General

This task gives the procedure for the inspection of the thrust balance seal vent tubes. For the other part of the no.4 bearing compartment tubes, refer to inspection-000TASK 72-42-20-200-100.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC.

The policy that is necessary for inspection is given in the spm TASK 70-20-01-200-501.

All the parts must be cleaned before any part is examined. Refer to SPM TASK 70-10-00-100-501.

All Parts Must Be Visually Examined For Damage, Corrosion And Wear. Any Defects That Are Not Identified In The Procedure Must Be Referred To Iae.

The procedure for those parts which must have a crack test is given in Step and Step. do the test before the part is visually examined.

Do Not Discard Any Part Until You Are Sure There Are No Repairs Available. Refer To The Instructions In Repair Before A Discarded Part Is Used Again Or Oversize Parts Are Installed.

Parts which should be discarded can be held although no repair is available. The repair of a discarded part could be shown to be necessary at a later date.

All parts must be examined to make sure that all the repairs have been completed satisfactorily.

    2. Clean the part. Refer to the cleaning -000 TASK 72-42-20-100-100.

      1. do the test for cracks on the part that is given below. use the applicable penetrant procedure.

        1. Thrust balance seal vent tubes (dip or spray), Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-01-230-501.

          1. unlimited number of pits not more than 0.001 in. (0.025 mm) in depth, 0.062 in. (1.57 mm) in length and 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) in width.

          2. Accept

          1. Maximum of three pits for each 2.00 in. (50.8 mm) length of tubing; not more than 0.003 in. (0.075 mm) in depth, 0.062 in. (1.57 mm) in length, 0.010 in. (0.25 mm) in width and no other dents within 0.125 in. (3.175 mm).

          2. Accept

      1. Examine the tubes at location 2, for wear on the inside diameter of the sleeve end.

        1. Wear

          1. Up to 0.005 in. (0.127 mm) in depth or around the sleeve end inside diameter.

          2. Accept

          1. Other Than Step.

    1. subtask 72-42-20-220-068 EXAMINE THE THRUST BALANCE SEAL VENT TUBES (07-001) FOR LEAKS

    2. Install IAE 2P16256 Pressure test adapter 1 off onto the tube connector. Attach standard pressure test equipment to the adapter.

    3. Install IAE 2P16257 Pressure test plug 1 off onto the opposite end of the tube.

      1. Do A Pressure Test At 25 Psig (172,37 Kpa) With Clean Air And COMAT 10-045 LEAK CHECK FLUID, BUBBLES-TYPE.

        1. LEAKS.

        2. Reject

    4. Remove The Pressure Test Plug And The Pressure Test Adapter From The Ends Of The Tube.
