This Repair must only be done when the instruction to do so is given in 75-24-51 Inspection/Check.

This Repair gives the instruction to replace the slotted entry bearings on the ACC mounting brackets.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-110-072 Chemically Clean the Bracket Assemblies

      1. Chemically clean the bracket assembly.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-230-063 Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test of the bearing adjacent area(s).

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. Any Cracks - Reject.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-004-001 Remove the Bearing - Method 1

    2. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THE BRACKET ASSEMBLY IS HELD CORRECTLY AND TAKE CARE WHEN YOU PRESS OUT THE BEARING NOT TO DAMAGE THE BEARING LOCATION HOLE.

      Refer to Figure or Figure.

      1. Install the bracket assemblies on the vertical milling machine.

      1. Machine the lip of the bearing that is to be replaced.

      2. Use IAE 3R19072 Trepanning cutter 1 off or suitable equivalent and Chemical cleaning equipment.

      1. Remove the bearing.

      2. Use a pressure of 15 psi (1 bar) (100 KPa).

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-004-002 Remove the Bearing - Method 2

    2. CAUTION

      MAKE SURE THE BRACKET ASSEMBLY IS HELD CORRECTLY AND TAKE CARE WHEN YOU PRESS OUT THE BEARING NOT TO DAMAGE THE BEARING LOCATION HOLE.

      Refer to Figure and Figure.

      1. NOTE

        This is an alternative to Step.

        Carefully press out the bearing in the bracket assemblies that is to be replaced.

      2. Use a pressure of 15 psi (1 bar) (100 KPa).

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-005 Polish the Bearing Location Hole

      1. Polish any scratches from the bearing location hole, as necessary.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-35-03-300-501.

      3. Use Press.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-110-073 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the area bracket assembly.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-230-064 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test of the bearing adjacent area(s).

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. Cracked - Reject.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-006 Install the New Bearing

    2. Refer to Figure or Figure and Figure.

      1. NOTE

        Before you install the new bearing assembly, you must remove the ball bearing and keep it safe.

        Install the new bearing in to the bracket assemblies.

      2. For part number 6A6488 and 6A6586 use VTB12350E, bearing assembly, 02-330, 1 off. Alternatively use P25000, bearing assembly, 02-332, 1 off. Or use VTB12351, spherical bearing, 02-332, 1 off. Alternatively use P25001 assembly, 02-332, 1 off.

      1. Install the new bearing in to the bracket assemblies.

      2. For part number 6A6490 and 6A6585 use VTB12350E, bearing assembly, 02-180, 1 off. Alternatively use P25000, bearing assembly, 02-180, 1 off. Or use VTB12351, spherical bearing, 02-182, 1 off. Alternatively use P25001 assembly, 02-182, 1 off.

      1. Install the new bearing in to the bracket assemblies.

      2. For part number 6A6491 use VTB12350E, bearing assembly, 01- 820, 1 off. Alternatively P25000 bearing assembly, 01-820, 1 off. Or use VTB12351, spherical bearing, 01-822, 1 off. Alternatively use P25001 bearing assembly, 01-882, 1 off.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-007 Ring Stake the New Bearing

    2. Refer to Figure (or) Figure and Figure.

      1. Stake the new bearing in to the bracket assemblies.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-42-06-400-501, SUBTASK 70-42-06-400-004.

      3. Use a staking tool, 1 off, available from Bearing vendor.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-110-074 Chemically Clean

      1. Chemically clean the bracket assemblies.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-11-26-300-503.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-230-065 Do a Crack Test

      1. Do a local penetrant crack test of the bearing adjacent area(s).

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-23-05-230-501.

      3. Cracked - Reject.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-220-099 Do a Visual And Dimensional Inspection

    2. Refer to Figure (or) Figure and Figure.

      1. Visually examine the bracket assemblies.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-42-06-400-501, SUBTASK 70-42-06-400-004.

      3. Make sure the new bearing is correctly located.

      1. Inspect circumference of the gap in the swaged lip to housing chamfer.

      2. Use a 0.127 mm (0.005 in.) feeler gauge.

      3. A properly swaged bearing in an optimally prepared housing will not accept the feeler gauge.

      4. No more than 40 percent of the circumference may accept the feeler gauge.

      5. The bearing race face is to be within 0.254 mm. (0.010 in.)

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-008 Do a Bearing Pull Out Check

    2. Select one bearing to be checked.

      1. Apply a load of 600 lbf to each side of the staked bearing.

      2. The load is to be applied to the bearing housing and is to be applied along the axis of the sperical bearing through the hole.

        NOTE

        No load to be passed on to the ball of the bearing.
      3. The bearing must not move during the test.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-009 Install the Ball Bearing

    2. CAUTION

      CAUTION: DO NOT USE METALLIC TIES. THESE CAN DAMAGE THE BEARING COMPONENTS.

      Refer to Figure (or) Figure and Figure.

      1. Install the ball bearing(s) and examine the movement of the ball in the bearing.

      2. Make sure there is a smooth movement.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-010 Safety the ball in the Bearing

      1. CAUTION

        CAUTION: DO NOT USE METALLIC TIES. THESE CAN DAMAGE THE BEARING COMPONENTS.

        Safety the ball in the bearing.

      2. Use string or a suitable equivalent.

    1. SUBTASK 75-24-51-350-011 Identify the Part

      1. Make a mark VRS6673 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501, SUBTASK 70-09-00-400-001.
