This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in TASK 72-41-23Inspection/Check Page 801.

This Repair is to replace the lining on the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing, when the lining is worn or damaged.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK/SUBTASK numbers are in the SPM.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-110-066 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-41-23-100-000 (CLEANING-000).

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-230-073 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-41-23-200-000 (INSPECTION-000).

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-110-067 Remove the Lining

      NOTE

      This SUBTASK is an alternative to Step.
    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Chemically degrade the lining at surface AA.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-59-300-503, SUBTASK 70-33-59-300-007.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Abrasive blast to remove the lining.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-59-300-503, SUBTASK 70-33-59-300-008.

        Use CoMat 05-001 ABRASIVE MEDIUM, ALUMINIUM OXIDE, 20/30 GRADE with abrasive blast equipment :epl2.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-325-052 Remove the Lining

      NOTE

      This SUBTASK is an alternative to Step.
    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Install the turn/grind fixture on to the machine and set to run true.

      2. Use a lathe and a dial test indicator.

      1. Install the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing on to the fixture.

      2. Make sure the rear seal housing runs true.

      1. Turn to remove the lining from the surface AA.

      2. You must not remove any material from the rear seal housing.

        Use a lathe with standard workshop equipment.

      1. Remove sharp edges.

      2. Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-220-123 Examine the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Visually examine the surface at AA.

      2. Make sure all the lining material is removed.

      1. Measure the dimensions of the surface at AA.

      2. Make sure that the base material of the rear seal housing is not below the limits given.

        Use workshop inspection equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-230-074 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a penetrant crack test on the machined areas.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-110-068 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-120-053 Prepare the Surfaces for Repair

      CAUTION

      SURFACES FOR REPAIR MUST BE FULLY CLEANED AND NOT TOUCHED BY HAND.
      CLEAN COTTON OR POLYTHENE GLOVES MUST BE WORN.
    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Seal the areas not to be sprayed.

      1. Abrasive blast the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing on surface AA.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-12-02-120-501.

    3. Remove the masking tape and/or masks.

      1. Clean the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing.

      2. Make sure that all the abrasive grit has been removed.

        Use a dry air blast or a vacuum assisted brush.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-340-052 Apply the Lining

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Seal the areas not to be sprayed.

      1. Apply the lining.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501, SUBTASK 70-34-01-340-026.

        Apply a layer of sufficient thickness to get the correct dimensions after the assembly is machined.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-220-124 Examine the Lining

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine and measure the dimensions of the new lining.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-34-01-340-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-324-052 Machine the Lining

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Install the turn/grind fixture on to the machine and set to run true.

      2. Use IAE 3R19029 Turn/Grind fixture 1 off, with a grinding machine.

        Use a dial test indicator.

      1. Install the HP Compressor Rear Seal Housing on to the fixture.

      2. Make sure the rear seal housing runs true.

    3. Fully grind the lining at surface AA, to the dimensions shown.

      1. Remove sharp edges.

      2. Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-220-125 Examine the Repair Area

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine and measure the dimensions at surface AA.

      2. Use workshop inspection equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-23-230-075 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test on the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

        Ignore crack indications in the metal spray area.
