Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-350-078-001 Remove the Damaged Abradable Seal

      NOTE

      This Step is an alternative to Step.
      1. Remove the damaged abradable seal.

      2. CAUTION

        TAKE CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THE PART.

        Use a Bamboo Spatula or similar tool.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-350-078-002 Remove the Damaged Abradable Seal

      NOTE

      This Step is an alternative to Step.
    2. CAUTION

      DO NOT REMOVE MATERIAL FROM PARENT METAL.

      Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove the damaged abradable seal.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-15-01-160-501.

      3. Make a test piece of AMS4132.

      1. Remove the remaining abradable seal, if required.

      2. CAUTION

        TAKE CARE NOT TO DAMAGE THE PART.

        Use a Bamboo Spatula or similar tool.

      1. Do a dimensional inspection.

      2. Use IAE 3J12792 Inspection stand, if necessary.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-237 Examine the Repaired Area

      1. Fluorescent penetrant examine the repair area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-380-067 Surface Treat the Repair Area

      1. Clean the repaired area.

      1. Do a chemical touch up to the surface by a brush (if required).

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-503.

      1. Clean the repair area.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    2. Air dry for 15 to 30 minutes.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-110-089 Clean the Repair Area

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply masking tape to the areas which do not require the silicone rubber compound.

      1. Apply a dry abrasive blast to the mold area.

      2. Air pressure 70 psig (5 kg/sqcm) at a distance of 6 in. (152 mm) minimum from air nozzle to the part.

      1. Remove any residual abrasive by vacuuming.

      2. CAUTION

        AFTER CLEANING, THE COMPONENT MUST NOT BE TOUCHED BY HAND AND MUST BE COVERED BY CRAFT PAPER, TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION.

        Cover the component with craft paper to prevent contamination.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-380-059 Apply Primer to the Surface after Cleaning

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. NOTE

        Store the primer in small containers for single usage only. The primer that remains in the glass bottle after coating must not be used.

        Within 30 minutes of cleaning.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      3. Apply a 0.0001 in. (0.003 mm) coat of primer to the mold surface using unsized cheese cloth.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-077 Mix the Silicon Rubber Compound

      1. CAUTION

        THIS COMPOUND HAS A GUARANTEED SHELF LIFE OF NOT LESS THAN SIX MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF SHIPMENT. A SHELF LIFE EXTENSION OF ONE MONTH CAN BE PERMITTED ON THE COMPOUND PROVIDED THE VISCOSITY CHECK IS WITHIN THE LIMITS THAT FOLLOW.
        VISCOSITY AT 70 TO 80 DEG F (22.7 TO 25.3 DEG C).
        COMPOUND AS RECEIVED: 3000 - 5000 POISES.
        COMPOUND MIXED WITH CURING AGENT: 1300 - 3500 POISES.
        COMPOUND AS RECEIVED HAS BEEN STORED AT A TEMPERATURE NOT HIGHER THAN 90 DEG F (32 DEC C). COMPOUND WHICH HAS BEEN STORED UNDER THE ABOVE CONDITIONS FOR MORE THAN SIX MONTHS SHALL BE DISCARDED.

        NOTE

        The rubber and catalyst in each kit are chemically matched and should not be mixed with components of other kits.

        Mix the silicon rubber compound.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      3. Mix the silicon rubber compound at 70 to 80 deg F (21 to 27 deg C) for 30 to 40 minutes.

    2. Mixing ratio - Rubber 95.5 to 100.5 parts by weight. Catalyst 9.8 to 10.2 parts by weight.

      1. Remove the gas from the mixture.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      3. Applying a vacuum of 25 to 50 mmHg for 30 minutes minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-078 Mold the Silicon Rubber Compound

      1. Attach the component to the molding fixture.

      1. Put the degassed silicon rubber compound into the injector.

      1. Pour the silicon rubber compound into the component with the use of the injector.

      2. Until the silicon rubber comes out from the vent port, use an injection pressure of 60 psi (4.22 kg/sqcm).

      3. When silicon rubber comes out from the vent port, use an injection pressure of 30 psi (2.11 Kg/sqcm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-360-079 Cure the Silicon Rubber Compound

    2. Remove the injector.

      1. Put the LPC mid case assembly in the oven.

      2. Use the batch oven.

      1. Cure the compound.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      3. Cure at 290 to 310 deg F (143 to 154 deg C) for one hour.

    3. Remove the component from the molding fixture.

      1. Cure the compound.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      3. Cure the removed component at 390 to 410 deg F (199 to 210 deg C) for one hour.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-161 Examine the Repaired Area

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine the repaired area.

      2. Cracks are not permitted.

      3. Bubbles are not permitted.

      4. Foreign inclusions are not permitted.

      5. Peelings are not permitted.

      6. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      1. Do a dimensional check of the diameter to the repaired area. If necessary, grind the diameter of the repaired area.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-83-200-000 (INSPECTION-000) for the applicable Inspection TASK.

      1. Do a hardness check of the repaired area at four equally spaced positions on the circumference.

      2. Use a durometer tester.

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-06-360-501.

      4. Hardness: ASTM D2240 (Durometer 'A') 52 - 65.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-83-220-162 Do a Test to the Repaired Area.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. NOTE

        The bond test shall be done to the conditions that follow:

        Do a bond test to the repaired area.

      2. Signs of a bulge or air leakage are not permitted.

    3. Inspection gas: Air or nitrogen gas.

    4. Gas pressure: 400 psi (28.1 Kg/sqcm).

      1. Inspection position; Refer to Figure.

      2. Vary the pattern as necessary to inspect the partially repaired areas.

    5. Probe angle: Approximately 45 degrees.
