General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the LP compressor bleed duct, the booster stage bleed valve and actuating mechanism and the right and left rod assemblies.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved penetrating oil and procedures refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

Discard all tab washers removed in this procedure.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No. 1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the No. 1 strut leading edge.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-116 Turn the Fan Frame Assembly Horizontal with the No.1 Strut Up

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure that the fan frame assembly is installed, vertically with the front end up on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-007-A00 (DISASSEMBLY-007, CONFIG-001).

    3. Release the lock pin from the holes in the handle and the support C of the turnover stand.

    4. Turn the handle to set the fan frame assembly horizontally with the No. 1 strut up.

    5. Align the hole in the support C with one of the eight holes in the handle.

    6. Install the lock pin in to position to lock the handle of the turnover stand.

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-117-A00 Remove the Right and Left Rod Assemblies (Pre SBE 72-0233)

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Disconnect the two rod end adapters from the power arms.

      1. Remove the stopper from each pin with IAE 1J12208 Puller 1 off.

      2. Remove the pin from the holes in each power arm and rod end adapter.

      3. Remove the two rod end adapters from the rod assemblies.

      1. Bend back the tabs on each tab washer to release the jam nut.

      2. Loosen each jam nut.

      3. Remove the rod end adapter and the jam nut from each rod assembly.

    4. Remove the two tab washers from the rod assemblies. Discard the tab washers.

    5. Remove the rod assemblies from the fan frame assembly.

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-117-B00 Remove the Right and Left Rod Assemblies (SBE 72-0233)

      SBE 72-0233: Rod adjustment feature relocation of LPC bleed rigging.

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

      2. Disconnect the two forward rod end bearings ENGINE-BLEED VALVE ACTUATING ROD ASSEMBLY (72-32-75, 01-120) and ENGINE-BLEED VALVE ACTUATING ROD ASSEMBLY (72-32-75, 01-420) from the power arms.

      1. Remove the stopper from each pin withIAE 1J12208 Puller 1 off.

      2. Remove the pin from the holes in each power arm and forward rod end bearings.

      3. Remove the two forward rod end bearings from the rod assemblies.

      1. Bend back the tabs on each tab washer to release the jam nut.

      2. Loosen each jam nut.

      3. Remove the forward rod end bearing and the jam nut from each rod assembly.

    4. Remove the two tab washers from the rod assemblies. Discard the tab washers.

    5. Remove the rod assemblies ENGINE-BLEED VALVE ACTUATING ROD ASSEMBLY (72-32-75, 01-200) and ENGINE-BLEED VALVE ACTUATING ROD ASSEMBLY (72-32-75, 01-500) from the fan frame assembly.

      6. Remove the two rod end bearings ENGINE-BLEED VALVE ACTUATING ROD ASSEMBLY (72-32-75, 01-190) and ENGINE-BLEED VALVE ACTUATING ROD ASSEMBLY (72-32-75, 01-490) from the rod assemblies.

      1. Bend back the tabs on each tab washer to release the jam nut.

      2. Loosen each jam nut.

      3. Remove the rod end bearing and the jam nut from each rod assembly.

    7. Remove the two tab washers from the rod assemblies. Discard the tab washers.

    4. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-118 Turn the Fan Frame Assembly Vertically with the Front End Up

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Release the lock pin from the holes in the handle and the support C of the turnover stand.

    3. Turn the handle to set the fan frame assembly vertically with the front end up.

    4. Align the hole in the support C with one of the eight holes in the handle.

    5. Install the lock pin in to position to lock the handle of the turnover stand.

    5. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-119 Remove the Booster Stage Bleed Valve and Actuating Mechanism from the LP Compressor Bleed Duct

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the 20 bolts and bushes which attach the bleed valve and actuating mechanism and the LP compressor bleed duct to the fan frame assembly. Remove the bleed valve and actuating mechanism.

    6. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-316 Remove the LP Compressor Bleed Duct from the Fan Frame Assembly

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the LP compressor bleed duct from the fan frame assembly.

    3. Remove the four bolts and washers which attach the seal retainers to the LP compressor bleed duct.

    4. Remove the two seal retainers and seals from the recesses in the LP compressor bleed duct.

    5. Pre SBE 72-0595: Remove the five screens from the LP compressor bleed duct.
