SUBTASK 72-44-20-110-054 Clean the Repair Area of the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly
Refer to Figure.
Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-09-120-501 or SPM TASK 70-12-02-120-501.
Abrasive blast the repair area.
SUBTASK 72-44-20-120-053 Abrasive Blast the Repair Area

CAUTION
DO NOT ABRASIVE BLAST ON COATING THAT YOU APPLIED BY THE SPM TASK 70-34-03-340-501 UNLESS SPECIFIED BY VRS3158, TASK 72-44-20-300-018 (REPAIR-018, PAGE-901).Refer to Figure.
Use an Austenitic stainless wire brush.
Clean the area to be weld repaired and 0.100 in. (2.54 mm) beyond the repair area in all directions.
NOTE
Use small diameter wire to keep heat input to a minimum and to decrease the possibility of cracking because of heat.Use CoMat 03-243 WELDING FILLER WIRE and the manual gas tungsten (GTAW-MA) method or the manual plasma arc weld (PAW-MA) method.
Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.
Use weld techniques that keep heat input to a minimum.
Weld to build up the anti-rotation slot.
SUBTASK 72-44-20-310-055 Weld to Build Up the Worn Anti-Rotation Slot of the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly
Do not let the part become cool too quickly.
You can use slow heating and cooling cycles to keep distortion to a minimum.
NOTE
You can do the stress relief at the same time as VRS3034 TASK 72-44-20-300-024 (REPAIR-024).Stress relieve the vane assembly at 1500 plus or minus 25 deg F (815.6 plus or minus 14 deg C) for four hours after welding.
