Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-50-350-063 Remove the Damaged Outer Seal Carrier Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure

      1. Make a mark to give correct radial location of parts.

      2. Use standard workshop equipment.

      1. Grind off the rivets which hold the outer seal carrier to the support cone.

      2. Use a hand grinder.

    3. Remove the outer seal carrier.

    2. Refer to Figure

      1. Measure the diameter of the rivet holes in the support cone.

      2. Mark the location of any damaged holes.

      1. Drill damaged rivet holes in the support cone for the larger rivet(s), as necessary.

      2. Use vertical drilling machine.

      1. Remove sharp edges from the rivet holes.

      2. Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-50-230-063 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test of the drilled hole(s).

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

        Use penetrant crack test equipment.

        Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-42-50-323-054-A00 Drill Rivet Holes in the Outer Seal Carrier Assembly, Assembly A

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure

      1. Install the outer seal carrier and support cone on the vertical drilling machine.

      2. Use seal, assembly of outer carrier, 01-145, 1 off.

        Use a dial test indicator and vertical drilling machine.

      1. Drill two rivet holes diagonally opposite in the outer seal carrier, spot drilled through the support cone.

      2. Refer to Figure.

        Use the correct diameter drills for the usual or larger rivets as necessary.

      1. Temporarily safety the outer seal carrier to the support cone.

      2. Use 0.1314 in. (3.3375 mm) or 0.1629 in. (4.1375 mm) diameter bolts as necessary.

      1. Drill the remainder of the rivet holes.

      2. Use the support cone as the drilling template.

    3. Remove the outer seal carrier and support cone from the vertical drilling machine.

    4. Remove the bolts and disassemble the outer seal carrier from the support cone.

      1. Remove sharp edges from the rivet holes.

      2. Use standard workshop tools.

      1. Install the outer seal carrier and support cone on the vertical drilling machine.

      1. Put the rivets in the rivet holes as necessary and cut to length.

      2. Use rivet solid, universal head 01-123, 48 off, head 01-124, 48 off, as necessary.

        Cut the rivets to dimension AL.

        Use standard worksop equipment.

        Use standard workshop tools.

      1. Hot squeeze the rivets.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-39-02-390-501.

        Use hot squeeze riveting electrodes with resistance welding machine.

        NOTE

        Use low voltage for the minimum quantity of heat required to give the rivet the correct shape.
