This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 72-41-31 Inspection-002.

This Repair replaces the Stage 4 and Stage 6 Segment Anti-Rotation Stop Pin(s) in the HP Compressor Front Case Assembly.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-350-088 Remove the Anti-Rotation Stop Pin(s)

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT.

        CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT - DO NOT USE FORCE WITH MECHANICAL CUTTERS OR THE MATERIAL WILL BECOME TOO HOT.

        CAUTION

        TITANIUM COMPONENT - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR, TO DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.

        Remove the damaged anti-rotation stop pin(s) from the HP Compressor front case assembly.

      2. Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. Remove sharp edges or burrs around the location hole(s).

      2. Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-160-051 Clean the Location Hole(s)

      1. Clean the location hole(s).

      2. Use a soft clean cloth and blast with air.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-110-088 Do a Swab Etch

      1. Chemically clean the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-001.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Swab etch the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-08-300-503, SUBTASK 70-11-08-300-002.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-230-088 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test around the location hole(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-210-051 Examine the HP Compressor Front Case Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Examine the HP Compressor front case assembly around the location hole(s) for crack indications.

        1. Use X7 or X10 binoculars.

        2. Reject if cracked.

      1. Visually examine and measure the dimensions of the location hole(s).

        1. Hole diameter(s) between 0.236 in. - 0.237 in. (5.99 mm - 6.01 mm).

        2. Accept.

        1. Hole diameter(s) larger than in Step.

        2. Weld repair per Repair, VRS3861 TASK 72-41-31-300-023 (REPAIR-023).

        1. Make sure you can get an interference fit of 0.00008 in. to 0.00126 in. (0.002 mm to 0.032 mm) on the hole diameter.

        2. Use workshop inspection equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-350-089 Install the Anti-Rotation Stop Pin(s)

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      1. Freeze the pin(s).

        1. Use the appropriate part number for Stage 4 and/or Stage 6 pin(s).

        2. Freeze the pin(s) to -30 degrees F.

        3. Use CoMat 03-026 LIQUID NITROGEN, with standard workshop equipment.

        4. Use heat protective gloves.

      1. Install the anti-rotation stop pin(s) in the location hole(s) in the HP Compressor front case assembly.

      2. Make sure the pin(s) are pushed fully into position correctly.

        Allow the parts to reach room temperature.

        Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-220-212 Examine the HP Compressor Front Case Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Visually examine the anti-rotation stop pin(s) for location.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-230-089 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test around the location hole(s).

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-110-089 Clean the Repair Area(s)

      1. Chemically clean the repair areas of the HP Compressor front case assembly to remove the fluorescent penetrant.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-31-350-090 Identify the Repair

      1. Make a mark VRS6624 adjacent to the assembly number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.

        Use vibro-engraving equipment.
