General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

For all parts identified in a different Chapter/Section/Subject, the applicable Chapter/Section/Subject comes before the Fig/item number.

For standard torque data and procedures refer to the SPM TASK 70-41-00-400-501 and TASK 70-41-02-400-501.

Special torque data and assembly tolerances are included in the procedure.

Lubricate all threads and abutment faces of the nuts and bolts with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS, unless other lubricants are referred to in the procedure.

To identify, lubricate and install seal rings refer to the SPM TASK 70-44-01-400-501.

After assembly apply CoMat 07-012 AIR DRYING ENAMEL to any damaged surface protection, joint flanges and attach parts. Refer to the SPM TASK 70-38-06-380-501 .

The number of each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

Transportation cover/blanks must be removed immediately before the installation of the component.

To identify the consumable material refer to the PCI.

Special tools are identified in the procedure by the tool primary number.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-00-60-050-106 Remove the crank cover

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Remove the two nuts and washers which attach the crank cover to the gearbox.

    3. Remove the crank cover and discard the packing.

    2. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-107 Install the Strainer (Pre SBE 79-0056)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate the new Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-850) packings 2 off with the CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL and install on to the Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-852) strainer.

    3. Lubricate the strainer seat on the gearbox casing with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

    4. Install the strainer in to the seat on the gearbox casing.

    3. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-107-A00 Install the Strainer (SBE 79-0056)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and reposition on the scavenge oil pump

    3. Lubricate the new Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-850) packings 2 off with the CoMat 10-039 ENGINE OIL and install on to the Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-852) strainer.

    4. Lubricate the strainer seat on the gearbox casing with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

    5. Install the strainer in to the seat on the gearbox casing.

    4. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-108 Install the Two Scavenge Tubes to the Scavenge Oil Pump (Pre SBE 79-0056)

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Install the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-110) tube to the scavenge oil pump.

      1. Make sure that the collar is correctly installed on the tube.

      2. Lubricate the new Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-160) packing 1 off and Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-100) packing 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install to the flange of the tube.

      3. Lubricate the tube seat on the scavenge oil pump with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

      4. Put the shouldered end of the tube in to the seat on the scavenge oil pump.

      5. Make sure that the shoulder of the tube connects correctly with the spot-facing of the collar.

      6. Attach the tube to the pump with the three bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts with your hand.

      7. Put the tube in to position for installation to the gearbox.

      3. Install the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-110) tube to the scavenge oil pump.

      1. Make sure that the collar is correctly installed on the tube.

      2. Lubricate the new Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-220) packing 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install to the flange of the adapter.

      3. Lubricate the new Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-150) packing 1 off and Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-100) packing 1 off with the CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install to the flange of the tube.

      4. Lubricate the tube seat on the scavenge oil pump with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

      5. Put the shouldered end of the tube in to the seat on the scavenge oil pump.

      6. Make sure that the shoulder of the tube connects correctly with the spot-facing of the collar.

      7. Attach the tube to the pump with the three bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts with your hand.

      8. Put the tube in to position for installation to the gearbox.

    5. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-108-A00 Install the Two Scavenge Tubes to the Scavenge Oil Pump (SBE 79-0056)

      SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and repositioned on the scavenge oil pump

    1. Refer to Figure.

      2. Install the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-110) tube to the scavenge oil pump.

      1. Make sure that the collar is correctly installed on the tube.

      2. Lubricate the new Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-160) packing 1 off and Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-100) packing 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install to the flange of the tube.

      3. Lubricate the tube seat on the scavenge oil pump with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

      4. Put the shouldered end of the tube in to the seat on the scavenge oil pump.

      5. Make sure that the shoulder of the tube connects correctly with the spot-facing of the collar.

      6. Attach the tube to the pump with the three bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts with your hand.

      7. Put the tube in to position for installation to the gearbox.

      3. Install the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-110) tube to the scavenge oil pump.

      1. Lubricate the new Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-220) packing 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install to the flange of the adapter.

      2. Lubricate the new Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-150) packing 1 off and Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-100) packing 1 off with the CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install to the flange of the tube.

      3. Lubricate the tube seat on the scavenge oil pump with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

      4. Put the shouldered end of the tube in to the seat on the scavenge oil pump.

      5. Attach the tube to the pump with the three bolts and washers. Tighten the bolts with your hand.

      6. Put the tube in to position for installation to the gearbox.

    6. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-109-A00 Install the Scavenge Oil Pump (Pre SBE 70-0365)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP. IT WEIGHS 12,22 LBS (5.544 KG).

      Install a standard wrench on the starter idler gear and manually turn the gear train to make the following steps easier.

    3. NOTE

      Turn the gearbox gear train with the wrench. This helps to engage the scavenge pump drive gear with the scavenge pump gear drive in the gearbox.

      Slowly install the scavenge oil pump with no packings installed. Make sure that the pump drive gear engage correctly with the scavenge oil pump drive gear in the gearbox.

    4. NOTE

      The position of the wrench will show if the engine/gearbox train rotation has occurred after the removal of the pump.

      Turn the wrench down to the vertical position and leave it installed.

    5. WARNING

      DO NOT TURN THE ENGINE/GEARBOX TRAIN OR SCAVENGE PUMP DRIVE GEAR, TO AVOID DAMAGE TO THE PUMP/GEARBOX DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE PUMP.

      NOTE

      If any rotation occurs repeat above steps.

      Remove the scavenge oil pump.

    6. Lubricate the new Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-034) packings 2 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the flange of the pump.

    7. Lubricate the seats of the pump and the tube on the gearbox support with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

    8. Install the scavenge pump to the gearbox support.

    9. Put the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-110) tube in to the seat on the gearbox casing.

    10. Align the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-110) tube with the seat on the angle gearbox.

    11. Make sure that the drive gear on the pump engages correctly with the scavenge oil pump gear drive.

    12. Attach the pump to the angle gearbox with the four washers and nuts. Torque the nuts to 180 lbf.in. - 200 lbf.in. (20.34 Nm - 22.59 Nm).

    7. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-109-B00 Install the Scavenge Oil Pump (SBE 70-0365)

      SBE 70-0365: Oil scavenge pump featuring a wider tooth face

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP. IT WEIGHS 12.22 LBS (5.544 KG).

      Lubricate the new Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-034) packings 2 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the flange of the pump.

    3. Lubricate the seats of the pump and the tube on the gearbox support with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

    4. Install the scavenge pump to the gearbox support.

    5. Put the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 01-110) tube in to the seat on the gearbox casing.

    6. Align the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-110) tube with the seat on the angle gearbox.

    7. NOTE

      Turn the gearbox gear train with the wrench. This helps to engage the scavenge pump drive gear with the scavenge pump gear drive.

      Make sure that the drive gear on the pump engages correctly with the scavenge oil pump gear drive.

    8. Attach the pump to the angle gearbox support with the four washers and nuts. Torque the nuts to 180 lbf.in. - 200 lbf.in. (20.34 Nm - 22.59 Nm).

    8. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-109-C00 Install the Scavenge Oil Pump (SBE 79-0056)

      SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and repositioned on the scavenge oil pump

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE SCAVENGE OIL PUMP. IT WEIGHS 12.22 LBS (5.544 KG).

      Lubricate the new Oil Scavenge Pump (79-22-41, 01-034) packings 2 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the flange of the pump.

    6. Align the Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 02-110) tube with the seat on the angle gearbox.

    7. NOTE

      Turn the gearbox gear train with the wrench. This helps to engage the scavenge pump drive gear with the scavenge pump gear drive.

      Make sure that the drive gear on the pump engages correctly with the scavenge oil pump gear drive.

    8. Attach the pump to the angle gearbox support with the four washers and nuts. Torque the nuts to 180 lbf.in. - 200 lbf.in. (20.34 Nm - 22.59 Nm).

    9. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-110 Connect the (79-22-48,02-190) Adapter and the Two Scavenge Tubes to the Angle Gearbox (Pre SBE 79-0056)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure that the tube is correctly aligned with the seat on the angle gearbox.

    3. Move the adapter in to the seat on the angle gearbox. Align the holes in the adapter flange with the studs on the angle gearbox.

    4. Attach the adapter to the angle gearbox with the two washers and nuts. Torque to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    5. Torque the six bolts which attach the two scavenge tubes to the scavenge oil pump to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    10. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-110-A00 Connect the (79-22-48,02-190) Adapter and the Two Scavenge Tubes to the Angle Gearbox (SBE 79-0056)

      SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and repositioned on the scavenge oil pump

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Make sure that the tube is correctly aligned with the seat on the angle gearbox.

    3. Move the adapter in to the seat on the angle gearbox. Align the holes in the adapter flange with the studs on the angle gearbox.

    4. Attach the adapter to the angle gearbox with the two washers and nuts. Torque to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    5. Torque the six bolts which attach the two scavenge tubes to the scavenge oil pump to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    11. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-148 Install the Scavenge Tube (123) to the Scavenge Pump (Pre SBE 79-0056)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate the OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE (79-22-49, 02-516) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the flange of the tube (123).

    3. Install the tube (123) above the angle gearbox support and between the scavenge oil pump and the tube (124).

    4. Attach the tube to the scavenge oil pump with the three bolts. Torque the bolts to 40 lbfin (4.5 Nm).

    5. Assemble the clip at position 0286. Torque the bolt to 40 lbfin (4.5 Nm).

    6. Connect the tube (123) to the tube (124). Torque the connector to 420 lbfin (47 Nm). Use IAE 1R18001 Wrench 1 off.

    7. Lock the connector with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    12. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-148-A00 Install the Scavenge Tube (123) to the Scavenge Pump (SBE 79-0056)

      SBE 79-0056: Scavenge tubes re-routed and repositioned on the scavenge oil pump

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate the OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE(79-22-49,02-516) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the flange of the tube (123).

    3. Install the tube (123) below the angle gearbox support and between the scavenge oil pump and the tube (124).

    4. Attach the tube to the scavenge oil pump with the three bolts. Torque the bolts to 40 lbfin (4.5 Nm).

    5. Assemble the clip at position 1192. Torque the bolt to 40 lbfin (4.5 Nm).

    6. Assemble the clip at position 0286. Torque the bolt to 40 lbfin (4.5 Nm).

    7. Connect the tube (123) to the tube (124). Torque the connector to 420 lbfin (47 Nm). Use IAE 1R18001 Wrench 1 off.

    8. Lock the connector with CoMat 02-126 LOCKWIRE.

    13. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-111 Install the Scavenge Tube (107) and (108) to the Scavenge Pump

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Lubricate OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE (79-22-49, 07-516) sealing ring 1 off and OIL-SCAVENGE OIL TUBES-ENGINE (79-22-49, 07-096) sealing ring 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the flanges of the tubes (107) and (108).

    3. Install the tubes between the flanges of the scavenge oil pump and the LP compressor/intermediate case.

    4. Install the six bolts which connect the tube flanges. Torque the bolts to 100 lbfin (11.3 Nm).

    14. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-112 Install the Oil Feed Tube (179)

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 03-130) packing 1 off and Gearbox Scavenge Oil Tubes (79-22-48, 03-160) packing 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on the tube flanges.

    3. Install the tube between the scavenge oil pump and the scavenge filter. Move the scavenge filter until the installation of the tube is possible.

    4. Torque the bolts which connect the scavenge filter and the tube (180) to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    5. Install the six washers and bolts which attach the flanges of the tube (179). Torque the bolts to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    15. SUBTASK 72-00-60-450-113 Install the Crank Cover

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. Lubricate the new ENGINE-MAIN GEARBOX CASE AND FITTINGS (72-60-21, 01-280) packing 1 off with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS and install on to the flange of the crank cover.

    3. Lubricate the crank cover seat on the gearbox casing with CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS.

    4. Install the crank cover on the gearbox casing and align with the studs.

    5. Install the two washers and nuts. Torque to 85 to 95 lbfin (9.604 to 10.734 Nm).

    16. SUBTASK 72-60-00-450-114 Fill the Oil Tank and the Engine Oil System

    1. WARNING

      DO NOT GET ENGINE OIL ON YOUR SKIN FOR LONG PERIODS. THE OIL IS POISONOUS AND CAN BE ABSORBED IN TO YOUR BODY.

      Make sure that the drain plugs and all the oil system components are installed.

    2. Lift the handle of the cap and turn to the open position. Remove the cap from the manual filler port of the oil tank.

    3. Fill the oil tank with the new CoMat 10-077 APPROVED ENGINE OILS until the tank is full.

      4. Install the oil tank cap.

      1. Replace OIL-OIL TANK (79-11-41, 01-760) packing 1 off of the cap if cuts or other defects are found.

      2. Make sure that the handle of the cap is in the open position.

      3. Align the lugs of the cap with the slots on the filler neck. Install the cap and turn the handle to the closed position.

      4. Lower the handle to lock the oil tank cap.

    5. Prime the engine oil system. Refer to TASK 71-00-00-700-061-A00 (TESTING-000, CONFIG-001) or TASK 71-00-00-700-061-B00, (TESTING-000, CONFIG-002).
