Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-20-110-055 Clean the Repair Area of the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Clean the repair area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-20-120-054 Abrasive Blast the Repair Area

      CAUTION

DO NOT ABRASIVE BLAST ON COATING THAT YOU APPLIED BY SPM TASK 70-34-03-340-501 UNLESS SPECIFIED BY VRS3158, TASK 72-44-20-300-018 (72-44-20, REPAIR-018, PAGE 901.
    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Abrasive blast the repair area.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-20-310-056 Weld to Build Up the Worn Anti-Rotation Slot of the Stage 1 HPT vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Clean the repair area to be weld repaired and 0.100 in. (2.54 mm) beyond the repair area in all directions.

      2. Use an austenitic stainless wire brush.

      1. Weld to build up the anti-rotation slot.

      2. NOTE

Use small diameter wire to keep heat input to a minimum and to decrease the possibility of cracking because of heat.

Use CoMat 03-243 WELDING FILLER WIRE and manual gas tungsten (GTAW-MA) method or the manual arc weld (PAW-MA) method.

      3. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      4. Use weld techniques that keep heat input to a minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-20-370-053 Stress Relieve the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly

      1. NOTE

You can do the stress relief at the same time as VRS3638 TASK 72-44-20-300-038 (REPAIR-038).

Stress relieve the vane assembly at 1500 plus or minus 25 deg. F (815.6 plus or minus 14 deg C) for four hours after welding.

      2. Use an argon or a vacuum protective atmosphere.

      3. Do not let the part become cool too quickly.

      4. You can use slow heating and cooling cycles to keep distortion to a minimum.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-20-320-055 Finish Machine or Blend the Weld Repaired Area of the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine or blend the weld repaired area to the dimensions given in the figure.

      2. If necessary, remove material from the welded side to maintain the minimum dimension, except where blending is specified.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-20-230-058 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspect the Repaired Area of the Stage 1 HPT Vane Assembly

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the repaired area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-23-08-230-501.
