Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-320-054 Machine Worn Pin Hole

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. NOTE

        If surface was repaired with chrome plate before, remove old plating fully.

        Machine the damaged diameter to 0.2544 to 0.2740 in. (6.460 to 6.960 mm) diameter.

      2. Machine only the minimum quantity of material to remove damage. Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-230-085 Examine the Pin Hole of the Upper Power Arm for Cracks

      1. Do a penetrant crack test on the repaired area.

        1. Refer to TASK 72-32-71-200-004-B00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-001).

        2. No cracks permitted.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-330-055 Chromium Plate the Upper Power Arm, the Pin Hole

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. NOTE

        Heat treatment is not necessary before chromium plating.

        Apply a mask, etch and wash the part.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

      1. Put the part fully into a standard chromium plating solution for sufficient time to get the diameter 0.2444 in. (6.210 mm) maximum.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

      1. Heat-treat after plating.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-33-02-100-501.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-370-001 Bake the Upper Power Arm after Plating

      1. Bake the plated part in four hours or less after plating for eight hours minimum at a temperature of 351 to 401 deg F (177 to 205 deg C).

      2. Use an oven.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-330-056 Examine the Upper Power Arm after Plating

      1. Visually examine the chromium deposit for pits, cracks that you can see and burns.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-71-200-004-B00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-001).

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-324-001 Grind the Upper Power Arm after Plating

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Grind the plated area to the specified dimensions.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-32-00-320-501. Use standard workshop equipment.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-220-153 Examine the Upper Power Arm after Grinding

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Visually examine the ground area for pits, cracks, burns and too much rough surface.

      2. Refer to TASK 72-32-71-200-004-B00 (INSPECTION-004, CONFIG-001).

    3. Dimensionally examine the area after grinding.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-71-350-088 Identify the Repair

      1. Put mark VRS1719 adjacent to the part number.

      2. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-09-00-400-501. Use vibro-engraving equipment.
