  1. If repair of pre-twist per VRS4304 TASK 72-50-32-300-037 (REPAIR-037) is also required, then do VRS4304 first, before start of this repair.

  2. Before start of repair, record the stage 5 turbine blade manufacturing code part number, heat code, blade life figure and serial number, if marked on the blade.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-110-118 Clean the Stage 5 Turbine Blade

      1. Clean the blade.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-310-069 Weld Build-Up Repair the Worn Surfaces

      1. Tungsten inert gas weld build-up the worn surfaces.

      2. Refer to Figure and the SPM TASK 70-31-08-310-501.

        Build up sufficient material to do last machining.

        Electrical contact is permitted in area A4.

        No burning, pitting or selective attack is permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-220-307 Examine the Welded Areas

      1. Examine the hardness of weld nugget.

      2. Rockwell 40 HRC minimum or equivalent is required.

      1. Visually examine.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-08-310-501 for weld acceptance limits.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-320-084 Machine the Welded Areas

      1. Machine the welded areas.

      1. Remove the weld to the original contours on the inner and outer surfaces.

      2. Refer to Figure for dimensions.

      1. Remove burrs and sharp edges.

      2. Refer to Figure for dimensions and the affected areas.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-220-308 Examine the Repaired Outer Shroud Hardfacing

      1. Visually examine the hardfacing.

      2. The extension of linear discontinuites to any edge is not permitted.

      1. Dimensionally examine the hardfaced areas.

      2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-370-083 Heat Treat after Machining

      1. Heat treat the stage 5 turbine blade.

      2. Heating and cooling rate to be maximum 40 deg F (22 deg C) per minute.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-230-135 Examine the Stage 5 Turbine Blade for Cracks after Heat Treatment

      1. Do the test for cracks.

      2. The maximum permitted length of discontinuities is 0.016 in. (0.4 mm) in the repaired areas.

      1. Clean the blade.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-380-080 Shot-Peen the Surface A1 of the Stage 5 Turbine Blade

      1. Mask the turbine blade surface in area A3.

      1. Shot-peen area A1.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-04-300-503.

        Use CoMat 05-030 CAST STEEL SHOT DELETED to an intensity of 6A.

        Minimum shot-peening is permitted in area A2.

        Refer to Figure.

      1. Remove all masking.

      2. Remove all the tape.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-32-220-309 Examine the Blade Markings

      1. Examine the markings of the stage 5 turbine blade manufacturing code, part number, heat code and serial number.

      2. If you cannot read any of these, make new marks.

        Use the roll stamp method.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.

      1. Examine the marking of the stage 5 turbine blade life.

      2. If you can not read this marking, make a new mark.

        Use the vibro-peen method.

        Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.
