General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the fuel diverter and return valve (FDRV) from the engine.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha-variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the item number.

Discard all rubber seal rings removed in this procedure.

Remove and discard the lockwire before the tubes and the drain plugs are disconnected.

The engine must be isolated from starting air supply, fuel supply and electrical power source while you do this procedure.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-050-074 Drain Fuel and Oil from the Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC)

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT LET FUEL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE FUEL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE FUEL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT LET FUEL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM.

        Drain fuel from the FCOC.

      2. Cut and discard the lockwire which safeties the fuel drain plug.

      3. Put the container below the fuel drain port of the FCOC.

      4. Remove the fuel drain plug and drain the fuel into the container.

    3. Remove and discard the sealing ring Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-147).

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT LET ENGINE OIL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE OIL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT LET OIL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED OIL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE OIL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT PUT OIL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE OIL SYSTEM.

        Drain oil from the FCOC.

      2. Cut and discard the lockwire which safeties the oil drain plug.

      3. Put the container below the oil drain port of the FCOC.

      4. Remove the oil drain plug and drain the oil into the container.

    4. Remove and discard the sealing ring Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-157).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-040-075 Disconnect the Electrical Connectors

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Disconnect the electrical connectors 4018KS-A and 4018KS-B from the FDRV.

    4. Disconnect the electrical connector 4002EL-A from the fuel filter differential pressure switch on the FCOC.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-065 -A1 Series : Disconnect the Electrical Connector 4017KS-A from the Fuel Temperature Thermocouple

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Disconnect the electrical connector 4017KS-A from the fuel temperature thermocouple in the FCOC.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-066-A00 -A5 Series : Disconnect the Electrical Connector 4017KS-A from the Fuel Temperature Thermocouple (Pre SBE 73-0071 and Pre SBE 71-0183)

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Disconnect the electrical connector 4017KS-A from the fuel temperature thermocouple in the FCOC.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-066-B00 -A5 Series : Disconnect the EEC Harness Terminal Connector 4017KS-A (SBE 73-0071 and SBE 71-0183)

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. Disconnect the terminal connectors from the FCOC fuel temperature thermocouple. Refer to Figure.

      2. Remove the four nuts FUEL TEMPERATURE THERMOCOUPLE (73-35-15, 01-130 and FUEL TEMPERATURE THERMOCOUPLE 01-140) and disconnect the thermocouple harness from the thermocouple FUEL TEMPERATURE THERMOCOUPLE (73-35-15, 01-100).

      3. If the thermocouple is not to be removed, remove and install the thermocouple securing bolts one at a time.

      4. Remove the two bolts FUEL TEMPERATURE THERMOCOUPLE (73-35-15, 01-110) that secure the thermocouple. Disconnect the harness ground connectors and refit the bolts.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-054 Disconnect the Servo Feed FMU to FDRV Fuel Tube and the Servo Return to FDRV Fuel Tube

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT LET FUEL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE FUEL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE FUEL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT LET FUEL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM.

        Disconnect each fuel tube and drain the remaining fuel from the FDRV.

      2. Cut and discard the lockwire which safeties the nut of the fuel tube.

      3. Put the container below the fuel tube connection.

      4. Disconnect the fuel tube from the FDRV and drain the fuel into the container.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-010-051 Remove the IDG FCOC to FDRV Fuel Tube

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the two bolts and disconnect the seal housing Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 03-085) and remove the fuel tube from the FDRV.

    4. Remove the three bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 03-506) and remove the bracket and the fuel tube from the IDG FCOC.

    5. Remove and discard the four sealing rings Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 03-508).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-010-052 Remove the FMU to FDRV Fuel Tube

    2. Refer to Figure, Figure and Figure.

    3. Remove the bolt and the washer at the clip position 1072.

    4. Remove the bolts, the washers and the nuts at the clip positions 0789 and 0790.

    5. Remove the bolt, the washer and the nut at the clip position 0921.

    6. Remove the bolt, the washer and the nut at the clip position 0922.

    7. Remove the bolt, the washer and the spacers at the clip position 0795.

      1. Disconnect the fuel tube from the fuel metering unit (FMU).

      2. Put the container below the fuel tube connection.

      3. Remove the three bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 26-106), which attach the fuel tube to the FMU, and drain fuel in to container.

    8. Remove and discard the sealing ring Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 26-108).

    9. Remove the two bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 26-114) and remove the fuel tube and the seal housing Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 26-085) from the FDRV.

    10. Remove and discard the three sealing rings Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 26-098 and Control Fuel Tubes 26-116).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-055 Disconnect the Oil Inlet Tube and the Oil Outlet Tube from the FCOC

    2. Refer to: Figure.

    3. Remove the six bolts and disconnect the oil inlet tube and the oil outlet tube from the FCOC.

    4. Remove and discard the two sealing rings.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-056 Disconnect the FCOC to LP Fuel Pump Element Fuel Tube from the FCOC

    2. Refer to : Figure

    3. NOTE

      Removal of the retaining ring and the restrictor from the fuel tube is not necessary.

      Remove the three bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-106) and disconnect the fuel tube from the FCOC.

    4. Remove and discard the sealing ring Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-108).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-057 Disconnect the FDRV To Drain Fuel Tube, the LP Fuel Pump Element To FDRV Fuel Tube and the FDRV To Aircraft Fuel Tube from the FDRV

    2. Refer to: Figure.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT LET FUEL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE FUEL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE FUEL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT LET FUEL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM.

        Disconnect the FDRV to drain fuel tube from the FDRV.

      2. Cut and discard the lockwire which safeties the nut of the fuel tube.

      3. Put the container below the fuel tube connection.

      4. Disconnect the fuel tube from the FDRV and drain fuel into the container.

      1. Disconnect the LP fuel pump element to FDRV fuel tube from the FDRV.

      2. Remove the two bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-514) which attach the seal housing Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-485), the fire shield and the fuel tube to the FDRV.

    3. NOTE

      The seal housing, the fire shield and the two sealing rings are removed in Step.

      Remove the sealing ring Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-516) from the seal housing and discard the sealing ring.

      1. Disconnect the FDRV to aircraft fuel tube from the FDRV.

      2. Remove the three bolts FUEL SYSTEM TUBES (RIGID)-POWER PLANT (73-11-47, 02-101) which attach the fuel tube to the FDRV.

      3. Disconnect the fuel tube.

    4. Remove the packing FUEL SYSTEM TUBES (RIGID)-POWER PLANT (73-11-47, 02-108) from the FDRV to aircraft fuel tube and discard the packing.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-010-053 Remove the FCOC to HP Pump Fuel Tube

    2. Refer to Figure.

      1. WARNING

        DO NOT LET FUEL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE FUEL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE FUEL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT LET FUEL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

        CAUTION

        DO NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM.

        Disconnect the fuel tube from the HP fuel pump.

      2. Remove the four bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 05-114) which attach the fuel tube to the HP fuel pump.

      3. Put the container below the fuel tube connection.

      4. Disconnect the fuel tube from the HP fuel pump and drain fuel into the container.

    3. Remove the three bolts Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 05-106) and remove the fuel tube from the FCOC.

    4. Remove and discard the two sealing rings Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 05-108 and Control Fuel Tubes 05-116).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-058 Remove the Assembly of the FCOC and the FDRV from the Engine

      NOTE

      Do not remove the FDRV independently of the FCOC from the engine. You cannot remove the FDRV from the engine when the FCOC is installed on the engine.
    2. Refer to : Figure and Figure.

      1. Disconnect the two bonding straps from the FCOC.

      2. Remove the bolt Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-254), the washer Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-253) and the nut Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-251) and disconnect the bonding strap Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-250) from the pin on the FCOC.

      3. Remove the bolt Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-355), the washer Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-392) and the nut Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-351) and disconnect the bonding strap Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-350)dd from the bracket of the FCOC.

      1. Release the assembly from the bracket and the link.

      2. Remove the nut Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-430), the bolt Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-435) and the bush which attach the assembly to the bracket.

      3. Remove the nut Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-590) and the bolt Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-595) which attach the assembly to the link.

      1. Remove the assembly from the bracket.

      2. Remove the bolt Fuel Cooled Oil Cooler (FCOC) (79-21-43, 01-110).

      3. Hold the weight of the assembly and remove the pin and the assembly from the bracket.

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-030-059 Remove the Seal Housing, the Fire Shield and the Sealing Rings

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the seal housing Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-485) and the fire shield from the LP fuel pump element to FDRV fuel tube.

    4. Remove and discard the two sealing rings Control Fuel Tubes (73-11-49, 02-498).

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-32-010-054 Remove the FDRV from the FCOC

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the four bolts and two washers which attach the FDRV to the FCOC.

    4. WARNING

      DO NOT LET FUEL STAY ON YOUR SKIN FOR A LONG TIME. FLUSH THE FUEL FROM YOUR SKIN WITH WATER. THE FUEL IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND YOUR BODY.

      CAUTION

      DO NOT LET FUEL FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED FUEL MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FUEL CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.

      CAUTION

      SO NOT PUT FUEL THAT HAS BEEN DRAINED FROM THE ENGINE BACK INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM.

      Remove the FDRV and drain the remaining fuel in to the container.

    5. Remove and discard the two sealing rings.

    6. Install the applicable covers, caps and plugs to all the openings.
