TASK 72-32-00-030-015 LPC/Intermediate Case Module - Remove The Fan Frame And Fitting Parts (Fan Frame Assembly), Disassembly-015

General

Fig/item numbers in parentheses in the procedure agree with those used in the IPC. Only the primary numbers are used. For the service bulletin alpha variants refer to the IPC.

The number for each radial location must be identified in a clockwise direction. These start at the engine top location when you look from the rear of the engine, unless stated differently in the procedure.

The No. 1 strut, which is the top position strut of the fan frame assembly, is identified by the five pressure tubes on the No. 1 strut leading edge.

This TASK gives the procedure to remove the fan frame assembly. The subsequent TASKS give the procedure to disassemble the LP compressor/intermediate case module.

TASK 72-32-00-030-001 Move the LP compressor/intermediate case module from the storage stand to the turnover stand.

TASK 72-32-00-030-002 Remove the front fairings, the No. 1 and No. 6 strut fairing panels, the fan exit pressure boss and the block.

TASK 72-32-00-030-003 Remove the fan outlet inner vane assembly.

TASK 72-32-00-030-004 Remove the fan case liner panels, the panel rubber seals, the fan exit guide vanes and the acoustic linings.

TASK 72-32-00-030-005 Remove the fan case, the oil seal tube, the No. 1, 2, 3 bearing scavenge tube, the hot vent tube, the brush seal and the PTO shaft.

TASK 72-32-00-030-006 Remove the LP compressor stage 1.5, 2 and 2.5 assembly.

TASK 72-32-00-030-007 Remove the LP compressor stage 2.5 vanes and the rear fairing.

TASK 72-32-00-030-008Remove the LP compressor bleed duct, the booster stage bleed valve and actuating mechanism and the right and left rod assemblies.

TASK 72-32-00-030-009 Remove the seal support, the front bearing compartment front air seal assembly, the No.1 bearing compartment air tubes and the No.1 bearing compartment scavenge oil tube.

TASK 72-32-00-030-010 Remove the LP shaft, No. 1 and No. 2 bearing assembly.

TASK 72-32-00-030-011 Remove the No. 1 bearing support assembly.

Procedure

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-141 Turn the Fan Frame Assembly Vertical with the Front End Up

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Make sure that the fan frame assembly is installed horizontally on the turnover stand. Refer to TASK 72-32-00-030-014.

    4. Release the lock pin from the holes in the handle and the support C of the turnover stand.

    5. Turn the handle to set the fan frame assembly vertical with front end up.

    6. NOTE

Make sure that the hole in the support C and any one of the eight holes in the handle are aligned. If necessary, turn the handle to make the two holes aligned.

Install the lock pin in to position to lock the handle of the turnover stand.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-142 Install the Lifting Slings to the Fan Frame Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Put a lifting sling around the roots of No. 3 and No. 4 struts and attach the lifting sling eyes on to the hook on the hoist. Keep the lifting sling loose.

    4. Put a second lifting sling around the roots of No. 8 and No. 9 struts and attach the lifting sling eyes on to the hook on the hoist. Keep the lifting sling loose.

    5. Adjust the hoist to make the lifting slings tighter. Make sure that the lifting slings are correctly installed.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-143 Remove the Fan Frame Assembly from the Turnover Stand

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Remove the four bolts and washers which attach each of the two plates to the supports A and B of the turnover stand.

    4. Remove the plates from the supports A and B.

    5. Slowly lift the fan frame assembly to disengage each square rod end of the brackets A and B from each slot in the supports A and B.

    6. Move the fan frame assembly on to the work bench.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-144 Remove the Two Lifting Slings from the Fan Frame Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Adjust the hoist to loosen the lifting slings.

    4. Release the eyes of each lifting sling from the hook on the hoist and remove the lifting slings from the struts.

    1. SUBTASK 72-32-00-030-145 Remove the Brackets A and B from the Fan Frame Assembly

    2. Refer to Figure.

    3. Attach a hoist to the shackle of the bracket B and make the hoist rope tighter.

    4. Remove the ten bolts and washers which attach the bracket B to the No. 8 and No. 9 struts.
