General

This TASK gives the procedure to clean the No. 4 bearing cooling tube. For the other parts of the No. 4 bearing compartment tubes, refer to Cleaning-000 TASK 72-42-20-100-100.

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK numbers are in the SPM.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants, refer to the IPC.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-20-110-081 Remove the Grease and Oil

      1. Remove the grease and oil. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      1. Degrease parts by aqueous cleaning.

      2. Clean the outside of the tube only.

    2. SUBTASK 72-42-20-110-144 Remove the Rust and Carbon

      1. Remove the rust and carbon. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-13-300-503.

      1. Cleaning of components (long soak, for cobalt and nickel base alloys and heat and non-corrosion resistant steels).

      2. You can flush the inside of the tube with a solution given in SPM TASK 70-11-13-300-503.

      3. Do not put the tube fully into the solution.

    3. SUBTASK 72-42-20-160-052-001 Remove Carbon from the Tube Inner Diameter

      1. Remove carbon from tube Inner Diameter. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-52-110-501.
