Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-220-118 Make sure the Variable Stator Vanes can be Glass Bead Peened

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Examine the vane spindle to find if VRS6044 has been completed before (look for the repair identification symbol).

      2. If the repair identification symbol and /2 is engraved adjacent to the part number, the vane cannot be glass bead peened.

    3. Examine the vanes to make sure all necessary repairs have been completed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-110-066 Clean the Variable Stator Vanes

      1. Chemically clean the vanes.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503.

        Use chemical cleaning equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-41-32-120-052 Dry Abrasive Blast the Variable Stator Vanes to Remove Dressing or Etch Marks

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Apply masking tape to the vane spindle and areas not to be abrasive blasted.

      1. Dry abrasive blast the vane airfoil to remove dressing or etch marks.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-04-300-503, SUBTASK 70-38-04-300-001.

        NOTE

A surface finish of 40 to 80 micro in., (1.0 to 2.0 microns) has to be achieved.
    3. Remove the masking tape.
