Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-220-059 Do the Pre Repair Inspection

      1. Examine the front inner diameter.

      2. Refer to Figure.

    2. If the diameter is more than 12.512 in. (317.805 mm) and 12.530 in. (318.262 mm) or less, do the plasma spray repair.

    3. If the diameter is more than 12.530 in. (318.262 mm) reject the rear drum disk assembly.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-320-051 Machine the Front Inner Diameter

    2. Install the disk assembly in the IAE 3P16263 Machine fixture 1 off.

      1. Set-up and machine the front inner diameter to between 12.518 and 12.530 in. (317.96 and 318.26 mm). Hold to the minimum diameter.

        1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

        2. The full indicator reading must be 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) or less in relation to Diameters B and D.

        3. If necessary machine the chamfer to make sure the minimum coating is 0.003 in. (0.076 mm) thick after the plasma spray machining is done.

        4. See the Figure for the surface finish requirement.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-230-054 Do a Crack Test on the Front Inner Diameter

      1. Do a penetrant test on the front inner diameter.

        1. Refer to Figure.

        2. Do the penetrant procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-23-04-230-501 (dip or spray).

        3. No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-380-051 Shot Peen the Front Inner Diameter

      1. Shot peen the front inner diameter to an intensity of 4A to 6A (No masking permitted when you do the shot peen).

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-13-380-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-340-051 Plasma Spray the Front Inner Diameter

      1. Moderately clean or vapor degrease the disk assembly.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503 or SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503.

      4. After the cleaning, handle the part with clean CoMat 02-097 LINT-FREE GLOVES.

      5. Wipe remaining solvent from the part with a clean lint free cloth.

      1. Mask the disk assembly.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Mask the areas given in the Figure.

      4. This also includes the radius adjacent to the front inner diameter. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-38-24-300-503.

      1. Grit blast the repair area.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Grit blast the repair area to get a constant rough surface.

      4. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-12-09-120-501.

      1. Plasma spray the front inner diameter.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Apply the plasma spray to a sufficient thickness which will permit the final machining of the 12.510 to 12.512 in. (317.754 to 317.804 mm) diameter.

      4. The maximum thickness of plasma spray to be applied is 0.015 in. (0.381 mm).

      5. Do the procedure given in the SPM TASK 70-34-03-340-501.

      6. No overspray permitted.

      1. Set-up and machine the front inner diameter to between 12.510 and 12.512 in (317.754 and 317.804 mm).

        1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

        2. The runout must be 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) FIR in relation to Diameters B and D.

        3. The minimum plasma spray coating thickness is 0.003 in. (0.076 mm).

        4. See the figure for the surface finish requirement.

    2. Remove the machine fixture.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-220-060 Examine the Repair

      1. Visually examine the coated area for chips, cracks, lifted material and coating that is not attached to the base metal. Surfaces that show heat cracks are not acceptable.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Use a 7X magnification glass or less.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-12-350-052 Identify the Repair

      1. Make a beehive symbol mark with the letters PS inside the beehive and mark VRS3443 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Make a permanent mark by the procedures given in the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

      4. Use the shallow etch method.

      5. See the Figure for the electrical contact area.

      6. No burning, pitting or selective attack permitted from the electrical contact.
