General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the LP/HP fuel pump from the engine.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha-variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the item number.

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

Remove and discard the lockwire before the tubes are disconnected.

The engine must be isolated from starting air supply, fuel supply and electrical power source while you do this procedure.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-143 Remove the FMU from the Pump

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Disconnect the electrical connectors and the tubes from the FMU. Refer to TASK 72-00-60-050-002-B00 (REMOVAL-006, CONFIG-002).

    3. Remove the drain tube and the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 05-100) from the pump. Refer to 72-00-60-050-002-B00 (REMOVAL-006, CONFIG-002).

    4. Remove the FMU from the pump. Refer to 72-00-60-050-002-B00 (REMOVAL-006, CONFIG-002).

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-144-A00 Remove the Fuel Tube (73-11-49,02-100) from the FCOC and the Pump (Pre SBE 73-0078)

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the bolts, the nuts, the washers, the clip nut, the spacer and the clips at the clip points 0306, 0305, 1185, 0304, 0319 and 0302.

    3. Disconnect the fuel tubes Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-700) from the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-100).

    4. Disconnect the fuel tubes Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-500 and Control Fuel Tubes 03-100) from the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-100) with IAE 1R18000 Wrench 1 off.

      5. Remove the fuel tubes Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-100).

      1. Remove the six bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-106) which attach the fuel tube to the fuel pump and the FCOC. Remove the fuel tube.

      2. Remove the two sealing rings Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-108), the retaining ring and the restrictor from the fuel tube. Discard the seal rings.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-144-B00 Remove the Fuel Tube (73-11-49,02-100 and 02-300) from the FCOC and the Pump (SBE 73-0078)

      SBE 73-0078: New tubes with a repositioned restrictor orifice.

    1. Refer to Figure, Figure, Figure, Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the bolts, the nuts, the washers, the clip nut, the spacer and the clips at the clip points 0306, 0305, 1185, 0304, 0319 and 0302.

    3. Disconnect the fuel tubes Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-700) from the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-100).

    4. Disconnect the fuel tubes Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-500 and Control Fuel Tubes 03-100) from the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-100) with IAE 1R18000 Wrench 1 off.

      5. Remove the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-100).

      1. Remove the six bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-106 and Control Fuel Tubes 02-305) which attach the fuel tube to the pump and the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-300). Remove the fuel tube.

      2. Remove the sealing ring Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-108), from the fuel tube. Discard the sealing ring.

      6. Remove the fuel tube Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-300).

      1. Remove the three bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-316) which attach the fuel tube to the FCOC. Remove the fuel tube.

      2. Remove the two sealing rings Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-308 and Control Fuel Tubes 02-314), the retaining ring and the restrictor from the fuel tube. Discard the sealing rings.

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-145 Remove the Fuel Tube (73-11-47,01-100) from the Flexible Hose and the Pump

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the three bolts Main Fuel Supply Fuel Tubes (73-11-47, 01-102) which attach the bracket and the fuel tube to the pump.

      3. Disconnect the fuel tubes Main Fuel Supply Fuel Tubes (73-11-47, 01-100 and FUEL SYSTEM TUBES (RIGID)-POWER PLANT02-100) from the mounting bracket.

      1. Cut and discard the lockwire which safeties the tube nuts.

      2. CAUTION

        HOLD THE UNIONS OF THE FLEXIBLE HOSES DURING DISCONNECTING PROCEDURE OF THE TUBE NUTS TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE FLEXIBLE HOSES.

        Disconnect the tube nuts from the unions of the flexible hoses.

    4. Remove the five bolts Main Fuel Supply Fuel Tubes (73-11-47, 01-906) and the nuts Main Fuel Supply Fuel Tubes (73-11-47, 01-910) which attach the mounting bracket to the fan case.

    5. Move the mounting bracket and the flexible hoses in direction U to make clearances between the fuel tubes and the unions of the flexible hoses.

    6. Remove the fuel tube Main Fuel Supply Fuel Tubes (73-11-47, 01-100) from the pump.

    7. Discard the sealing ring Main Fuel Supply Fuel Tubes (73-11-47, 01-104).

    5. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-146 Remove the Fuel Flow Transmitter

      NOTE

      Fuel flow transmitter removal is necessary to make space for pump removal.

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Refer the fuel flow transmtter. Refer to TASK 72-00-32-050-006 (REMOVAL-013).

    6. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-147 Remove the Pump

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the clamp.

      1. Lift the female part, which has the strap slot end, with an applicable hand tool to disengage strap end tongue from the strap end slot.

      2. NOTE

        Hold the weight of the pump until Step is completed.

        Remove the stiff-nut from the T-bolt.

      3. Remove the clamp from the two mating flanges of the adapter and the pump.

    3. Remove the pump.

    4. Discard the two sealing rings Fuel Pumps (73-12-41, 01-145 and Fuel Pumps 01-170).

    5. Install the applicable covers/caps/plugs to all the openings in the pump.
