General

This TASK gives the procedure for the inspection of the No. 4 bearing nozzle housing.

Fig./item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC.

The policy that is necessary for inspection is given in the SPM TASK 70-20-00-200-501.

All the parts must be cleaned before any part is examined. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-10-00-100-501.

All parts must be visually examined for damage, corrosion and wear. Any defects that are not identified in the procedure must be referred to IAE.

Do not discard any part until you are sure there are no repairs available. Refer to the instructions in Repair before a discarded part is used again or oversize parts are installed.

Parts which should be discarded can be held although no repair is available. The repair of a discarded part could be shown to be necessary at a later date.

All parts must be examined to make sure that all the repairs have been completed satisfactorily.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-34-220-051 Examine the No. 4 Bearing Nozzle Housing (01-010) for Damage, Nicks, Dents, High Metal and Nozzle Blockage

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Examine the housing for damage, nicks, dents, high metal and nozzle blockage.

        1. Damage, nicks or dents.

        2. Accept.

        1. High metal on the mating surface at Location 1

        2. Reject.

        1. Nozzle blockage at Locations 4 and 5

        2. Do an oil flow of the No. 4 bearing nozzle assembly. Refer to Step and Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-34-710-051 Examine the No. 4 Bearing Nozzle Housing (01-010) for the Oil Flow of the No. 4 Bearing Nozzle Assembly

      NOTE

      Do the subsequent steps only if you found damage, nicks, dents, or blockage during visual inspection.
    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Install the No. 4 bearing nozzle housing in the IAE 1P16074 Oil flow fixture 1 off.

      1. Use IAE 1P16074 Oil flow fixture to examine the housing at location 2 for the oil flow of the No. 4 bearing nozzle assembly.

      2. Use CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL or CoMat 10-040 LUBRICANT (ENGINE OIL) at 99 to 100 psig (682.58 to 689.48 kPa) and 195 to 205 deg F (90.6 to 96.1 deg C). The flow must be 32.5 to 35.5 pounds per minute (14.742 to 16.103 kilograms per minute).

        1. Oil flow.

          1. If a minimum of 95 percent of the flow goes through a 0.470 in. (11.94 mm) diameter circle. The center of the circle must be on the axis of the diameter at Location 3 and 3.0 in. (76.2 mm) from Surface A.

          2. Accept.

          1. Other than Step.

          2. Reject.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-34-710-052 Examine the No. 4 Bearing Nozzle Housing (01-010) for the Oil Flow of the No. 4 Bearing Nozzle

      NOTE

      Do the subsequent steps only if you found damage, nicks, dents or blockage during visual inspection.
    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Use the IAE 1P16074 Oil flow fixture 1 off, to examine the housing at Location 4 for the oil flow of the No. 4 bearing nozzle.

      2. Use CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL or CoMat 10-040 LUBRICANT (ENGINE OIL) at 99 to 100 psig (682.58 to 689.48 kPa) and 195 to 205 deg F (90.6 to 96.1 deg C). The flow must be 14.0 to 16.0 pounds per minute (6.350 to 7.257 kilograms per minute).

        1. Oil flow.

          1. If a minimum of 95 percent of the flow goes through 0.300 in. (7.62 mm) diameter circle. The center of the circle must be on the axis of the diameter at Location 5 and 1.300 in. (33.02 mm) from Surface C

          2. Accept.

          1. Other than Step.

          2. Reject.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-34-710-053 Examine the No. 4 Bearing Oil Nozzle Housing (01-010) for loose or missing pins - Post SB 72-0629

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Examine for loose or missing pins.

        1. No loose pin.

        2. Accept.

        1. Loose or missing pin.

        2. Reject.

      1. Examine the pin protrusion distance.

        1. Between 0.120 in. - 0.140 in. (3.048 mm - 3.556 mm).

        2. Accept.
