Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-350-085 Remove the Damage at the Flange of the Inlet Cone

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Remove the damaged layer on the flange.

      1. NOTE

        Remove the minimum quantity of material necessary to remove the damage.

        Make smooth and polish the repaired area.

      2. Surface finish on repaired area must be same as that of the adjacent area. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-220-189 Examine the Repaired Area

      1. Visually and dimensionally examine the repaired area.

      2. Cracks, chips, scores, galls, nicks, pits, scratches, delamination, disbond and raised fabric are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-350-086 Apply a Thin Layer of Epoxy Resin to the Repaired Surface

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT GET THE RESIN MIXTURE ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GLOVES, GOGGLES, AND A FACE MASK. USE THE RESIN IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. IF YOU GET THE RESIN ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES GET MEDICAL AID IMMEDIATELY.

        Clean the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

      1. Make up the epoxy resin.

      2. Use CoMat 08-015 RESIN and CoMat 08-016 HARDENER. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-36-02-360-501, SUBTASK 70-36-02-360-021.

      1. Apply a thin layer of epoxy resin to the repaired surface.

      2. Make sure that all exposed fibers are covered.

    2. Remove excess epoxy before curing.

    3. Cure the epoxy resin at 194 to 212 deg F (90 to 100 deg C) for one hour.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-350-087 Make Smooth and Polish the Repaired Area, if necessary

      1. Make smooth and polish the repaired area, if necessary.

      2. Surface finish on repaired area must be same as that of the adjacent area.

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-110-062 Clean the Repaired Area

      1. Clean the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-220-190 Examine the Repaired Area

      1. Visually examine the repaired area.

      2. Cracks, chips, scores, galls, nicks, pits, scratches, delamination, disbond and raised fabric are not permitted. Make sure the applied epoxy is not over-flush to the original surfaces.

    1. SUBTASK 72-38-11-350-088 Identify the Repair

      1. Mark VRS1507 adjacent to the part number by the ink method.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-01-400-501.
