CAUTION

DO NOT REPLACE METERING PLUGS ON THE STAGE 1 TURBINE ROTOR ASSEMBLY THAT HAS INCORPORATED SB 72-0511. POST SB 72-0511 STAGE 1 TURBINE ROTOR ASSEMBLY DOES NOT REQUIRE METERING PLUGS.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-11-350-072 Remove all the Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plugs

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove and discard all of the Stage 1 HPT metering plugs HPT Stage 1 Hub (72-45-11, 01-040).

      1. If the metering plugs are missing, damaged and or have missing or cracked tangs, inspect the No. 4 bearing rear carbon seal. Refer to TASK 72-43-20-200-002. Report all findings to IAE Technical Services.

    2. SUBTASK 72-45-11-110-059 Clean the Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plug Holes

    1. CAUTION

      DO NOT REPLACE METERING PLUGS ON THE STAGE 1 TURBINE ROTOR ASSEMBLY THAT HAS INCORPORATED SB 72-0511. POST SB 72-0511 STAGE 1 TURBINE ROTOR ASSEMBLY DOES NOT REQUIRE METERING PLUGS.

      Refer to Figure.

      2. Clean the Stage 1 HPT hub metering plug holes HPT Stage 1 Hub (72-45-11, 01-011).

      1. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    3. SUBTASK 72-45-11-220-115 Examine the Stage 1 Turbine Hub Metering Plug Hole (PN 2A2201, 01-011)

      NOTE

      For Stage 1 HPT Hub PN 2A2201 HPT Stage 1 Hub (72-45-11, 01-011), do the procedure as mentioned in Step and Step for replacing the metering plugs.
      For Stage 1 HPT Hub PNs 2A2801 and 2A5001 HPT Stage 1 Hub (72-45-11, 01-011), do the procedure as mentioned in Step and Step for replacing the metering plugs.

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. If the hole diameter is between 0.373 in. to 0.383 in. (9.47 mm to 9.73 mm).

      1. Accept this dimension to installing the metering plug, PN 2A3182.

      3. Other than the dimension of Step.

      1. Contact IAE Technical Services.

    4. SUBTASK 72-45-11-350-073 Install New Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plugs (PN 2A3182, 01-040)

      CAUTION

      DO NOT USE THE OLD METERING PLUGS AGAIN. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL ONLY NEW METERING PLUGS.

      CAUTION

      FAILURE TO CORRECTLY INSTALL STAGE 1 HPT METERING PLUGS CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure, and Figure.

      2. Install the new Stage 1 metering plugs into inner side of Stage 1 turbine hub holes.

        1. Install 24 metering plugs.

        1. Use IAE 1P16495 Installation Fixture as shown in Figure or IAE 1P17763 Metering plug drift as shown in Figure to seat the metering plugs in the holes of the hub.

        2. Make sure the metering plug tangs touch the outer side of the hub hole.

    5. SUBTASK 72-45-11-220-116 Examine the Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plug Hole (PNs 2A2801, 2A5001, 01-011)

      NOTE

      Measure the diameter at the outer 25 percent of the hole as shown in Figure.

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. If the hole diameter is between 0.379 in. to 0.383 in. (9.63 mm to 9.73 mm).

      1. Accept this dimension for installing the metering plug, PN 2A3847.

      3. If the hole diameter is greater than 0.383 in. (9.73 mm) and less than or equal to 0.387 in. (9.83 mm).

      1. Accept this dimension for select fit only. The metering plug PN 2A3847 should have the limits as shown in Table to have tight fit requirements of 0.004 in. (0.10 mm) minimum.

      4. Other than the dimensions of Step or Step.

        1. If one hole of the 24 metering plug holes does not meet the requirements of either Step or Step.

        1. Identify the hole location.

        2. Assembly requirements will allow one metering plug not to be installed if the hole diameter is out of limits.

        3. Record this in the Engine Build Records.

        2. If more than one hole of the 24 metering plug holes does not meet the requirements of either Step or Step.

        1. Contact IAE Technical Services.

    6. SUBTASK 72-45-11-350-074 Install the New Stage 1 HPT Hub Metering Plugs (PN 2A3847, 01-040)

      CAUTION

      DO NOT USE THE OLD METERING PLUGS AGAIN. MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL ONLY NEW METERING PLUGS.

      CAUTION

      FAILURE TO CORRECTLY INSTALL STAGE 1 HPT METERING PLUGS CAN RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

      2. Install the new Stage 1 metering plugs into inner side of Stage 1 turbine hub holes.

        1. Install 23 or 24 metering plugs, as required.

        1. Use IAE 1P16495 Installation Fixture as shown in Figure or IAE 1P17763 Metering plug drift as shown in Figure to seat the metering plugs in the holes of the hub.

        2. Make sure the metering plug tangs touch the outer side of the hub hole as shown in Figure.

    7. SUBTASK 72-45-11-220-117 Examine the Repair

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

      2. Inspect the installed metering plugs.

      1. Make sure the metering plug tangs touch the outer side of the hub hole as shown in Figure.
