Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-220-005 Check the Position of the Damaged Hole

    2. NOTE

      This repair is applicable to each damaged hole up to twice.

      NOTE

      This repair is not applicable to the hole which has been repaired by the threaded bushes M12 x 0.5 or 1/2 - 32 UN previously.

      Refer to Figure.

    3. Check and write down the hole number of the damaged hole.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-320-001 Machine the Damaged Bolthole

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the damaged bolthole and make a thread.

        1. Thread size of the machined hole must be M12 x 0.5, 7/16 - 32 UN or 1/2 - 32 UN as an oversize provided that the following.

        2. 1/2 - 32 UN oversized bush can be used for only as an oversize of 7/16 - 32 UN.

        3. If the damaged bolthole is repaired using M12 x 0.5 or 1/2 - 32 UN, this repair is not applicable anymore to the hole in future.

      2. Select the minimum machined hole size that all of the damage is fully removed.

      3. The machined hole edge must not reach to the inner surface boss edge.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-220-006 Examine the Machined Thread

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Visually examine the thread.

      2. Use 10X magnifying glass. Burrs, corrosion, nicks, dents, scratches and galls are not permitted.

    3. Dimensionally examine the thread.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-360-064 Make the Threaded Bush

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Make the threaded bush.

        1. Use AMS4132 or AMS4150 aluminum alloy.

        2. The thread size must be the same as that selected in Step 5.

      1. Visually examine the threaded bush.

      2. Use 10X magnifying glass. Burrs, corrosion, nicks, dents, scratches and galls are not permitted.

    3. Dimensionally examine the threaded bush.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-240-001 Examine the Machined Thread and the Threaded Bush for Cracks

      1. Fluorescent penetrant examine the machined thread and the threaded bush.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-060 Apply the Surface Protection to the Machined Thread and the Threaded Bush

      1. Remove the grease from the machined thread and the threaded bush.

      1. Apply chromate conversion coating to the machined thread and the threaded bush.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-002.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-360-065 Make-up of the Two Part Low Temperature Curing Sealant/Adhesive

      1. Mix resin and harder.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-004.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-360-066 Apply and Cure the Two Part Low Temperature Curing Sealant/Adhesive

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. CAUTION

        YOU MUST USE PLASTIC GLOVES DURING THE PREPARATION AND USE OF THE ADHESIVE TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE SKIN.

        CAUTION

        YOU MUST NOT EAT ANYTHING OR SMOKE AT THE LOCATIONS WHERE THESE MATERIALS ARE USED.

        CAUTION

        BONDING MUST BE DONE IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SURFACE PREPARATION.

        Remove the grease from the machined thread and the threaded bush.

      1. Apply the adhesive to the mating surface of the machined thread on the splitter fairing and thread of the bush.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-021.

        2. Use spatula.

      1. Install the threaded bush to the machined thread of the splitter fairing.

      2. Wipe off the excess adhesive from the thread using a spatula.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT SPLITTER FAIRING WITHOUT PROTECTIVE GLOVES IF THE PART IS HEATED FOR CURING.

        NOTE

        The pot life of resin/hardener mixture is about 2 hours at room temperature.

        Cure the adhesive.

        1. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-021.

        2. Cure the adhesive at 68 deg F (20 deg C) for 48 hours, or 203 to 221 deg F (95 to 105 deg C) for one hour.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-061 Blend the Surface of Installed Bush to the Round Shape

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Blend the surface of the installed bush.

        1. Surface finish on blended area should be same as that of the adjacent area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-062 Crimp the Surface of the Splitter Fairing

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Crimp the splitter fairing in two positions by applying slight punch to secure the bushing.

      2. The depth of crimp is less than 0.030 in. (0.76 mm) and the diameter is less than 0.0600 in. (1.52 mm).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-320-002 Machine the Bolthole to the Installed Bush

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Drill the bolthole to the installed bush.

    4. Countersink the hole.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-220-009 Examine the Bolthole

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Visually examine the bolthole.

      2. Use 10X magnifying glass. Burrs, corrosion, nicks, dents, scratches and galls are not permitted.

    3. Do a dimensional check on the bolthole.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-220-008 Examine the Bolthole for Cracks

      1. Fluorescent penetrant examine the bolthole.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-063 Identify the Repair

      1. Write the identity marking adjacent to the part number.

        1. Write VRS1709/U if the thread size is 7/16 - 32 UN, VRS1709/M if the thread size is M12 x 0.5 or VRS1709/OS if the thread size is 1/2 - 32 UN.

        2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

        3. Use vibro-engrave equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-350-064 Apply the Surface Protection to the Bolthole and the Marked Area

      1. Remove the grease from the machined hole and the threaded bush.

      1. Apply chromate conversion coating to the installed bush with the bolthole and the marked area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-02-300-002. Use CoMat 01-275 CHROMATE CONVERSION COATING FOR ALUMINIUM.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-93-380-053 Apply the heat resistant E.S. Coating to the Installed Bush

      1. Apply the heat resistant E.S. coating to the outer surface of the installed bush.

      1. Examine the coating surface.

      2. Refer to EM TASK 72-32-93-200-000, (72-32-93 INSPECTION-000).
