Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-350-217 Blend to Remove Damage in the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Blend to locally remove damage and to make the area smooth.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-35-21-350-501. Remove the minimum quantity of material.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-139 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do a local fluorescent penetrant inspection of the case.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-120-063 Clean the Areas of the Turbine Exhaust Case to be Repaired

      1. Prepare the areas to be welded.

      2. Mechanically clean the areas to get a bright metal finish. Use a rotary austenitic stainless steel wire brush or a silicon carbide abrasive wheel.

      1. Clean the surface fully to be welded and the adjacent heat-affected area.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-310-085 Weld to Repair the Damage in the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Weld build-up the damaged area.

      2. Use CoMat 03-378 WELDING WIRE and the GTAW method.

Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-320-174 Machine the Repaired Area of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Restore the bolt holes.

      1. Machine the welded area on the rear inner flange.

      2. Use the face that is on the part as a guide.

The finished weld must be 0.000 to 0.010 in. (0.00 to 0.25 mm) above the parent material on all sides. The flange must be 0.157 to 0.167 in. (4.00 to 4.24 mm) thick in the repaired area. Do not remove the parent material that is on the part.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-370-102 Stress-Relieve the Turbine Exhaust Case (Locally)

      1. Locally stress relieve the case.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-37-13-370-501, Cycle 6A.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-264 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case for Hardness

      1. Do a hardness check in the area adjacent to the weld repair.

      2. The hardness must be Rocckwell C30 to 38.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-230-140 Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection of the Turbine Exhaust Case

    2. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. Do a local fluorescent penetrant inspection of the case.

    1. SUBTASK 72-50-53-220-265 Examine the Turbine Exhaust Case

      1. Examine the turbine exhaust case.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-50-53-200-000 (INSPECTION/CHECK-000). The length must be 10.029 to 10.049 in. (254.74 to 255.25 mm) at the areas that are repaired locally and not repaired. Refer to Repair, VRS3654 TASK 72-50-53-300-077 (REPAIR-077) if build-up is necessary.
