TASK 72-41-34-300-008 HPC Stage 5 Unison Ring Connector Bridges - Blend Repair, Repair-008 (VRS6198)
General
This repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in TASK 72-41-34 (INSPECTION/CHECK).
The HP compressor stage 5 bridge piece assembly, repaired to this procedure must be as near as possible to their initial shape and surface condition.
The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK/SUBTASK number are in the SPM.
Refer to VRS6202, TASK 72-41-34-300-027 (REPAIR-027) for the procedure to replace any damaged bushes.

Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
The maximum depth to remove the damage must not be more than 0.005 in. (0.13 mm).
The diameter of the area removed must be 50 times its depth.
Use standard workshop equipment.
Remove area(s) of damage as necessary.
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
Make sure the damage marks are fully removed and the area is made smooth to the adjacent material.
Use standard workshop equipment.
Blend to smooth the damage area(s).
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.
Polish the repaired area to remove the scratches and to give a surface finish the same as the adjacent material.
Polish the repaired area(s).
SUBTASK 72-41-34-350-052 Remove the Damage

CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST USE SILICON CARBIDE TYPE ABRASIVE WHEELS, STONES AND PAPERS TO DRESS, BLEND AND POLISH THIS COMPONENT.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - DO NOT USE FORCE WITH MECHANICAL CUTTERS OR THE MATERIAL WILL BECOME TOO HOT.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - MAXIMUM SPEED FOR MECHANICAL TOOLS MUST NOT BE MORE THAN 1000 REVOLUTIONS PER MINUTE.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - YOU MUST MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU REMOVE MATERIAL, BLEND AND POLISH, TO MAKE SMOOTH, NO SPARKS ARE PRODUCED.
CAUTION
TITANIUM COMPONENT - IF THE MATERIAL SHOWS A CHANGE IN COLOR, TO A DARKER THAN A LIGHT STRAW COLOR, THE COMPONENT IS TO BE REJECTED.Refer to Figure.
SUBTASK 72-41-34-220-182 Examine the Repair

Swab etch the repaired area(s).
SUBTASK 72-41-34-110-136 Do a Swab Etch
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.
Use CoMat 06-063 FLUORESCENT PENETRANT (POST-EMULSIFIED MEDIUM SENSITIVITY) with penetrant crack test equipment.
Cracks are not permitted.
Do a local penetrant crack test of the repaired area(s).
