Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-58-01-110-056 Clean the No. 5 Bearing Heatshield

      1. Clean the heatshield.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503, SPM TASK 70-11-13-300-503, SPM TASK 70-11-15-300-503, SPM TASK 70-11-16-300-503 or SPM TASK 70-11-33-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-58-01-310-051 Weld Repair Cracks in the No. 5 Bearing Heatshield

      1. Rout out cracks in the welds.

      2. Refer to Figure. There is no maximum length or quality of cracks.

Cracks in the welds must be fully routed out.

Cracks in the sheet metal do not have to be routed out.

    2. Clean the weld area with a silicon carbide wheel or equivalent.

      1. Weld the cracks by the manual gas tungsten arc method.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-31-13-310-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-58-01-310-052 Weld Patches on Holes in the No. 5 Bearing Heatshield

      1. Remove rough edges or distorted areas around the holes by machine.

      2. The area that you machine to remove damage can be any shape.

The area must be in a 2.000in. (50.8 mm) diameter circle.

The inner and outer corner radii must be 0.250in. (6.350 mm) or larger.

      1. Mechanically remove oxides that are in 0.300in. (7.620 mm) of the hole that you machined.

      2. Use a silicon carbide wheel or equivalent.

      1. Make a patch to fit 0.000 to 0.005in. (0.000 to 0.127 mm) loose in the hole you machined.

      2. Make the patches cut from discarded parts of the same part number or use AMS 5510 sheet stock of the same thickness.

      1. Weld the patch in position.

      2. Refer to TASK 70-31-13-310-503 and Figure.

    1. SUBTASK 72-58-01-220-061 Examine the Repair
