This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in the relevant Inspection.

The TASK gives the procedure to chromium plate the pilot diameter of the oil duct.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-42-320-102 Machine the Pilot Diameter B of the Oil Duct

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Machine the pilot diameter.

      2. The pre-plating diameter must be between 1.9087 and 1.9193 in. (48.483 and 48.750 mm).

      3. Remove all damage and wear.

      4. Keep the removal of material to the minimum necessary to remove the damage.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-42-230-067 Examine the Oil Duct

      1. Do a penetrant inspection for cracks.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-60-42-200-007, SUBTASK 72-60-42-230-062.

      3. Cracks are not permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-42-380-061 Shot-peen the Pilot Diameter

      1. Shot-peen the bearing journal surface to an intensity of 6 to 8A.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-04-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-42-110-004 Clean the Oil Duct

      WARNING

      WHEN YOU USE CoMat 01-003 SOLVENT, DELETED YOU MUST USE THE NECESSARY PROTECTIVE CLOTHING. DO NOT GET THE SOLVENT ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. YOU MUST NOT SMOKE WHEN YOU USE THE SOLVENT AS THE VAPOR CHANGES AND BECOMES TOXIC.
      1. Do the vapor degreasing.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-01-300-503.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Mask the areas of the tube not to be plated.

      1. Chromium plate the pilot diameter.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

      3. Plate to a sufficient thickness to let the machining to the final dimensions.

      4. The plating out of the pilot diameter area is permitted but must be removed.

    3. Remove the masking.

      1. Clean and dry the fuel oil duct.

      2. Flush with cold water.

      3. Flush with hot water.

      4. Dry with air blast.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-42-370-076 Do the Embrittlement Relief to the Oil Duct

      1. Put the oil duct into a furnace at 284 to 320 deg F (140 to 160 deg C) for 5 hours.

      2. Do this procedure as soon as possible in 4 hours after the plating.

    1. SUBTASK 72-60-42-220-089 Examine the Oil Duct

      1. Do the visual inspection of the plating for finish, cracks and adhesion.

      2. The plating must have a constant color.

      3. Blistering and signs of burned metal are not permitted.

      1. Machine the pilot diameter.

      2. The pilot diameter must be between 1.9205 and 1.9213 in. (48.780 and 48.800 mm).

      3. Clean up the edges and chamfers, where necessary.

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Do the visual inspection of chromium plated areas for cracks and adhesion.

      2. The natural network crack, emphasized by grinding, is permitted.

      1. Measure the thickness of the plating.

      2. Do not accept thickness less than 0.0010 in. (0.025 mm) after the final machining.
