 Silicone Rubber Compound

      1. Mix 9.5 to 10.5 parts by weight of the rubber component with 0.8 to 1.2 parts by weight of the curing agent at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C).

      2. Use mass weighing scale.

    2. Remove all air in a maximum of vacuum of 28 in. (711.2 mm) of mercury for a minimum of 15 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-110 Mold the Silicone Rubber Compound (CoMat 08-042)

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Set up the mold with molding fixture and install the new vane in position.

      1. Apply the mixture into the molding areas using air pressure type injector or equivalent.

      2. Use an air pressure type injector.

    3. Cure the compound at 70 deg F to 80 deg F (21 deg C to 27 deg C) for a minimum of 4 hours with the molding fixture installed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-111 Make up of CoMat 08-036 Silicone Rubber

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mix silicone rubber compound.

      1. Remove all air from the mixture.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-04-360-501.

    3. Pour the mixture into the mold area.

      1. Cure the compound at room temperature for 18 hours followed by it being kept at 290 deg F to 310 deg F (143 deg C to 154 deg C) for 2 hours with molding fixture installed.

      2. Use batch oven.

    4. Disassemble the LPC stage 2.3 stator assembly from the molding fixture.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-183 Examine the Molded Areas

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually and dimensionally examine the molded area.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 72-36-04-360-501.
