TASK 72-00-00-200-803 Engine General - Examine Engines Removed From Service Because Of Bearing Spall Or Outer Ring Fracture Or Planned Shop Visit For No. 3 Bearing Removal Or HPC Stub Shaft Surgical Strike, Special Procedures-003
General
This TASK gives the procedure for the inspection for debris in engines removed from service because of bearing spall, outer ring fracture or shop visit for No. 3 bearing removal or HPC stub shaft surgical strike.

WARNING
Procedure
Do a thorough cleaning and inspection of components.
NOTE
IAE recommends that the shops give more detailed work instructions into local work instructions to make sure that all oil-wetted components, tubes, housings, intermediate case strut cavities and external oil system components (fuel-cooled oil cooler (FCOC), air-cooled oil cooler (ACOC), etc.) are thouroughly cleaned and inspected to make sure they have no debris before you return bearing-event engines to service.
Clean and inspect engines removed from service.
Clean the hardware by aqueous spray cleaning given in TASK 70-11-03-300-503.
Clean and inspect heat exchanger components such as the FCOC and ACOC by the instructions given in their Component Maintenance Manuals to make sure there is no debris between oil-wetted surfaces.
NOTE
IAE recommends that engines which have a No.3 bearing outer ring fracture or bearing spall have a more thourough oil system flush at test. IAE recommends that the shops incorporate the flush instructions into local work instructions.
Do the following steps on engines that are in the shop for No. 3 bearing spall or fracture, or as a planned shop visit for No. 3 bearing removal or HPC stub shaft rework:
Fully drain the oil system, TASK 71-00-00-600-002.
Remove and examine the pressure and scavenge filters, TASK 72-00-60-050-010 and TASK 72-00-60-050-011.
Fill the oil system with new engine oil, TASK 71-00-00-600-002.
Fully drain the oil system, TASK 71-00-00-600-002.
Examine the magnetic chip detectors (MCDs), and the pressure and scavenge filters, TASK 72-00-00-200-008.
Fill the oil system with new engine oil, TASK 71-00-00-600-002.
Do the steps that follow to flush the engine during test:
