General

This TASK gives the procedure to clean the post SBE 72-0562 Stage 1 HPT support which has a brush seal. For the other parts of the Stage 1 HPT support assembly, refer to TASK 72-44-10-100-000 (CLEANING-000). For pre SBE 72-0562 (no brush seal) Stage 1 HPT supports. refer to TASK 72-44-10-100-002-B00 (Cleaning-002).

The practices and processes referred to in the procedure by the TASK numbers are in the SPM.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants, refer to the IPC.

For some ofthe SUBTASKs in this TASK, the brush seal (FIg/Item 01-025) must be disassembled from the support assembly (Fig/ltem 01-010) before you do the specified chemical cleaning that Is specified In the subtask. Refer to Repair, VRS3771 TASK 72-44-10-300-027 SUBTASK 72-44-10-350- 067, SUBTASK 72-44-10-350-068, and SUBTASK 72-44-10-320-065 for removing the brush seal.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-10-110-001 Remove the Grease and Oil

      1. Remove the grease and oil. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-03-300-503.

      2. Degrease parts by aqueous cleaning.

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-10-110-002 Remove the Rust and Carbon

      1. If part has brush seal installed, remove brush seal from support assembly. Refer to Repair, VRS3771 TASK 72-44-10-300-027 SUBTASK 72- 44-10-350-067, SUBTASK 72-44-10- 350-068, and SUBTASK 72-44-10- 320-065.

      2. Remove the rivets from the brush seal supports and support assembly, remove the brush seal supports, and remove the brush seal assembly.

      1. Remove the rust and carbon. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-13-300-503.

      2. Cleaning of components (long soak, for cobalt and nickel base alloys and heat and non-corrosion resistant steels).

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-10-110-003 Remove the Rust. Carbon and Scale

      1. If part has brush seal installed, remove brush seal from support assembly. Refer to Repair, VRS3771 TASK 72-44-10-300-027 SUBTASK 72- 44-10-350-067, SUBTASK 72-44-10- 350-068, and SUBTASK 72-44-10- 320-065.

      2. Remove the rivets from the brush seal supports and support assembly, remove the brush seal supports, and remove the brush seal assembly.

      1. Remove the rust, carbon and scale. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-11-54-300-503.

      2. Heavy duty scale removal from a component (cobalt and nickel base material).

    1. SUBTASK 72-44-10-120-001 Remove Remaining Corrosion by One of the Procedures that Follow

      1. Remove corrosion remaining after SUBTASK 72-44-10-110- 065 or SUBTASK 72-44- 10-110-055 chemical cleaning. Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-08-300-503.

      2. Wet abrasive Novaculite blast.

      1. Remove corrosion remaining after SUBTASK 72-44-10-110- 065 or SUBTASK 72-44- 10-110-055 chemical cleaning. Refer to SPM TASK 70-12-13-300-503.

      2. Wet abrasive 500 grit blast.
