Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-23-110-059 Clean the Damaged Stage 1 HPT Band Segment

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Moderately clean the band segment to remove debris and fragments.

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-23-220-088 Examine the Damaged Stage 1 HPT Band Segment

      1. Fluorescent penetrant inspect the band.

      1. Grind to remove the damage in area 1 only.

      2. Refer to Figure.

    2. Fluorescent penetrant inspect again. Grind as necessary until the band is acceptable by fluorescent penetrant inspection.

      1. Examine the locations and dimensions of area 1 where the material was removed.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      1. The areas that had the damage removed plus an additional 0.002 - 0.003 in. (0.051 - 0.076 mm) of material to a maximum depth of 0.006 in. (0.152 mm).

      2. Accept.

      1. The areas that had more than the depth of 0.006 in. (0.152 mm) material removed.

      2. Refer to Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-23-310-001 Weld Repair the Band

    2. Refer to: Figure

      1. Weld repair the prepared areas.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

      1. Finish the weld 0.005 in. (0.127 mm) above the base material.

      2. Refer to Figure.

Blend by the SPM TASK 70-35-21-350-501.

      1. Locally stress-relieve the liner after weld repair.

      2. Refer to Step.

      1. Cold work the band to restore the form, if necessary.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Stress-relieve all of the band again, if it was cold worked.

      2. Refer to Step.

    1. SUBTASK 72-45-23-370-002 Stress-Relieve the Stage 1 HPT Band Segment

      NOTE

Stress-relief at temperatures higher than 1200 deg F (648.9 deg C) of finish machined steel, nickel and cobalt alloy parts must be done in a suitable protective atmosphere or must be followed by a suitable acid cleaning or descaling. Cooling rates must be selected to minimize distortion.

      NOTE

When the SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501 and/or Cycle No. 12A is specified, you can use either the SPM TASK 70-37-29-370-501/Cycle No. 12 or SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501/Cycle No. 12A.
      1. Put the part in a cool, 500 deg F (260 deg C) maximum furnace.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-04-370-501 for the atmosphere and the SPM TASK 70-37-01-370-501 for stress relief.

    2. Heat to 600 deg F (315.6 deg C) and hold it for 30 minutes.

    3. Heat to 800 deg F (427 deg C) and hold it for 30 minutes.

    4. Heat to 1000 deg F (538 deg C) and hold it for 30 minutes.

    5. Heat to 1200 deg F (649 deg C) and hold it for 30 minutes.

    6. Heat to 1325 - 1375 deg F (718 - 746 deg C) and hold it for four hours.

    7. Slowly decrease the temperature to 1175 to 1225 deg F (635 to 663 deg C) at a rate of 100 deg F (56 deg C) for each hour and hold for a time which, together with cooling time from 1350 deg F (732 deg C), totals three hours.

    8. Decrease the temperature of the part to 500 deg F (260 deg C) not faster than 100 deg F (56 deg C) each 15 minutes. Subsequent temperature decrease rate optional.
