Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-110-055 Clean the Starter Duct

      WARNING

      KEEP FLAMES AND ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT WHICH IS NOT FLAMEPROOF AWAY FROM THE WORK AREA. THE CLEANING FLUID IS FLAMMABLE.

      WARNING

      DO NOT GET CLEANING FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. PUT ON PROTECTIVE CLOTHING, GOGGLES AND A MASK. USE THE FLUID IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA. DO NOT BREATHE THE GAS. IF YOU GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES, FLUSH IT AWAY WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOUR SKIN OR EYES BECOME IRRITATED.
      1. Clean the starter duct.

      2. Refer to TASK 80-13-49-100-101 (CLEANING-001).

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-350-056 Prepare the Damaged Area

      1. Identify the area to be removed.

      2. Refer to Figure.

      3. Make sure that the mark is symmetrical in shape and larger all around than the damaged area.

      1. Remove the damaged area.

      2. Use the standard workshop tools and cut along the mark around the damaged area.

      3. Remove the damaged area.

      1. Remove all the sharp edges from the cut-out in the starter duct.

      2. Use the standard workshop tools.

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-350-057 Make a Repair Patch

      1. Make a repair patch.

      2. Use the standard workshop tools and either a section of used starter duct or the applicable repair material.

      3. Make the repair patch to the same dimensions as the cut-out in the starter duct.

      4. Roll the material until the contour of the repair patch and the starter duct are the same.

      1. Remove all the sharp edges from the repair patch.

      2. Use the standard workshop tools.

      1. Clean the starter duct.

      2. Refer to TASK 80-13-49-100-101 (CLEANING-001).

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-310-002 Install the Repair Patch

      1. Put the repair patch into the correct position for installation.

      2. If necessary, tack weld the repair patch into position.

      1. Weld the repair patch.

      2. The welding data is as follows:

        NOTE

        The argon backing flow, the argon torch flow and the current flow must be determined by experiment on suitable test pieces.

        Type - Argon-arc D.C.

        Torch - B.O.C. W200 or equivalent

        Electrode - 2% ceriated tungsten with a 0.0625 inch (1.54 mm) diameter

    2. Let the repair cool.

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-120-001 Clean the Repaired Area

      1. Clean the repaired area.

      2. Use the Wire brush to remove the unwanted materials caused by the repair.

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-220-063 Examine the Repair

      1. Visually examine the repaired area of the starter duct.

      2. Make sure that the repair is satisfactory.

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-230-055 Examine the Repair

      1. Do the dye-penetrant test of the repair.

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-260-001 Examine the Repair

      1. Do the X-ray inspection of the repair.

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-780-059 Pressure Test the Starter Duct

      1. Do a pressure test of the starter duct.

      2. Refer to the TASK 80-13-49-700-101 (TESTING-001).

    1. SUBTASK 80-13-49-850-001 Put the Repair Scheme Number on the Starter Duct

      1. Put the repair scheme number VRS2763 on the starter duct adjacent to the part number using electro-etch method.

      2. Refer to SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501.
