General

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the LP compressor bleed duct, the booster stage bleed valve and actuating mechanism, the LP compressor stage 2.5 vane and the right and left rod assemblies without separation of the HP system module, the LP turbine module and the external gearbox module from the engine.

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary Fig/item numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

Apply the approved penetrating oil before the removal of threaded parts. Let the parts soak before removal. For the approved penetrating oil and procedures refer to the SPM TASK 70-64-00-640-501.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top position when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No. 1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the No. 1 strut leading edge.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-289 Remove the LP Compressor Booster Stage Assembly

    1. Remove the LP compressor booster stage assembly from the LP Compressor/Intermediate case module. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-006-D00 (DISASSEMBLY-006, CONFIG-004).

    2. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-290 Remove the LP Compressor Bleed Actuators and the LP Compressor Bleed Actuator Mount Brackets

    1. Remove the LP compressor bleed actuators and the LP compressor bleed actuator mount brackets. Refer to TASK 72-00-40-020-002-B00 (REMOVAL-002, CONFIG-002).

    3. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-291 Remove the Right and Left Rod Assemblies

    1. Remove the right and left rod assemblies. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-008-B00 (DISASSEMBLY-008, CONFIG-002).

    4. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-292 Remove the LP Compressor Stage 2.5 Vanes

    1. Refer to Figure and Figure.

    2. Remove the 20 bolts and bushes which attach the stage 2.5 vanes to the booster stage bleed valve and actuating mechanism.

    3. Remove the 18 bolts and washers which attach the stage 2.5 vanes to the fan frame assembly.

      4. Use the three puller bolts (part of IAE 1J12188 Puller bolt 1 off) to release the stage 2.5 vanes from the fan frame assembly.

      1. Install the puller bolts in to the three threads in the stage 2.5 vanes.

      2. Tighten the three puller bolts equally until the stage 2.5 vanes are released from the fan frame assembly.

      3. Remove the puller bolts from the threads in the stage 2.5 vanes.

    5. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING REMOVAL OF THE STAGE 2.5 VANES BECAUSE IT WEIGHS 24.0 LB (10.9 KG).

      Remove the stage 2.5 vanes from the fan frame with two persons not to drop the vanes. Put the stage 2.5 vanes on to a work bench.

    5. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-293 Remove the LP Booster Stage Bleed Valve and Actuating Mechanism

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING REMOVAL OF THE BOOSTER STAGE BLEED VALVE AND ACTUATING MECHANISM BECAUSE IT WEIGHS 23.1 LB (10.5 KG).

      Remove the 20 bolts and bushes which attach the bleed valve and actuating mechanism and the LP compressor bleed duct to the fan frame assembly. Remove the bleed valve and actuating mechanism with two persons not to drop it.

    6. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-294 Remove the LP Compressor Bleed Duct

    1. Refer to Figure.

    2. WARNING

      BE CAREFUL DURING REMOVAL OF THE LP COMPRESSOR BLEED DUCT BECAUSE IT WEIGHS 16.5 LB (7.5 KG).

      Remove the LP compressor bleed duct from the fan frame with two persons not to drop it.

    7. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-295 Remove the Screens, the Seals and the Seal Retainers

    1. Remove the screens, the seals and the seal retainers from the LPC bleed duct. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-008-B00 (DISASSEMBLY-008, CONFIG-002).
